Sounds like a much more sinister version of Big Boos Haunt, while still retaining the "Mario ghost house" vibe and being close enough to Mario that it feels realistic but different and off enough to where it perfectly captures the vibe of a 7/29/1995 build, amazing work as always.
"Remember how I said that Chroma Tundra was the creepiest course in the game? I wasn't exactly aware of what awaited me in Course 38: Red Moon Monastery. The name of the level just... made me feel off. I don't know why. It felt like it'd fit in a Mario game, but something about it still felt off. The first star was named "Boos Around The Chapel." With no other expectations, I loaded in. The music... I can at least see what they were going for with Chroma Tundra. They wanted a theme that reflected the frigid temperatures of the environment. You know Big Boo's Haunt? In the finished game, it was the only track with a unique theme. It held an air of mystery to it. It wasn't just a horror track. I didn't get the same feeling from Red Moon Monastery. The track opens sharply, with a strange beat that feels almost out of tune at points. It quickly invokes a sense of dread, especially when the higher notes cut out to the baseline. Remember Deep Drip Depths, how the final layer of that course had its own track? It reminded me a lot of that. It made exploring the course an apprehensive endeavour." "Red Moon Monastery itself was almost exactly as you'd predict. Resting within a small valley was a series of trees and a small hut that Mario spawned in. This hut led to a path that reminded me of that one in Big Boo's Haunt - that forest section. The trees, grass, and even sky had a noticeable red tint to it. Looking up at the sky, you could make out a massive red circle that seemed to follow Mario wherever he went. Following the path however would take you through a short series of trees and boos until you encountered the titular monastery. It was large, imposing, with a painting of a Boo plastered as a stained glass window near the ceiling. Something I noticed about this level in particular is that Mario never falls asleep like he usually does when you leave him idle - I had gotten up to let my dog outside, and when I came back, instead of doing his usual sleeping animation, Mario seemed to be rapidly looking around for... something. I could only assume it was the Creature."
Oh jesus christ, this place. I remember there being some huge as hell red Boo that'd warp your controls or something so it was near impossible to fight. Thank god it only had like 3 stars.. In my copy at least. I remember jumping over the hill and finding this weird area that was just a red plane filled with those damned red Boos that have like 15 HP. I never found out what that was for. Oh yeah, I found this level in some weird distorted version of Princess Peach's Castle I found by shooting into the stained glass with the one cannon. The level replaced Big Boo's Haunt. Weird as hell. I wanna say one sign in the level mentioned a world with endless sands or something as well? I don't remember finding what it was talking about.
Someone once called this place "hell's gate" This is actually good for sleeping Edit: I'm listening to this in the darkest room of the house at 00:00... It feels actually comfortable And I'm having weird thoughts... Like a CupcakKe Remix of this... And many other things at the same time
Nintendo Nintendo Nintendo tsk tsk tsk its not like you could add a huge pentagram with religious artifacts and a "red moon monastery" specifically where buddas or monks go to worship like a church...
the tracks of these ghost mansion always manage to feel like you just did something you were forbidden from doing and accidentally revealed the true hell you were always in i'd be so terrified to find myself in this kind of level, mostly because of it's anomalous nature, because it always feels like you'd run into some terribly creepy monster that would give you a very painful death, and no matter how much you scream, nobody is there to hear your screams.
@@wasteofblood hell bro You should be proud of what you do I couldnt come up with an original song to save my life I just think that when i listen to the "B3313" soundtrack any song in that rom hack fits really well into qhat you already know from sm64 You can make a song fit the level but a song that doesnt fit the game puts the level in the same place, not fitting to the game Dont worry bud, i'll keep listening to the vanilla soundtrack and to some other songs that fit better for these kind of levels

@Slavic 64 Yeah, sure. I'd need a bit to come up with something since fitting HHH into the project is difficult.
Hold on, is this an actual thing? Like, a build someone is making?
@@Mike14264 sadly no but it would be cool
@@Mike14264 Late response but sadly, no. I simply lack the coding and modelling expertise.
@@depsurrel5084 yeah, I had heard so... Still, your description of the level sure made me want it to exist! Good stuff!

i once defeated a few of those red boos, each time one was taken out it'd say
"Ghosts... Can't... DIE!!"
"...But can you...?"
this would really fit in a liminal space video lol
