As a guy who does back into parking spots, he's spot on with the groceries in the trunk part 🤣
Yeah, and if you have a cart of groceries, no bueno.
worth it tho. you’re less likely to back into a pedestrian in a grocery parking lot
I haven't owned anything with a trunk since 1998. Only trucks. That being said, I always back in. I also park out in the middle of nowhere next to a cart return. Less door ding chance and I just pull the cart into the return and load everything into the back seat over the rail. No need to return a cart either.

@@jacobwebb8818 It is safer, also in a self defense situation it's easier to get away. You also have a zero percent chance of backing up over a small child. In Japan, they only back into parking spots. If you look at the death rate for accidents in Japan vs the US it's 2 per 100k residents in Japan and it's over 12 per 100k in the US. I know that they can't drive for shit here in the US but they're definitely doing something right in their country
It’s just because so many people are bad at reverse they naturally have to hate on it
They suck at reversing so they'll assume that someone knowing how to maneuver their car properly must be due to arrogance and being an overall douche
I used to work as a valet and this is the way you’re required to park. There’s less chance of an accident with another vehicle or pedestrian because you’re not backing up in to a traffic lane, instead you’re only reversing in to an empty parking space.
Being required to do is OK. But if you do it when it's not required is when you're being a douche.
@@Pete.across.the.street How so? Unless they're angled parking spaces I find it much easier to back into a spot. And as other people point out, it's safer.
@@Pete.across.the.street car steer from the front tires. You required more space in front of the car to change direction than in the back.
All I'm saying is that it's actually safer and easier to reverse into tight spaces if you know how to do it. There's less chance of a colision when you don't have to swing the front of your car around whenever you enter or exit and you can control the spacing much better.
@@Pete.across.the.street I honestly think you're being a douche when you back out into traffic. You can't see a thing and you block traffic more than someone that backs in because I don't have to worry about hitting moving traffic when I back in. as somebody who not only backs into all my spots, but drives a stick shift in the US, I can confirm. I do think I'm better than everybody in the parking lot
Only because you are though.
The science is simple, which is why losers don't get it. It's all about that inside back tire. Once that clears the adjoining car you can divert your full attention to everything else.
You have the right of way backing in, and you have an immediate exit when launching. What's not to love?
I laugh at people who nose in and then can't find an opening to back out of the spot. You kinda brought that on yourself by not learning the science. It ain't that hard.

Once you drive a truck or a large SUV you realize why they are always backed in. Things are a bitch to pull out in a small parking lot when you are head in. I only back my work truck in as well

Someone I knew used to call it the Japanese parking because they are more efficient for saving time. On this matter, there was (perhaps still is) a stupid supermarket lot in Calgary which explicitly placed signs inside the lot to NOT reverse park.
I just do it because it's easier to push the car if the battery is out.
I usually try to keep my nose out in parking simply because it’s safer to pull out of a spot.
I don’t underestimate peoples stupidity in a parking lot, or my inability to see them.
This video actually made me start unnecessarily back parking into every lot ever.
This boy getting some!

In case anyone wonders why people do this, it's bc you have more visibility when reversing into a spot than when reversing out of a spot. It's safer to reverse in.
Plus your turning point can start earlier when pulling out
This is what you call rationalizing. It can be a benefit of doing so, but it’s usually not the REASON people do it.
It’s also not really true if you have a backup cam. The camera sees around the car sooner than you do.
@@austink641 there are 4 good reason to back in and 1 good reason to head in. It's fact.
@@austink641 even with a backup can you still don't have the visability when pulling out a spot, unless you want to tell me you can see down the street with those. The people next to you have more visability aswell because you can look over the hood as oppose to the trunk of the cars
And maybe it isn't the reason some people do it but this is literally what I'm taught around here why you SHOULD do it in general. Usually it's just safer, I'd say you're rationalising with the backup cam thing tbh and projecting that onto others

@@deamon5959 yes! Very true
The trick is to look behind you before you back out, then you won't hit anything
that said we all lnow the best feeling is being able to pull through when the spot in front is free so you drive forward in to your spot and drive forward to leave it
In states where you don’t need front license plates, half the people park in reverse unless it’s at a grocery store.
It's honestly just more convenient. Easier backing into a spot than out of.
As a truck driver, you’re taught to always back into the spot. You need less room to swing your front end around going forward out of a spot than you do backing out. It’s also infinitely safer to drive out forward because SEMI TRUCKS DONT HAVE BACK WINDOWS. Well, day cabs do, but a trailer could be blocking it.
We used to actually make fun of the drivers who go forward into a spot. Some truckers would mess with those guys hoping they’d regret ever doing it.
At the truck stops, there's always that one guy who pulls into a spot, and the next day it takes him 20 minutes to try and back out when it's busy. 🤣 I've seen it time and time again.
@@charlesshepherd2004 ---- Well I hope you're seeing it from different trucks, or are you following some poor truck driver around the country and watching him leave parking spots? Lolol yes, I'm just messing with you. Good luck to you.
Got it. It makes total sense for a truck to back in, but makes ZERO sense to do it in a sedan. Those pissants take up to 5 minutes to park, holding everyone up so they can play shimmy-the-car back and forth a million times. If you have a car, pull straight in. It's objectively faster and there is no safety benefit.

