  • Many indoor cats get lost when they get out of the house and can't find their way home. But you can help your cat avoid that fate by teaching them how to find their way home if they ever get out without supervision.

You are spot on about the training. We moved to a gated community in Ecuador this past March, and began taking our (formerly indoor) cats outside for 15 minute walks each day on a harness. On two occasions, they've each gotten spooked by something and wriggled out of their harnesses. In both situations, they bolted right for our front door--even though we were a few houses away.
You're also right about the whining to go out. It starts every morning around 11 AM and doesn't end until we take them out. But, its worth it.

It's so great when you know they can find their home.

My cat loves her stroller❤! My neighbors did laugh at first but now several have them and others wish they did.

People laugh when I stroll my dragon and hold the other one, on me in a a proper underarm reptile harness. We put the naughtiest one in the stroller lol but he gets his outdoor lawn time, just as much as the other..we are fair and rescue special needs or real agressive homeless buddies with a specialization in dragons, (bearded and our chinese water just passed away in her sleep just.shy of 14y amazing loving creatures) one of our bearded is naughtier than my old man bearded dragon lol

    Great program on familiarization!
The stroller idea is good but you're right about the limitations. They can't check or leave scents around their property. Certainly good for the meet and greet with neighbours 💖💕

Our cats did not like backpacks. But some did a harness OK for short local jaunts and the stroller seems OK. We think cat enclosures are super idea! Want to try building one ouselves to save $$. 😊 Cheers!

The backpacks always seem too bouncy when you walk. Okay for a trip, but all the time seems hard. Thanks for your comment.

I would love to walk my cat. I tried a harness and I was almost shredded to death. 😂😂😂😂 There was no way he was letting me put it on him. Catio is what I have been able to do.

My cats have a catio & love it. One of them is very smart and needs more stimulation. I bought her a harness, but I'm afraid to use it for reasons that you mention. Great video! 😺

Good ideas. I'm not sure if my cats would take to a harness. Please consider doing a video of what to do if your cat gets out. We were lucky our cat came home on his own after about 24 hours. I left the door open, the same door he escaped from, and he was on the windowsill next to our bed acting like nothing had happened! He was hungry and we later found a bite mark on his tail. You can't imagine the relief I felt!

I live in an apartment, so a catio isnt an option. I tried the harness with both of my cats but it failed epically because there are too many large breed dogs around. My solution is a large wire mesh dog crate 3ft long x 2ft wide 2 ft high -- its not purrfect but its better than nothing. I put a carpet mat on the plastic floor tray, a bedsheet across the top so the cats feel like they are hiding and not exposed to hawks above, plants along one side so they think they are hiding in a garden, and I stay outside with them (never unattended).
Would love to do the window balcony but the window screens arent removable. Regardless, I'm still looking forward to the balcony video. 👋

It sounds like you are doing what you can given your limitations. Good for your cats! I'm sure they appreciate it.
