- We're back with More Enchated Portals and in this episode we fight the Cow boss and what im calling the Cala Maria of this game and we read some of the reviews of the game

“The power of PrOtO gent will prevail” is funny because it reminds me of the old days of Mike watching PrOtO gent adds and ytps and also the FNF mod
The art style is amazing, but the lack of sound effects and not great game play drags this game down way too much. I think if they adjusted the controls, updated the sound effects, and maybe made boss transitions less jarring it would do so much better. I hope they do some patches to to help fix the game up with the given feedback!
Sound effects changes and ammo changes. Being able to go through platforms and being able to hit all enemies would help. Jumping sound is annoying and getting hit is annoying also add invincibility frames after getting hit.
That and increse boss health and better transition to the cutscnens and the bosses
I personally have been enjoying this game! I think the art style is super cute and the way it changes styles is very cool. I really like the magical aesthetic as well! I think this game would seem much more enjoyable if everybody judged it on its own instead of comparing it directly to Cuphead.
I think the game should have been worked on for longer and released a little later, and that would have improved it a lot!
I had zero fun with the entire game, the controls are atrocious, the sound is annoying, the tutorial never tells you anything, multiple textures are recoloured for new textures and the worst part is the spell system, it never tells you what spell you have and you use it like 3 times in the whole game.

the art styles were them cutting corners. the kick starter failed so they periodically switched to easier to draw art styles for basically no reason in the bosses, its never explained why. its clear they had fun making the game but the budget was very low.

I understand people's frustrations with this game, but remember, there were only two people who made this game. Seeing this finished is pretty impressive with only two people. They don't really have the resources that Cuphead had, but hey, it's still pretty impressive. But I do wish they had more sounds to the game though.
I agree, I think people are being a little too harsh and should give constructive criticism/feedback for the game instead of trying to compare it to cuphead so much. The game itself is great right now but it’s just little tweaks here and there that would improve the game x10. My main thing is the sounds, it just feels like it lacks enough sound effects especially in cutscenes.
The main problem for me is that the game is 20 bucks, which _really_ feels like a lot for a game of this quality. Even if it's only made by 2 people, the gameplay needs to justify the price.

3:40 I totally agree. The one thing that really struck me when watching your gameplay was the fact that no story were really set up as the game is progressing. It feels like you're witnessing a succession of events that have nothing to do with each other, and so it doesn't feel structured at all. I find it kind of disappointing knowing that it's the final form of the game, I believe that with this chara-design/artstyle and overall vibe, this game has the potential to deliver an interesting story but as it currently is, it cannot fulfill these expectations sadly..

The thing about this game is that unlike cuphead the attacks arent coreographed so you cant tell what bs is gonna be thrown at you and when
Plus a lot of difficulty comes from enemy spam because enemies that spawn spawn completely randomly and thus the level design cant be made to compliment smart enemy placement because the enemies werent placed to begin with

I think if they spent some more time on controls and mechanics it would’ve been great. Like that color shot system kinda sucks, like it would’ve been fine if each shot was just a different damage and shot level. Also the transitions between sections just kinda suck, like it’s not clean, and the hearts just feel kinda out of place in levels. If the game had a little more time in the oven it would’ve been really good
Its just 2 people working on the game. This is what to expect over a big team effort with varying input

While I didn't know this game was made by two people it still doesn't help the fact the Cuphead is a very clear comparison. Enchanted Portals was announced 2 years after Cuphead released and was released 1 year after Cuphead's dlc so it was bound to get a lot of comparison. It may have made some people see this as cheap or a cash grab for the Cuphead hype (especially when it seems unfinished or less polished in areas) if the devs took another year or 2 to work on this game I'm sure it would've been better.
It would’ve been a better move to just change the artstyle. It could’ve helped the balance between art and game design and would’ve made the Cuphead comparisons way less easy fodder.

