It's really awesome listening to how you solved some of the issues that existed with those types of puzzles. And I think leaving some of the mistakes in your videos is a good way to help new programmers realize that they are not the only ones who are making those mistakes, but I can see where some people would get annoyed at that because they just want a tutorial on how to do whatever they're trying to do. I've enjoyed your videos for a long time now, and you have certainly helped me overcome many obstacles in programming. Thanks for all of your great videos!
So we definitely get those ads in Canada and sadly they are not illegal. Huge fan of your channel and I've learned a lot; unfortunately I can't catch the live streams due to work, are you able to upload them after. If not it's alright. Keep up the fantastic work!

Download any free app on mobile, use it long enough to see these particular ads. These type of ads are frequently shown, and it's so frustrating. Because they are nothing like the actual game they're advertising. Which is a shame, I like the puzzles they show in the ad.
I've seen so many of these ads, and then I saw one that was apparently the game these ads were all based off of, which was like, a pull the pin type game where you had to get the balls in a cup. It kinda sucked. lol
When I see those ads, I tend to remember the game if I see it in the future somewhere. I then, remembering the misleading ad, immediately decide I won’t bother checking out the game just because associated with misleading ads. Maybe it works to generate many downloads, but it sure as heck drives people like me away.
Yup it's all part of the natural learning process, in the beginning everything seems complex no matter the speed, but then as you become more experienced things start to make a lot more sense and much easier. Personally I watch most tutorials at 2x speed unless it's something extremely complex like the inner working or Machine Learning.
I agree 3:40. I code since 15 years and since 7 years with unity. I have also a channel I talk in german about technical things (or post in discords tips, screenshots etc). It's not a tutorial. Just to show how things can be solved, difficulties or as insperation to give people outside an idea. All done because I also love to watch other projects and learn from them. Like here.
But its sorta the same thing?? Misleading is quite literally leading the watcher to think that something shown is true (ex. Scam ads) when in reality it isnt... and lying is leading someone to think something false is true.
"Lying" is just being deliberately misleading. If you make a rule that says "don't lie", people can defend themselves by saying "you need to prove it was a deliberate lie, otherwise I did nothing wrong". If you make a rule that says "don't be misleading", they can't pull that nonsense -- it doesn't matter if you did it on purpose or not; stop doing it.
Thank you! I'm just a hobby game developer. Sometimes I think I am way too stupid to understand how game developers achieve all these crazily cool things they do. With being humble you showed me that it's just the same that everyone does. A lot of trial and error, experience and time
no idea who you are or why i'm here but you are a legend for having the sponsor ad be it's own chapter so i know when it comes up, and it's not randomly hidden in a chapter halfway through the video.
@@CodeMonkeyUnity if only 20-30 percent of those who installed the game by these ads and liked the real game mechanics and didn't uninstall the game it's gonna have a good profit for these games companies since usually it's gonna cost them more to acquire users by showing them the actual game mechanics (just my personal opinion)
@@axl2858 Yeah the entire mobile industry has tons of numbers to keep track of with regards to cost of users and lifetime value, it's a completely different world from what I'm used to on Steam
@@CodeMonkeyUnity If you think about it - it's pretty clever. They (big companies like Playrix with their Homescapes/Gardenscapes) already eaten up all the audience they can reach with normal ads, so they experience very big challenge as the traffic becomes very expensive for them (cost per click for casual games). So now with these fake ads they can have tiny CPC and attract new users who didn't think they ever install homescapes/gardenscapes. And their games are catchy so as soon as a careless player installs them thinking of pin-puzzles - she gets lured into the core match3 gameplay and got hooked forever :)
Great intro. The way you deliver your tutorials make any concept looks so simple. But lots of hard work is done behind the scenes. And knowing that you have 20 years of experience gives me a sense of relief. Reminds me that I have a long way to go and i'm never too slow!
Video where you do mistakes is most welcome tho. It's actually fun to watch when you do actual problem solving in real time. And it really helps others who are just getting into programming to see what kind of resources you use to solve particular problem.
From that category of ads, the worst ones are (speaking from memory, but roughly that:) "My boyfriend just dumped me... what do I do" "pet my dog" "fuck my dog"
This was a nice video I haven't seen these ads in a while (maybe because they were outlawed since the release of this video), but I remember seeing them everywhere
In my experience, they have programmed some, don't understand it, but aren't patient enough to understand that there's more than a few days of learning involved in what they wanna do.
