I recently failed my spanish test on preterite and imperfect tense and was very stressed because I could not grasp when to use which when my teacher taught it. I just viewed your video teaching when to use which as well as this one and have grasped the concept of them both in 10 minutes, what I could not get in 3 hrs from my professor! Thank you so much!

Excellent video! This is my first real look at preterite and imperfect verb conjugations but the way you just tought it I should have no problem with conjugating regular verbs. O and just so you know when you were going over Regular IR verbs in el imperfecto you said Ustedes vivíais by accident, just thought I would let you know. Great video! Thanks! :)

in pervious lessons he explains that el/ella and usted are all one form, at least i think he did. But in saying that, whenyour learning spanish you get to kow this early on so its not necessary to repeat it each time.

@akemikat Think of it less like ongoing and more like something that used to be a trend. The difference is only implied most of the time in english but whenever you use "would" in a sentence talking about the past it's like the same thing. So like, "yesterday I punched a dinosaur in the throat" would be preterito but "Back in my day we used to punch dinosaurs in the throat" would be imperfecto. That's because in sentence one it's more defined and happened once but the second shows a trend.

Outstanding lesson! My only critique would be to not say "just quickly" because it interrupts the flow of thought and creates a kind of tension. I think you would be fine to leave that out and take the time to say everything you think needs to be said! I play this lesson over and over to help memorize.

Awesome thank you so much this was great, I'm really having trouble with this but at least now I know there are two different forms for past tense - all I have to do is memorise them, and then memorise when to use each one. Am I right, or is there some other form of talking in the past? Please, no.

how hard is it to conjugate spanish verbs does that take time to learn fluent spanish

  • @elicat1088
    @elicat1088 11 років тому

Both of them, The only difference is based on the use of the pronun: (spain) vosotros, in south america: ustedes and the conjugation:
    E.g. Verb to talk
SA= Ustedes Hablan - Ellos hablan
Spain= Vosotros Habláis - Ellos hablan
This difference is because the spanish language spoken in spain is more ancient and it still keeps ancient forms (it is also known as "castellano"), meanwhile latin people changed this form and we use the same conjugation in both ustedes and ellos pronouns.

Here I am, two months later, still none the wiser.
Please help me, I do not understand this:
Why is the fact that I used to live in Canada 'ongoing' in the past?
To me, thats very much completed.
And yet we use the imperfect ongoign: Vivía en Canadá
..and not the perfect - completed, as it seems ti should be: viví en Canadá
This does not make sense to me? The one thing I can not grasp is what the HEC is something IN THE PAST - and yet ongoing? Seems entirely contradictory to me.

If I spoke to a woman yesterday and chances are I'll never see her again then I'd use yo hable but if in the past I talked to her and we are in a social circle and I talk with her and someone asks me something and I'd say Yo hablaba because even though it happened in the past it's continuing to happen in the current present.

El tiempo pasado es el tiempo más duro en español. No es pues difícilmente si tienes manos en ayuda. La piedra de Rosetta es mán profesor. Y porqué eres que da el " Vosotros" forma. Es insustancial tener en América.

  • @gori1988

you shouldn't use online automatic translators, they translate everything literally and what you want to say loses all sense. Spanish is my native language and I had a really hard time understanding what you wrote. I had to translate it to english in my mind! lol Anyway, its true, vosotros has no use in America.
