Been going there since 1974. Still going there. Enjoy picking up some deep fried fish and eating it at a public beach on Lake Michigan which is just a two-minute drive away
- If your ever in Chicagoland. It's worth your while to visit this little shop & experiance the taste of food for the sea gods. - My 5 siblings now living in other states beg me to bring their favorite smoked fish from there when I visit. No excuses!
+Collin Dani We have 7 more Chicago episodes on the way. And the video team leaves in a few weeks to shoot the next season. Stay tuned, and thanks for watching!
+romanrecto Yeah like the part where he gives his honest opinion about the half developed duck egg. A very objective and pleasant review about unique food stalls around the country!
a long time ago people used to smoke weed...hate to bring it to you lucas but people still smoke weed till this day unbelievable isn't it! and after they are done blazing they get the munchies and watch your excellent show to know where they can get the best streetfood around!
Memories of home! I grew up on this, man! We used to stop there nearly every week coming home from my aunt's house! But you missed another of the treats there -- the fried shrimp! I don't know what they did, but the flavor was simply a taste of heaven!
+Lucas Peterson Awesome! When we were kids, my dad would get me and my brother a box of those shrimp with that fantastic sauce on 'em and we'd munch on 'em like they were popcorn! Thanks for the memories, chief!
Love this place, remember coming here when I was a kid. You have to try the smoked shrimp, the crack of all food. All the fried fish are excellent also. Thank goodness I still live about 12 miles from this place. Time for some smoked shrimp and a smelt dinner!
This video is cool. Feel like I'm learning a good chunk about Chicago/Midwest culture in this 6 minute video. (I'm a lifelong New Yorker who doesn't travel nearly as much as he wished he did)
You gotta visit sometime!!! Chicago definitely has that big city feel like New York - more than LA or any other city. Tons of different cultures, incredible food, you don't need a car to get around the city etc.
Not sure why, but his 4 year old video just popped up on my recommended video feed (and now I'm hungry). To anyone reading this that intends to visit this place in the future, make sure you get the shrimp too -- it's one of their specialties.
I was born and raised out there in South Chicago I was 1 years old when they was filming The Blues Brothers out there my father's side of the family is from out there I only stayed three minutes from that fish house
Maybe it's because I'm half Asian too and I'm totally biased, but this is by far the best show on Eater. He comes across as genuine, unpretentious and really passionate about what he's doing. The meat show and the one where the guy eats everything on the menu....I just really, really do not understand the appeal of those shows. But whatevs....to each his own.
I'd love Lucas to try Cullen Skink a traditional Scottish dish poaching Haddock in milk. I hated it as a kid, but now I can't get enough of it. Not to mention tablet. A Scottish sweet, my father was from Edinburgh btw. I myself am English.
Man I gotta go here. I used to eat smoked chub all the time as a kid but all the grocery stores in our town (bout an hour's drive from downtown chicago) stopped carrying it for some reason. Haven't seen any in probably thirteen years.
being from KC where bbq means smoking beef pork and large birds I don't understand why we are not smoking fish. :-( two rivers and plenty of lakes (man made) we need to smoke some.
+Joe Priven We hear ya! We like to think of all the episodes, from each city, as one continuous episode cut up into easy to swallow bites. For Chicago we've already broken the mold and started to let episodes play out to six or seven minutes. Thanks for watching!
love that you guys explore food culture on the southside every travel/cooking show never strays farther than the loop!thanks for a genuine look
+Stephanie Navarro A city is the sum of it's parts, and we like to give a small portrait of it in it's entirety. Thanks for watching!
Humble, friendly, willing to try anything. How can you not love this guy?
Other hosts should seriously learn from him. He knows how to appreciate and present food without being a prick and egotistic. I love him :)
My grandparents were from south Chicago and use to take me here as a kid. I haven't been in 15 years. Thank you for bringing back memories
This guy is chilled as fuck.
This host is awesome. He makes it about the food. Others try to much to make it about themselves.
These guys can make you excited about smoked fish. Subbing was totally worth it

Omg I am addicted to videos starring lucas peterson. I clicked on this video without even reading the title. More please

Last year in march there's snow and sweaters, it's now January and there's shorts and sunshine
I wouldn't mind if every food show on TV was hosted by Lucas
Been waiting for this series to return it's my FAVORITE!!! 😍
After watching this last night, I went to get some smoked garlic pepper salmon. So delish! 😍😍Can't Wait to watch the other episodes.

We used to eat a lot of smoked fish when I was a kid. Smoked whitefish and smoked sable are very good and very expensive nowadays.
Lucas got rejected by that Uganda dude. Lol.

Your segment and the meat show are the best ones on Eater! :)
He looks the part of a native Chicagoan immediately.
because he is a native Chicagoan
Wow didn't know that.
They did a segment with his father about growing up in Chicago. I believe it was about Chicago style hot dogs.
Lucas and David. Only reasons I subbed.
4:58 that's the bite. Mouth watering.
I live in Germany and my uncle used to smoke fish like this. It was so tasty. I know what you experienced there :)

Great tribute to to Calumet Fisheries. Owners/management need to give staff to a mask to help from inhaling all that smoke!
hold it down the middle and chop straight down Lucas!!
Man I gotta go here. I used to eat smoked chub all the time as a kid but all the grocery stores in our town (bout an hour's drive from downtown chicago) stopped carrying it for some reason. Haven't seen any in probably thirteen years.

Love your Episodes Lucas! Do you know of any place like this in Toronto?
Fish looks great. Fish head gumbo, though? Never heard of it.
That fish looks delicious.
being from KC where bbq means smoking beef pork and large birds I don't understand why we are not smoking fish. :-( two rivers and plenty of lakes (man made) we need to smoke some.
At first I heard, "Along time ago people used to smoke weed......"
It's like some kind of a Perfume/Victorian Secret Commercial
Clicked like button before video started :)