Only saw one of those ads, once - they're probably banned down here I'd guess. Wow at "your videos are too fast, and that's a you problem" - these children are going to break their brains the first time they encounter reality.
I think the only thing this is really missing is the collision between the pins themselves! That seems like a part of a lot of those ads and I think it would make for a lot of interesting possible level design/puzzle solving
“Are you tired of mobile game ads being misleading?” -The misleading app about this game They used a TECHNICALITY where you TECHNICALLY get to play those puzzles, but only rarely, and the rest of the time it’s a trash civilization builder game that no one likes.
@@evildustmite25 Yeah, I was going to mention Hero Rescue. They actually make the lava/water interaction happen way faster, by making it so a lava or water particle touching a stone particle, also causes the conversion as a chain reaction.
I've seen sooooooo many of these and I was so excited to try a game like them, but couldn't find a game that actually is like that. So nice to see you make this idea real :D
I enjoy when pros show their work and mistakes. We all make them, and I always pay attention when a master anything makes a mistake. Masters adapt and overcome adversity they encounter far differently than amateurs or journeyman. Maybe I'm different than everyone else, I learn from others mistakes as well as my own.
I've seen those ads occasionally, but I didn't know they were misleading, since I've never clicked on one. My survival instincts don't let me click on ads :P
I also don't click on the ads but I've seen the games in the app stores. The only thing the games and the ads have in common is that bald butler-type guy. If that, even.

I never knew how misleading those ads were because I refuse to download them
So we definitely get those ads in Canada and sadly they are not illegal. Huge fan of your channel and I've learned a lot; unfortunately I can't catch the live streams due to work, are you able to upload them after. If not it's alright. Keep up the fantastic work!
I did store the vods but I don't want to spam the channel with lots of 2hr videos so I made them unlisted.
They're in this playlist ua-cam.com/play/PLzDRvYVwl53t4ocaP2Gl-L-QWwW16TMWU.html
@@CodeMonkeyUnity thanks for this playlist!
Yep, I've seen them too! Great you made it into a game, now you got free pre-release ads ;-)
I have never seen such an ad, concept seems really very interesting to create some great fun to play levels! This concept actually has a lot of potential! And you remade it very well!
Download any free app on mobile, use it long enough to see these particular ads. These type of ads are frequently shown, and it's so frustrating. Because they are nothing like the actual game they're advertising. Which is a shame, I like the puzzles they show in the ad.
@@tiacool7978 Our game has exactly this gameplay. And it's challenging!
If you're interested in such game - we made one for you ;) A while ago. If it'd be allowed here we'd post a link but alas..
I've seen so many of these ads, and then I saw one that was apparently the game these ads were all based off of, which was like, a pull the pin type game where you had to get the balls in a cup. It kinda sucked. lol
Water should actually evaporate when touching lava, so only lava turned into stone
When I see those ads, I tend to remember the game if I see it in the future somewhere.
I then, remembering the misleading ad, immediately decide I won’t bother checking out the game just because associated with misleading ads.
Maybe it works to generate many downloads, but it sure as heck drives people like me away.
I used to think you also went too fast on your videos, but after a long time of watching I am thankful for your time and effort put into your videos.
Yup it's all part of the natural learning process, in the beginning everything seems complex no matter the speed, but then as you become more experienced things start to make a lot more sense and much easier.
Personally I watch most tutorials at 2x speed unless it's something extremely complex like the inner working or Machine Learning.
I can't remember ever actually seeing an ad that matches in-game for mobile.
Same!!
I have actually found a lot of ads that match the game itself
The problem is that the actually very very good mobile games don't have ads and are deep in the "indie" section of google play.
Make the water turn to steam instead of stone! The water boils away and the lava turns to stone. That would look pretty neat
8:30 actually rock floats on Lava. So the first version was physically correct and didn't need fixing.
It would have made sense for him to make the same edit, but in the other direction with the rock falling down through the water.
You would be legendary if you made a level editor for this.
Like here.
"Illegal due to being misleading."
They should be illegal because they LIE, not misleading.
But its sorta the same thing?? Misleading is quite literally leading the watcher to think that something shown is true (ex. Scam ads) when in reality it isnt... and lying is leading someone to think something false is true.
Literally the same thing.
@person person A loophole is that some of them actually have pull the pin things as minigames now.
They are not lies. They are mini games that take a while to get to within the real game.