That’s what I’m sayiiiiiin
That's probably what sparked the idea in the first place.
a few weeks ago on his instagram stories he posted a quick vid of a dodge challenger reversed parked in "head in only" lot. i figure thats what sparked the idea.
I've always backed in to parking spots unless I'm pulling through. It's a lot easier to leave. If you can't reverse into a spot then you shouldn't be behind the wheel
Reverse parking is definitely one of those habits I never thought I'd get into until it became a useful time saver when going to work every morning. It's often easier than normal parking when you're trying to get a spot in crowded parking lots too. Biggest tip: the main rearview mirror is mostly useless and side mirrors will be your friend. Get good enough at using them and you don't even have to turn around in your seat. Forgive me if this sounds elitist, but I've never owned a car that's new enough to have a backup camera and personally don't like using it when I'm driving a car that has one. They're nice for sure, but they don't help you develop the spatial awareness to know when something is next to your car, or how close it really is.
Once you know the simple rules to reverse parking you'll honesyly find it easier. Coming from the Netherlands where you really have to learn how to drive before you get your licence, 35-40% of drivers reverse park and it prevents quite a few accidents
I drive a older extended cab f150 with a ton of blind spots and I live in the city. Needless t say if I parked like a normal person leaving for work every morning would suck.
You know that you get more visibility and maneuverability when reversing out of a spot because you can see everything? Right? But who cares, if you're not bothering anyone, do whatever you want.
Don't be silly, we all know Dutch people don't drive
@@smh1245 You have less visibility when reversing out of a spot. I was once waiting for this car to pull out of their spot and a parked SUV that was on my right almost reversed into me because they didn’t see me. If they had been parked in reverse they would’ve seen me, therefore you get way more visibility when parked in reverse. It is much safer than driving into a parking spot.
Living in Netherlands where i see people drive like they learned it yesterday i am laughing at your comment.
I could never parallel park but when I started backing in to spots it instantly seemed really simple to parallel. It definitely gives me a better spatial awareness while driving and stuff. Nonetheless I definitely do it sometimes because I think I look professional in a sense so I feel very clowned from this video.
SO YOU’RE THE GUY THEY RECORDED!
But it truly is awesome.
It's douchey but unironically still cool keep doing you bro
Im sorry theres other ways to parallel park that dont involve reversing?
@@SSOTADOTEXE gonna be honest not really following your question😂
In all actual reality, it’s actually safer to reverse into your parking spot. I have taken many work related safety training on this 😂
A couple disadvantages to backing in: In a busier parking lot, drivers behind me think I'm driving past and I lose access to the parking spot because they simply front in. Secondly, the swing of the front end blocks oncoming traffic and I need to look both forward and backward to make sure I'm not swinging/backing into an impatient car or person when it's busy (I live in Toronto). Thirdly, I always need access to my hatch for strollers, baby bags, groceries, loading materials etc...I don't need access to my engine bay or need to make a quick getaway. I think reversing out is a non-issue, in one case or another you'll have to reverse on arrival or on exit. Rear view cameras and cross-traffic sensors do a great job in an CUV to detect oncoming vehicles or pedestrians. Having said that, there are definitely situations where backing in benefits more.
it's illegal to steal a parking spot at least here in Europe when someone has already stopped to back into it. Idk about US.
As a FEDEX driver, FEDEX trains us to always do any necessary backing up when we first get to our stop, so that we can pull out of it safer. Also because you may not notice how some of your surroundings changed while you were making the delivery. But this is darn funny! hahahaha. I never used to back in until I started driving professionally. Now I do it all the time.
I’m not a professional driver but I reverse park for safety. I’m able to check for people and other cars at the parking lot.

All jokes aside, when I was taught how to drive, it was by a police officer. He told me one of the best things you can do is back in to a parking space so that in case there's ever an endangering emergency situation, you can just get in, start up, and get the hell out of dodge. The extra time spent backing out and changing direction (especially under heavy stress) is already taken out of the equation. That's why I do it. Sure it may be slightly paranoid but every advantage helps.

On an objective note, cars are more maneuverable in reverse, and you can see your entire vehicle through your side-view mirrors. Major reason why large pickups or trucks do this.

When I reverse I to my parking spot, it's important for you to know, that I am better than you. I don't just reverse. I reverse with the intent that I want you to remember this. How well I did it. Yes. It was perfect because I did it personally. My parking is the best, and it's 'best' you don't forget that.

