How microplastics affect your health

- 51 Trillion particles of microplastics float in our oceans. Yet there is very little science of how this affects our health. This video shows why we should gain back control over plastic in our lives.

• Plastic Pollution: How...
This video was produced by “Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell”
Historians be like: Oh the victorians in their ignorance used arsenic wallpaper and lead pipes, good thing we're a lot smarter!
Meanwhile us now:
Lets not forget about the mercury amalgam fillings ,lead paint of thise times ,today we have fillings made with composite resin and epoxy everything ,both dangerous as they contain bpa and acryl derivates, the big corps always do this ,a cheap "wonder" product with no warnings or side effects
Also radium in the first half of 20'th century
The degree to which it's insane that we did those things is dwarfed by that of the fact that we're still here anyway, though. Which is hopeful, in an absolutely baffling sort of way....
lets also not forget that we are creating bacterias that are resistent to antibiotic as well as poisoning ourselves with chemicals that exist evrywhere from pesticide, food and water.
TBH, micro plastics aren’t as bad as lead and arsenic, but yeah, it’s a problem
Soooo.....is the UN going to doing anything or are we just making videos?
Unfortunately, the UN is like an old loaded truck going up a steep hill.
Do we NEED to use plastics or is it just a cheap and lazy option that may cost us all dearly?
Tap
Cheap and lazy or intentionally malicious for profit over the people and environment?
Plastics are used in nearly all industries. It would be so hard to get rid of. Think about a fast food restaurant. They use tons of plastic from the bags their food is shipped in to the cups they give customers. There aren't many alternatives to plastic and the problem is they aren't cheaper or the same price either, these companies can't afford to opt for the more expensive option when it isn't as reliable as plastic. Yes it is lazy and I am not advocating for the use of plastic but unfortunately it is very useful and literally everywhere.
Plastics are a necessary evil. Plastic saves lives every day through medical equipment, tubes, tools. & devices. However, we could greatly reduce plastic use to only necessary items, but how would we do that??? Gov't sanctions on plastic? Yeah, that wouldn't go over so well
It has its uses but boomers decided to use them as greedily as possible. Overusing plastic made their lives marginally better in exchange for poisoning the entire world.
I am sorry future generations. I was
Wished we could have done better for you all.p
solution is to do what we did in the 60s with lead ban it from food cleaner products household items most if not all products ect
Ave
W
Atleast ban plastics clothes, thoose are the worst, shedding microplastic fibers everywhere!
Absolutely infeasible. Plastic is too versatile a material to give up completely. Though we can certainly limit disposable plastics and its use in food prep and packaging.
HEY, it's Kurzgesagt!! Thanks for the info!

Even if this information might be revolutionary it doesn't change a thing in our lives. You all be lying to say otherwise. Prove me wrong.
@@sanchezzz69420 If taken seriously, it would inspire action. That in turn would affect future generations that would otherwise suffer more if no action is taken? Even a small effort has a potential to save a small number of people in future.
@sanchezzz did you ever heard about asbest?
Why the government is very slow in depressing plastic production?
Because it is used in nearly all industries and makes a lot of money. Plastic companies probably pay ppl in the government to vote in favor of their companies i.e. Vote against anything that would not be in the plastic producers' favor
There's aren't any good solutions for that yet and banning plastics is just stupid, as plastic is so incredibly useful and is overall great material. Also it's unclear if it's actually toxic or not and it doesn't seem to affect people now. Maybe something will change some years later.
@@MJ-uk6lu I know a solution, switch to using biodegradable plastic such as hemp plastic. And/or recycle all plastic, reduce plastic production/use and don’t dump plastic in the ocean.
@@hmalik5232 You can't recycle everything and recycling by itself can be way more polluting. Only some plastics can be relatively easily recycled in a way that isn't counterproductive. And that's completely ignoring economic sense of all these activities. Some are way too expensive to recycle.
@@MJ-uk6lu So then stop producing and using any plastic that isn’t recyclable and/or don’t use traditional plastic. There are biodegradable plastics such as hemp plastic.
All plastic needs to be recycled or not made.
There should be no single use plastic products.
All new plastic products need to be made from recycled plastic.
Micro plastics are the worst and need to be eliminated.
Sadly companies are profit driven. Companies definitely use at least some amount of recycled plastic in their products. But not all companies have the technology to use recycled plastic in their products. It is also possible for recycled plastic to be more expensive than producing new plastic hence why some companies might not use a lot of recycled plastic. Also companies have very high quality standards and recycled product can create lower quality plastic in the production process that companies may not be able to sell.
the common sense is strong with you Kenz300
Not all single use plastic products are valued the same. Some have more economic and societal value than others. For example, the plastics used to package and preserve easily perishable grocery products like meat and yogurt have more economic than straws and plastic bags.
you can only recycle plastic 4 times before it's unrecyclable. at the same time, we don't have the infrastructure to deal with all the plastic currently in existence on this planet let alone the ones being produced.
@@dinnerboons1504 For yogurt we could use glass, and for meat just store it at a very very low temperature
It messes with hormones, thats definitely something to be worried about people!
why do you use the word PEOPLE at the end? Who else would you be talking to? Aliens? Jellyfish? That is a very annoying affectation - maybe microplastics are interfering with your intellect.
@@irw4350 lmao are you stupid, considering thats what you take away from my comment clearly shows you just want to argue with random people on the internet, and try to act superior, I said people like that because not enough people actually know about or care about the microplastics and how bad they are, and people really need to wake the fuck up and realize we're fucking ourselves over so bad. And although we're fucking ourselves over in alot of ways already with alot of other things this stuff affects our hormones and sexual health and affects reproduction, all things that can cause major problems in our species if we don't fix this soon as possible.
@@ThiccBoyChampa maybe shoehorn a few more "fucks" into your reply
Pls no... I am 14 years old my hormones are already crazy rn pls no plastic
Same😥
I LOVE MICROPLASTICS 🎊♥️♥️
Thanks for spreading information of dangers of plastics introduced to ocean.
If we think only about ourselves the main danger is biomagnification, but it is dangerous to whole ecosystem!
Watch Oceans Of Plastic - Netflix
@@anavowedatheist that's Plastics - not microplastics - a totally different problem (as I said above)
Yup. We're fucked.
Oh boy, and now it's been found in human blood for the first time, yay!
bollocks - more likely in the needle or on the microscope slide
now its been found in brain tisue were fked lmao
yeah nah panic is justified 🤣 yall are just damage controlling
Well that was concerning.
I HATE THE ANTICHRIST! I LOVE MICROPLASTICS!
Microplastics are pieces smaller than 5mm,some of theme are you use in cosmetic or toothpaste but most are result from from floating waste water that is constantly exposed to uv radiation and crumbles into smaller and smaller pieces
this is just a vedio from kurzgesagt you are very lazy just recording a video allredy made no even the full video.!!
This is a cause for serious concern
It can never ever be reversed its too late its literally everywhere and all mixed in with other things like soil therefore food products plant's and farm animals not to mention the air rivers seas oceans
Understandable, you reap what you sow.
As consumers, we reap (death) what others have sowed (Micro-plastics).
Microplastics are smaller pieces of plastics of sizes less than 5mm. They find their way into our food, drink and the air we breath in
This is a terrible video. What was the point in even making it if you just say “we don’t know what it causes”.
Apparently the average American consumes a credit cards worth of micro plastics per week!!
Mmm I’m so full of microplastics 🫃
that's stupid. just stop using plastic as a first action, than clean it
Joe Rogans podcast is where I first heard out this, very alarming I had no idea about how big of a problem this will be in the long run