Thank you! I'm just a hobby game developer. Sometimes I think I am way too stupid to understand how game developers achieve all these crazily cool things they do. With being humble you showed me that it's just the same that everyone does. A lot of trial and error, experience and time
Yup there's no hidden secret! Experience is everything!
no idea who you are or why i'm here but you are a legend for having the sponsor ad be it's own chapter so i know when it comes up, and it's not randomly hidden in a chapter halfway through the video.
"because that's what heroes do"
Well done. By the way i never clicked on these ads. I thought it was real games..
It is a very strange strategy, get people interested in one type of game then show them another, very strange
It is now, we made such game last year.
That's great advice. It really makes a big difference, going into a project after a good night's sleep.

Great intro. The way you deliver your tutorials make any concept looks so simple. But lots of hard work is done behind the scenes. And knowing that you have 20 years of experience gives me a sense of relief. Reminds me that I have a long way to go and i'm never too slow!
I always see these ads, and the zombie puzzle ads.
I love how the game escalates.
1. Get the money
2. Get the stone
3. GAS CHAMBER
And the fact that he even made this alone on his free time makes everything so much better
great video! I love the interactions between the liquids its great ! and awesome to see those ads an actual reality
Yeah those interactions between particles are pretty interesting and easy to do, makes me want to experiment with this system some more.
Video where you do mistakes is most welcome tho. It's actually fun to watch when you do actual problem solving in real time. And it really helps others who are just getting into programming to see what kind of resources you use to solve particular problem.
'wheres my water' : exists
shitty companies: *its free real estate*
yoo i miss that game, sadly it's full of ads now
Now THATS why those ads feel familiar
One of the most annoying fake ads (imo) is:
“Anna, I’m home!”
Need I say more?
From that category of ads, the worst ones are (speaking from memory, but roughly that:) "My boyfriend just dumped me... what do I do" "pet my dog" "fuck my dog"
tomb of the mask makes one of the masks in the ad slower, or faster, so they always hit eachother
Finally, those ad games look actually entertaining but i have never found an actual version.
These fake mobile advertisements are knock offs of “where’s my water?”
I dont remember sliding bars though
@@dannyboy4682 ye but theres also moving liquid switches
My favorite fake add is "Don't fart." Or "Lean in and take a sniff." It's an episode add that I've genuinely want to see that episode.
Imagine releasing this actual games as a ad, showing the real gameplay of it.
This was a nice video
I haven't seen these ads in a while (maybe because they were outlawed since the release of this video), but I remember seeing them everywhere
Imagine thinking you can learn and utilize everything within the length of a video. Those people never touched a 0 or 1 of code.
In my experience, they have programmed some, don't understand it, but aren't patient enough to understand that there's more than a few days of learning involved in what they wanna do.
This is a great idea. I've only seen the add once. Very nice!
I swear i just got a misleading ad watching this video
me too lol
So to answer the question at the start, YES those mobile ads were everywhere a few months ago in different variations
Having never clicked them I only just learned they were for fake games
I'm realizing after seeing some gameplay this kinda reminds me of "Where's My Water?"
Anyways, great videos; you have earned a new subscriber!
Only saw one of those ads, once - they're probably banned down here I'd guess. Wow at "your videos are too fast, and that's a you problem" - these children are going to break their brains the first time they encounter reality.
Not the hero we claimed for but the one we deserved. Awersome work pal :D
Not as bad as that one game which tries to trick you into believing they're associated with the development of the original Age of Empires
So depressing that I actually got one of those ads before this very video...
3:00 TF2 medic
Holy shit this is probably the most original UA-cam idea in years😂. Yes I see these commercials all the time
Finally someone did it, I came from recommended
I think the only thing this is really missing is the collision between the pins themselves! That seems like a part of a lot of those ads and I think it would make for a lot of interesting possible level design/puzzle solving
I hate misleading ads because when installing it the game is not same with that ads that show
“Are you tired of mobile game ads being misleading?”
-The misleading app about this game
They used a TECHNICALITY where you TECHNICALLY get to play those puzzles, but only rarely, and the rest of the time it’s a trash civilization builder game that no one likes.
nice man!
can you make the "single mothers in your area" ads real now?
"Why don't we try to turn those into a proper game"
Pull the Pin: *allow me to introduce myself*
Hero rescue is a good one that's basically the game he tried to make
@@evildustmite25 Yeah, I was going to mention Hero Rescue.
