Let's Talk About NanoWriMo's Stance on AI

NanoWriMo is where a lot of smaller writers start out, where they build a community with fellow authors, and some start projects that they eventually publish and kickstart their writing path. Yes, it had controversies last year that are a part of why I stopped participating in it, alongside burnout. This stance on AI they've released just adds onto why I won't participate again this year.

While it's good that they addressed it, this would've been better than the initial addition to the original statement on AI. It still doesn't change how the original sounded or how it felt more like they were demonizing the stance against AI. If it was truly about the bullying and harassment of others in the discussion on AI, they could've directly addressed that rather than taking a neutral stance on AI that sounds more in favor of it that anything.

I know there's bound to be some talk as well about me suggesting Grammarly when that technically falls into the category of AI. I see it the same way I see spellcheck in things like Word and Google Docs. It is truly a tool to be used. I'm focusing more on generative AI in regards to the statement Nano had made. A tool to help edit is one thing, using something like ChatGPT to write for you is completely different.
