I found this car and a Merc CLA 180 AMG line. Both used, the Merc has 54K km (2015) the VW 45K (2016). I have a dilemma. Which one would you prefer? Both at ~19K EUR.
Which is cheaper to run?
Any issues to look out for when hunting for a used unit? Thanks

Average consuption?
Is it big difference between 1.4 dsg and 1.8 dsg. They are both 250nm. 1.4 consume less fuel, but what about performance?

There is a difference in sound. The 1.8 does sound really good.. In the real world, 1.4 will fill all your needs. If possible, drive both engines, you will hear/feel the difference :) If you want to save some money, get the 1.4.

its clearly that you like vw a lot.. i am a vw fan to..i have a new golf 7.5 2.0 tdi dsg (and i love it)..but give me a passat and i can find you a 10kg of cheap plastic...i dont really like a passat interior quality (because the car is quite expensive)..superb has less cheap plastic in doors for example (they put lether or alcantara inside), but in passat you have one big layer of plastic in doors which really feels cheap.. superb has better interior quality but passat has better insolation and other things..so needer of them is good choice if you pay for them 40k or more (r line, sportline, L&K versions) ..for golf is ok to have same quality. I gave for mine 25k. but take a passat for 35k or 40k ..hmm i think that audi is still a much better car for same money (less options of corse), but you can really fell in audi what you payed for..passat, golf, arteon, tiguan...they all feel the same inside.. look the arteon, they want 50k for that car which has golf/passat quality more or less...this is one thing that i dont like about VW...prices are premium, but what about cars for that money??? great review btw :D
Dude, take a look at your Golf's rear doors from the indside, all plastic. Golf is a great car, but after the b-pillar everything goes cheap. Passat's materials remain the same in the rear too . But maybe you do live in a very different region, with different Passat as well, coz they are quite different from US spec to EU spec
Thanks for the comment! :) I agree with on some points. For example a 50k Passat BiTDI is way to expensive to be a good buy, but for 30k for a small engine with great equipment - i think it is a good buy. I can't say that i am a WV fanboy - i try to judge cars on how they appeal to me, and for example, the Tiguan does not cut it for me. The Golf, Passat do. You say Arteon is too expensive - i say spec a Audi or BMW even remotely close, and they are 60-70k. For 50k, you get a standard car - in the Arteon you most likely get top of the line version. Also, to get close to 206kw from BMW (430i gc to be same in performace). If you get the 140kw version, you can have the Arteon for around 35k. So yes, the quality in Audi/BMW/Merc is better, but the trio from Germany also costs more. To be honest, i have not driven the Arteon yet - buy hopefull i will soon and then i can give a more detailed opinion. As for the Superb vs Passat - i don't agree with you. Plastics have come a long way and in the Passat, they are really very fine for the money - can it be better - sure, but then it would cost more again.
yes i agree..golf has very cheap rear dors..its all true..but doesnt cost 40k for 2.0 tdi...in golf class all cars have plastics after b pillar...in passat class all cars have same rear doors as front... i am more focused on audi and benz.. a4 and c class cost as much as nice passat (r line or highline with good spec).. for 40k i would pick audi not vw :D US market - they are all trash..its not even a "new" passat for them.
yes i know..everyone say spec it the same..of corse then is a big different..but what you get with passat (full options) only a kit..over all is not a better car..is not more quite..doesnt drive differently etc..my choice would be - audi a5 2.0 tdi 190hp s tronic sport (around 55k) or a4 2.0 tdi s tronic (around 40k) NOT passat biTDI for 55k or arteon for 60k with 280hp petrol engine..i dont know its just not worth it...but i agree with you ! for 30k - passat is the best car for sure...
You are comparing apples to oranges. Compare the same engine and the prices. Passat 140kw 2.0 tdi is around 35k - with some options. Arteon same engine (R-line only available) is around 40-45k. And you simply can't buy a standard Audi :D Spec some nessesary options and you are looking at a 10-15k price gap.

Man the way you hit that shifter, it's like you don't care about the car and want to destroy it. Wouldn't give you a car to be honest.
I am sorry, but there was no force in changing gears at all :D Take a closer look, the movements might be quick, but i did absolutely nothing that would harm the car in any way!
