Because they disobeyed a direct order from God BEFORE they ate the fruit. So basically, I can do whatever I want and say, "Yeah, well, I was just disobeying orders. It is OK to disagree with a religious book. What is wrong is to misrepresent what the book is saying . And atheists say that humans originated from Africa and changed depending on where they settled. Actually, it occurs I believe 31 times, however it is referred to as Sheol, a place separate from God but not necessarily punishment like true Hell. So your statement is technically correct, but you didn't go to Heaven either before Christ (assuming we are following Christian and Judaism metaphysics). At least that's what I remember off the top of my head. I believe Sheol is actually the Hebrew word for underworld or something of the sort. Though Hell by definition is separation from God, punishment just comes along with it I believe.

S'funny. I remember reading the bible at an early age (I learned to read very young & a bible was handed to me). Genesis so bugged me I asked my parents what was up as it didn't make any sense. They couldn't satisfy me with an answer so they turned to a priest from our/their church. Boiled down to "God moves in mysterious ways/it's an allegory/etc" and that it would make sense if I kept reading. I don't think they thought I'd take them up on that; I was so bothered that I kept at it. Took a while to get through, but I can honestly say I was at least not a theist past elementary school. TL;DR: Reading the bible made me an atheist.

Riddle me this: If God created the animals first, and told them to be fruitful and multiply, then one must assume that he created a male and female of every animal. So why did God not do this with Adam? Science doesn't have a conclusive theory on the beginning of the universe. It could be that it always existed. One theory suggests black holes eventually consume the universe, compressing all the matter and energy into one point, releasing it on the other side (multiverse) or with no more matter to consume, it collapses and explodes.. starting another cycle of the single universe. Same matter and energy, existing eternally. And in scientific terms in all happens over large time spans.. not quite like the creation story that lasts a few days and things literally pop into existence.

Not every star becomes a black hole, as that depends on it's mass and the way it dies. Theoretically there is another way of creating black holes, which would be high-speed collision of particles. That's why some protested CERN's large hadron collider, believing it may accidentally create mini black holes that would slowly grow and consume even Earth after some time, but so far they haven't been created, possibly because there is a mass limit for them to exist, and without enough mass they destabilize and evaporate.

So I didn’t realize how contradictory genesis is until I was in Christian college. My professor basically showed us how there were two stories in genesis. I had never realized that before. So what I learned was when it was written, there were several creation stories going around at the time. They were all very similar to the Bible account. The purpose wasn’t to write an exact account of what happened. It was simply to establish that God made the earth, not the other gods from the other religions. That just confirmed my belief that God made the earth through evolution. Of course my science prof was a quack who told us when she was an atheist, she believed the lie of evolution and climate change but know she knows they just promote it to try to stop people believing in God or whatever. She basically told us we weren’t real Christians if we didn’t believe in a literal 6 day creation and the earth is only 6000 years old. We tried to argue points we learned from our other professors and she was just like “they’re not scientists”.
I think the best evidence for evolution is something I read about in the Richard Dawkins book The Greatest Show on Earth. Scientists kept a dozen samples of bacterium from one original colony, and over twenty years they kept the samples separate, freezing a sample of each after so many generations. They examined them and found that two colonies had both undergone 59 base pair mutations in their genomes, and that they had both undergone the exact same 59 mutations. Almost too beautiful for words.

I'm fairly sure the idea of a fiery hell was created by Jesus, and wasn't described before then. In the old testament, when you died, at least you got to escape from the evil of god.
I think what he means is that once you believe in magic, things no longer need to make logical sense. Actually, it occurs I believe 31 times, however it is referred to as Sheol, a place separate from God but not necessarily punishment like true Hell. So your statement is technically correct, but you didn't go to Heaven either before Christ (assuming we are following Christian and Judaism metaphysics). At least that's what I remember off the top of my head. I believe Sheol is actually the Hebrew word for underworld or something of the sort. Though Hell by definition is separation from God, punishment just comes along with it I believe.

S'funny. I remember reading the bible at an early age (I learned to read very young & a bible was handed to me). Genesis so bugged me I asked my parents what was up as it didn't make any sense. They couldn't satisfy me with an answer so they turned to a priest from our/their church. Boiled down to "God moves in mysterious ways/it's an allegory/etc" and that it would make sense if I kept reading. I don't think they thought I'd take them up on that; I was so bothered that I kept at it. Took a while to get through, but I can honestly say I was at least not a theist past elementary school.