Are you stalling a health hazard?
The exposure routes of microplastics to aquatic and humans are so numerous, that they increase the levels of health risks and occurrences. A free microplastic environment would specifically reduce health risks and occurrences.
Most certainly, dangerous affair!
Whether the increasing rates of cancer among people is a result of this?
im on a microplastics diet
So no medial issues are known. Thanks.
Welp that's depopulation
No, not "depopulation." It's more genocide on the installment plan.
Hello! Iam a fact youtuber , may I use your video and I will translate it to Malayalam (an language in india ,kerala) please.....
Yummy micro plastic
i am full of microplastics
This vid was mostly really well done. It explained the spread of MPs by photodegration and biomagnification spot on. Im really sad it didnt mention the most sinister aspect of microplastics and a reason that we very well know they are toxic to animal health both human and nonhuman. Microplastics act as chemical sponges that transport large classes of toxic chemical compounds such as PAHs, PCBs, dioxins, and organochlorides like DDT. DDT for example, was banned in many countries in the 70s. Pacific ocean sampling in the mid 2010's showed measurable levels of DDT attached to EVERY microplastic studied. From 12 different sampling locations in the Pacific. Stop using petroleum based plastics!!
Panic IS justified. If it messes with hormones we see a whole hell of a lot of transgender confusion!

@@generichandle7 Are you one of those who needs to eat a whole cow to know that you were eating beef?
NANO PLASTICS. 😂
What a mess....
I have a question about the ability for microplastics to enter the body via skin. I've set-up a cold plunge, where I freeze water in BPA free plastic containers. My concern is that microplastics could present themselves from all the freezing and unfreezing of not only the water within the container, but also the containers themselves. Until recently, I would also put the frozen containers into the plunge itself until thawed a bit. I've tried researching, and haven't found anything conclusive either way. Any thoughts or concerns?
Major routes of exposure to MPs is through inhalation or consumption. The large concern for skin is the plasticizers themselves, such as BPA. I've seen a study that showed cashiers were exposed to higher levels of BPA through touching thermal receipt paper
its time to eat the screen!
did you just copy kurzgesagt?
EDIT THE VIDEO SAID IT WAS MADE BY KURZGESAGT
Laundry pods are microplastics and go right into the waterways. Don't use laundry pods!
The end is near
I don't drink or eat anything that comes in a plastic bottle or box, and i am vegan and fruits and vegetables and grains and seeds do not contain microplastics. So i am fine. If you are so concerned about microplastics, the most obvious and simple thing is to just go vegan.
How many years more could we live?
We need hemp plastic and kevlar. Metal is another good alternative
This had no information. You can't deny that we should panic about plastic.
Però solo globuli bianchi ha detto un medico ricercatore su questo argomento può spazzare via le micro plastiche invisibili
Ok, let's forbid usage of clothes from plastics, it is the main reason for microplastic in nature. But no we must protect these companies😮
kurzgtsz😊
The UN should create more awareness on the health hazards of the use of plastics as there is little or no awareness concerning it.
Should have renamed the video to "Global elite instill fear into the peasants while they hide in their plastic repelling glass domes"
"How microplatics affect our health" 🤓🤓🤓
Have you yet to hear? Microplastics are "in the human body
", "blood," and "messes with our hormone.". More needs to be said?