No, it doesn't. Take Kirby for example, do you actually think blocking attacks with your arms deals no damage?
Blocking mechanics are supposed to be for taking less damage to attacks

Also I’ve played games where when you block you take no damage I get that some games you take less damage but this game regardless at least when I played you take so much damage blocking or not that it doesn’t matter if you block or not
They did just release the game, it probably just came out to early for them to add anything, they are probably trying to make more sound effects for the enemy’s and are trying to fix everything that they didn’t fix before launching it.
They should have added that stuff in before they released it. Like seriously, the game is pretty broken right now.
I still like this game and I’m buying it tomorrow. The people said that there’s going to be things added. If you look back at the trailer you’ll see there’s two weapons that we didn’t get and a super-like attack that hasn’t been added. I think they’re adding more.

I saw this one person do a pencil/paper animation of Bobby on Twitter. Now if the cutscenes were animated better, like Cuphead, That'll take a VERY long time to do, the game could've been a bit more decent. Unless they used better software like TVPaint or Toon Boom.

While I am 8 months late, I’ve been rewatching these videos to see exactly where it went wrong.
Enchanted Portals had a good thing going. People were interested, it had a good base, art was great. Let’s start with the good and then move onto the parts that aren’t so good.
-I think the art style was the best part of this game, especially in the bosses. The bosses have so much personality, and you can easily tell what the devs were trying to convey.
-The core idea is good. The different elemental powers are a good idea in theory. The gameplay is diverse, there are a lot of things you can do.
-However, that’s pretty much where the good ends. While there are a lot of things you can can do, the gameplay feels stiff. It feels way too slow for a game like this.
-The switching colors idea is way too complex for new players and really hard to get used to.
-The sound design is questionable. The enemies don’t make sounds really, and all the elements use the same sound. There’s no sound change when using the super or even activating it. It just feels empty. I know they added some sound in the patch but I feel like it’s not super noticeable.
-The main protagonists feel blank. They don’t really have any personality or backstory. It’s kind of hard to understand how they got here and why. Their names are barely even acknowledged.
-The story is not conveyed enough. It’s hard to tell what’s happening e between levels with just one or two still images.
I would increase the speed of the game by a little bit. I think you should be able to act quicker out of a dash and move while blocking. Also, I would make it so that you could kill enemies with any element. I would increase how long it takes to kill them normally, but I would make it so that if you use the correct element, they die quicker. And I mean substantially quicker. That way new players can use what element they feel most comfortable while experienced players can take advantage of the element system. I would make it so that enemies make noises when they move, attack, and die. I think it’d also be beneficial to make it clearer which enemies you can and can’t kill. I’d expand the lore a bit. Also, I would differentiate the sounds between the elements and add sounds to the moves that don’t currently have one. Additionally, maybe you could have a book that’s like a beastiary where you could get more insight on all the characters when you first see them. It would give more depth to both the lore and the game experience. Finally, I would add fully animated and voiced cutscenes to portray the story in a more clear and clean way.
To conclude, this game clearly had a ton of effort put in. The art style and ideas are truly the peak of the game. However, the gameplay can be stiff and the lack of cutscenes and sound design really hurt the effect of the game. The game was rushed out too early and was never accounted for. They took shortcuts, and that’s where I think it went wrong.
I just wanted to remind you that brain game is updating in like two days (sep 10) and i kinda wanted you to play more brain game cuz its like so intresting especially the dancing banana but i really hope you play brain game in future videos.I love your videos ;-;

Pretty sad to see the game in this state, I even wishlisted the game months ago, but I personally think it deserved the bad reviews.
Too overpriced for such a.. below than mid game, kinda sucks :/ ESPECIALLY that it has the same price as Cuphead
On the positive side though, the Art is pretty nice. But yea, it is NOT enough to counter the negative side of things, the gameplay is bad, the game design was poorly executed, the levels and bosses don't feel rewarding AT ALL when beating them, the hitboxes are pure bs, and just.. SO much other flaws.

Also protip in hat in Time you should go both paths dj Grooves and the conducter the story changes a bit different by who you become friends with and make movies with not going spoil it but one is nicer to hat kid.