The flood was like a second creation. It was a second chance to rid the world of sin, suffering and hatred. How did that work out? God basically got it completely wrong twice.

He also disappears frequently to just let humans do as they please until he decides he wants to play with the humans again. He also knows the apparent "fix" for the sin bug but decides to not try to implement it for thousands of years. But after Jesus fix happens when we supposedly have closer access to God because we have the Holy Spirit in us, no one really hears from him again directly other than through "gut feelings" and likely hallucinations.

Riddle me this: If God created the animals first, and told them to be fruitful and multiply, then one must assume that he created a male and female of every animal.

I would like to point out something that may upset BOTH Atheists and Christians here is that from the research I have done I learned that the original writers and readers of the bible understood that things like Adam and Eve and Noah's Ark and Jonah and the Whale were ancient mythological stories and where meant to be allegorical and were up for debate during the preaching of said stories. In other words Christians themselves didn't start this LITERAL belief (arguably) until the 1930s as a rule (again their were sects that were literal throughout earlier history but were dismissed as a bit odd) Just saying. No one(or few) in my confirmation class believed these silly stories. We were in school at the time and received good marks.

The entire Bible story was very likely a true account of historical events about the colonization, rise and fall of the Egyptian empire, told partially in idioms that are lost in translation, passed on to settlers and later mistranslated into supernatural stories and interpretations. It’s a story of the first recorded interracial unions in a time when the combined Homo Sapiens population of Europe, the Middle East and Africa was around 3 million. It’s also the story of the emergence of Semitic (mixed race) people in Egypt over thousands of years and their eventual recognition as people. They were given a record of their history, a covenant with pharaoh Amenhotep III thanks to his son Akhenaten, and the right to establish a new nation (long story)

Science doesn't have a conclusive theory on the beginning of the universe. It could be that it always existed. One theory suggests black holes eventually consume the universe, compressing all the matter and energy into one point, releasing it on the other side (multiverse) or with no more matter to consume, it collapses and explodes.. starting another cycle of the single universe. Same matter and energy, existing eternally.
And in scientific terms in all happens over large time spans.. not quite like the creation story that lasts a few days and things literally pop into existence.

Black holes are formed when a dying star implodes, creating a dense mass with huge gravitational force. Not every star becomes a black hole, as that depends on it's mass and the way it dies.
Theoretically there is another way of creating black holes, which would be high-speed collision of particles. That's why some protested CERN's large hadron collider, believing it may accidentally create mini black holes that would slowly grow and consume even Earth after some time, but so far they haven't been created, possibly because there is a mass limit for them to exist, and without enough mass they destabilize and evaporate.

If you were hoping I'd say ''god made it'', nope. I'd only ask ''Who made god?'' or ''How can god be assumed to be eternal, yet matter and energy couldn't?''. So I didn’t realize how contradictory genesis is until I was in Christian college. My professor basically showed us how there were two stories in genesis. I had never realized that before. So what I learned was when it was written, there were several creation stories going around at the time. They were all very similar to the Bible account. The purpose wasn’t to write an exact account of what happened. It was simply to establish that God made the earth, not the other gods from the other religions. That just confirmed my belief that God made the earth through evolution. Of course my science prof was a quack who told us when she was an atheist, she believed the lie of evolution and climate change but know she knows they just promote it to try to stop people believing in God or whatever. She basically told us we weren’t real Christians if we didn’t believe in a literal 6 day creation and the earth is only 6000 years old. We tried to argue points we learned from our other professors and she was just like “they’re not scientists”.

I think the best evidence for evolution is something I read about in the Richard Dawkins book The Greatest Show on Earth.
Scientists kept a dozen samples of bacterium from one original colony, and over twenty years they kept the samples separate, freezing a sample of each after so many generations. They examined them and found that two colonies had both undergone 59 base pair mutations in their genomes, and that they had both undergone the exact same 59 mutations.

I study quite a lot of things, which is why I am a firm evolutionist and atheist. I have read books on quantum mechanics and evolutionary biology. I studied science and knowledge with the intent of finding truth and I found it.

I think what he means is that once you believe in magic, things no longer need to make logical sense. The problem is, of course, that they DO make logical sense, so there doesn't seem to be any magic.
But, when you assume God exists, everything can be explained. It is just catastrophically unhelpful.
