This was another special restoration project. This Oak Table was built by a man from Germany in the late 1800s. He used this table for his work as an electrical engineer following the Industrial Revolution in America. In this video, I will share techniques for restoring and refinishing antique and vintage furniture. Thank you for your support. Barry

I loved what you did with it, the stain colour was lovely in my humble opinion and preserving the history the way you did was so lovely and respectful.
The addition of the modern flexispot table may serm awful to some but I could see that it is removable at any time leaving the table intact at the same time when it's on it makes it a functional table as it really should be because by using it you are respecting the original builders intentions. Personally I think he would be very happy with what you have done xx

I love the combination of old and new. It's perfect. This winter, before Christmas, my goal is to cut my old IKEA solid wood dining table in half and raise it up to meet the level of my counter top to create a bar-sitting area. My apartment was always too small for the full sized table and now the family has shrunk enough, it never gets used, except for Christmas dinner and as a catch-all mess the rest of the year. I found an app that allows you to 'hire' tools from people in the neighbourhood. I found a circular saw on the app recently and have run out of excuses to put this job off any longer. Thanks for the inspo, Barry. Keep waxing on. I love the stories.

One of the most comforting things I do while woodworking is realize I am using both of my grandfathers old wood working tools and electric tool and general tools. I wouldn't sell those for any amount of money. When I was 17, we were poor. I built my kid sister a 4 shelf book case she could store her reading material and school books on. I stained it cherry and put a protective coating on it so it would polish and clean easily. I was 17 she was almost 7. So, 47 years later, she still has it and uses it. That was her birthday gift. A couple of weeks later, I gave her a wooden box she could put money, change, a bit of jewelry, etc. Almost like an old cigar box would hold. I drew a small basket with flowers on it with some carbon paper and cut that design out into the top. I dovetailed all four sides after grandpa helped me. We put it together and that got stained a honey yellow. She still has that and uses it told hold old photo's.
There is something about creating something from wood that is so peaceful and calming. Even watching videos like yours takes us back to fond memories when wood was wood and not that pressed board Ikea crap or Sauder.
There is still good money to be made by making crafts from wood. ( I talk a lot). I make a 6 foot Santa Claus and 5 foot Mrs. Claus you can put in front of your home. My cost, I would say is $50 and I sell both for $400 and they are gone fast. I also make a 6 foot Frankenstein, mummy, Dracula and a witch with a cauldron. Those all sell for $150 each but next year, I am raising the price.
The windfield collection has tons of outdoor patterns so make a trace so I can get details. It's just a hobby now but when I can get in the garage to work, I am grateful. I have copd and use oxygen so I am limited but still not only enjoy making but seeing people thrilled to get something I made. Your channel is inspiring for anyone to see what you do and realize they too can restore something for their own home when they might have only paid $20 for it and now it's worth hundreds and will last them a lifetime.

Enjoy the old furniture and their histories. Reminds me of my old drafting table from when I studied Architecture 50 years ago. I didn't have the cash for more than the sliding cabled ruler so I designed one that could adjust the angles with a folding base. My Dad and I built it out of some scrap plywood and 1x4., plus a lockable cabinet to fit under it. I still have them today although more to remember my Dad. My classmates were always checking it out and made some offers for it. It's past time to fix it up and use it again.

I love how you retro fitted the new with the old. It still lets the old shine thru. Thank you for sharing his story. I’m grateful that my in laws were brave enough to leave behind family and friends from England to Australia. So smart to add the lift base! It takes nothing away from the table, imo, & gives you what you need to work. A handful of years ago I bought a mirror for my future bathroom re-do & l learned it came from the seller’s grandfather’s barber shop. I love that mirror even more for knowing its origin story & look forward to the day it will hang in my bathroom ❤ Have a fantastic week Barry!

I think it's gorgeous. I love the darker colour, I think it was a good choice. The grain of the wood on the legs and elsewhere is so pretty. Most of all, I love that you continue to find and share great stories that go with the pieces you find. I have some armchairs that were my grandmother's (born 1898) and then my mother's, (born 1923). I feel about their textiles the way you feel about wood. They have gone through two changes, and now face their third. Each fabric reflects the taste and style of the previous owners' era, but the shape of the chairs, their arms and legs, remain the same.

What I can say is that this professional table will never lose its function. It can be used for architectural project studies, visual artists' studies, cartographic object analysis and art restorers. If you are going to put it up for sale, I recommend that you place an ad on the notice boards of universities that offer architecture, visual arts or engineering courses. The return will be certain.