You forgot cuz you park backwards 😂 says a lot about you
Say your a school student and you drive to school, EVERYONE is leaving at the same time as you, so if you have to reverse out your gonna be waiting a long time before you leave. If you reverse in you can easily get in line to leave the parking lot. Also say you drive a bigger truck, it can be a lot hard to pull into a spot in a bigger truck because you have a lot less turning radius than a small car, so if you reverse in it won’t take as much time. ALSO about holding people up, I COULDNT GIVE A DAMN.

Accurate, I used to back into parking spots when I was young, this was me.
Really it's safer:
You have to back up at some point. Either do it as you pull up to a spot and can see everything, or do it when your view of your surroundings is blocked by a van and a F-250 with trucks and an elderly lady hiding behind it.
Yeah, and I’d rather back up into an 80 foot space as opposed to an 8 foot space.. lol..
It’s only unsafe when you refuse to look, dummy..
@@jacobjones5269 This turned out to be a mini essay, but I don't care. What exactly is so hard to understand about this? When backing out of a spot it's really easy to miss something because you are not only concentrating on not hitting the vehicles on both sides of you, you are also trying to pay attention to people who may be walking and driving on both sides behind you...and you obviously have LESS visibility than you would if you had drove straight out. Pedestrians are frequently idiots walking inches directly behind you with no general awareness of what you or even themselves are doing, and don't seem to notice or care that you are trying to back up. And they often seem to appear out of nowhere. Being able to simply drive out forwards quite simply makes the visibility so much easier. And when you initially choose to back into a space, you already have *MORE* control over the entire process of parking *_and_* leaving, because you just pulled in and saw your surroundings and know what is going on around you better.
The technical skill of backing in is not really that hard with some basic practice. If you think you're gonna back into a car, that's why you have a mental note of how long your vehicle is, and pay attention to how the front of your vehicle lines up with the front of the white markings, and back in slowly. Even if the markings are not visible it's not that hard. Stop short and get out and look! I'm sure most people have mastered other things in life that are much harder than this. I don't think you should be able to get your license if you can't perform a basic level of proficiency in this skill. They expect you to know how to parallel park, right? How is this any harder to learn than that? I find it to be easier.
First choice spots are always where you can drive across two empty spaces and simply park on the side that lets you drive out facing forward. If this is not an option, find less busy areas in the back where you aren't holding anyone up and back into a space. If you're not disabled or too lazy to walk then this shouldn't be a problem. And if there happens to be two vehicles parked on both sides of you when you get back to your car, guess what? You were already thinking ahead and you get to simply drive out. If I'm in a tiny parking lot like a gas station etc. I don't bother backing into these spaces unless no one is around and know I can pull it off easily.
I literally saw this kid do this at my job he took about 10 minutes and we literally couldn’t stop laughing at him
Lol Did he actually talk about how he backed into a spot?
Imagine taking more then one try to back in

@@Bossabot lol good one. I was using youtube in the browser on my phone and it freaked out when i made the comment
The thought that a satirical video is being made about parking in reverse like not doing it is normal is astounding to me
In UK/Europe the parking spaces are so small, reversing is the only way to park if you have a full sized car.
It makes more sense to go in to reverse in the parking spot, than going reverse into traffic and pedestrians
For real backing in is usually much easier than backing out
Backing into a spot, between two lines or between two cars, is never easier than backing out into the lane that is 2-3x as wide as a parking spot. Never.
@@littlejackalo5326 it’s easier to back into parking spaces with larger vehicles like trucks than to pull forward into them. I have a midsize truck and the turning radius is ass. So backing in is much easier.
The groceries one TOOOOO accurate bruh 😭😭😭
The grocery part is facts 😭😭😭😭 I be like “Bruh WHY did I back up?”
I've never felt so called out in one instance by a character that is the complete opposite of me other than the backing up everywhere I go.
Never stop with these random topics lmao
Frigging gold
I feel personally attacked
I will never back into a parking spot.
It sucks for me when I tend to have a lot of groceries I just bought and the trunk is harder to get in.
3 minutes video of Trevor admitting he can’t reverse park.
i was just wondering throughout the video if this was an american thing or if this video is just oddly specific. Glad to see the comments aggreeing that reversing is no biggie
"I'll put you in a hearse if you don't reverse!"
I always backup in parking spots though. Had to do it all the time in the patch so, I'm used to it. Always leave yourself a way out.
the fact that it's an empty rooftop parking lot makes it much more funny =))
🤣🤣🤣 I always back in though!
You make me not even want to do it anymore LOL
As a automobile detailer contracted with a car dealership, we’re pretty much obligated to park ever car reverse. With that, definitely becomes a habit.
I’ve been looking forward to this
I’ve been looking back to this
Hell ya
