@@GuitairistDaniel Yeah, see, almost 10 years ago when I made that comment, I had started with morrowind as a kid, and hadn't played any TES games before that, so daggerfall didn't come to mind.
@herttaaa I agree :) But a minor detail (not that it's relevant) but it's not made directly from midi sounds :p The midi file is loaded into a software called GXCC (as fas as i rememer :p) that then makes an 8-bit-ish tune :p
Really, anything 8-bit is done via MIDI. Regardless of how this was done, its still pretty good for an 8-bit simulation, though it doesn't have the traditional 8-bit sound most people are familiar with. Personally, when i want to do an 8-bit cover of something, I whip out the good ol' FamiTracker :P
This... this is amazing. God must exist, how else could something beautiful have been created?! (Yes, I know this comment is ironic in light of the song's lyrics.)
It most certainly isn't mp3 converted to MIDI. If you ever tried to use a converter, there would be so much "noise" and off and strange notes that the program interprets as sounds that it would not be usable at all... Unless there is a new awesome converter that I do not know about. But the ones I know would not even be able to tell the drums apart from the rest.
@herttaaa Because I've worked with midi for several years. There do not exist a decent software, that can convert a standard sound file (mp3, wav etc.) into midi. It's really hard for a computer to detect the tempo, rythm and more than one note at a time. I'm not talking about samplerate here, but just what's possible for today's software :) What I think the creator of this video has done, is getting a guitar pro file, converted it to midi and then uploaded it to GXCC.
@computerfreakDK You're probably right, indeed it sounds just like GP files do, MIDI nonetheless. I was mainly mentioning that converting from 24-/16-bit samples dow to 8-bit samples do not create nothing but a "low quality" sound due to aliasing artifacts, and similarly cutting down the samplerate only causes the frequency band to be limited to half the samplerate. As such, I stand by the claim that this MIDI(via GP) conversion is a disgrace to true 8-bit/8 KHz sound! ;)
@computerfreakDK Why not? Take the frequency domain of the General MIDI instruments and notes, and then match(as closely as possible) the current frequency domain of the sound to those instruments and notes. This is a very simplified approach of the idea. Simply converting from 24/16 bits down to 8 bits will not cause any "noticeable" "8-bit" effects, simply aliasing artifacts here and there. Limiting the samplerate from 44.1 to 11/8 KHz only reduces the frequency band to 5.5 or 4 KHz, it's bad
@herttaaa Lol, you can't convert mp3 to midi. Or you can, but it would be REALLY messed up and not as detailed as this. But i agree. This is not real 8-bit music :P
@aaron5364 i know right? i play that game with this kind of music in the background now, for the WIN! you should try it sometime, its great rushing music

You played the Song of Trollhammaren!
A goat has now taken notice of your actions! It is now making judgments about you.
That was a good 8bit song for a game ^^
I love how so many parts (especially the first ten seconds) sound IDENTICAL to the original
This would be awesome for a 90's PC version of Skyrim
I think computers had better soundchips at the time, but yes I guess that works.
Daggerfall
@@GuitairistDaniel Yeah, see, almost 10 years ago when I made that comment, I had started with morrowind as a kid, and hadn't played any TES games before that, so daggerfall didn't come to mind.
one of the best 8bit remakes i've stumbled upon to date
NESHammaren?
Witty people like you make my internet experience enjoyable.
You're absolutely right, this would be perfect in Donkey Kong Country 2. It fits so well with the audio style of the game.
you just beat the game and ur sitting at a pub and just chilling with few cold ones!
This is exactly what I have been looking for. MY ENTIRE LIFE!
finntroll should have been not only a band but there own game too. lot of there music sounds awesome 8-bit style.
As a person who loves the melody but not the voice, this is perfect.
sounds about exactly the same that my ringtone back in 2005 :D
i knew this before jesse. didn't expect him to use this song. fav'd it a while ago
Change the name from 8-bit to 16-bit.
Anyhow, i loved this! xD
Eluveitie, Death, Slayer, Finntroll...
I love you.
Still as awesome as I remember
I was thinking of something like starting/end-game credits on zelda, or that encounter when you discover some epic /win item like the feather!
I was expecting a clusterfuck of noise. Instead I found epic win.
Thanks, jesse cox, for bringing this epic version to my life!
Holy godfuck, I love whomever put this together.

Lmao! Omg, how did you do this? It's awesome!
Revenge of the Trolls
-Choose Character-
Well, I hope you enjoy it. And I just realised I spelled dialogue wrong, because I forgot to install the spell checker for Firefox.
Ash encountered a wild Troll, Troll used glare, Ash fainted.
TOTAL TROLL WAR: LEVEL 99 - KILL RIVFADER

Very fitting for an old school final fantasy game.
sounds like an awesome ubeat final boss song for an rpg for sure.

Heavy Final Metal Fantasy
Dude okay ringtone time
This works oddly well for minecraft...
i miss games with the music like this ;'-(
Now i'm ready to play Skyrim!
Yup, just think it's a MIDI file played back with a chiptune-style sound font.
still more metal then BOTDF
It's not that to make a song that is more metal than BOTDF since BOTDF is electropop...

I would have told that this is 8-bit, too. But I knew that there was something wrong.. It's like... "too much" for 8-bit, if you can say~
@Belphybear you made my day xD
