My good old mic finally died after being held together with cellotape for a few years so for now I am using a logitech webcam to record sound, let me know if the quality is ok, the previous mic wasn't too amazing so I'm sure it's not that much of a change.
Hi Yudhih There has been a major overhaul of the UI you can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/tpQjRjB1wnU/v-deo.html Effectively the Bim documentation tab has moved into the scene properties tab
The Bim documentation is found in the 'n' panel for this version if you press 'n' on your key board whil in the 3d viewport it should show it. Otherwise you might have installed a newer version, The newer versions have done away with the Bim documentation in the n panel and placed it inside of the scene properties tab, you can watch a video on that UI update here: ua-cam.com/video/tpQjRjB1wnU/v-deo.html Otherwise I'd recommend using the same version of blenderbim that was used for this tutorial which is: blenderbim-230417 you can get here: github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/releases And just scroll to the appropriate release If none of that seems to help you can ask questions on the OSArch community forum and others invluding myself can help you troubleshoot until you come right: community.osarch.org/discussion/1447/blenderbim-tutorial-floorplan-update-in-20mins-blenderbim-23-04-17/p1?new=1
I cannot change Orthographic lens's scale 50.0 -> 15.0. When I input other number then automatically reverted to 50.0. So I can't change any number except for 50.0. Do you have any suggests?
Hi tf I think that might have been a bug with that version of BlenderBim, I'd reccomend updating to a newer/ latest version here: github.com/ifcopenshell/ifcopenshell/releases
I had the same issue. In the new UI (ua-cam.com/video/tpQjRjB1wnU/v-deo.html) you no longer set the orthographic scale directly. Instead, you go to "Scene Properties" then "Drawings and Documents" then select the current plan and below it in "Active Drawing" you set the width and height
Thanks a lot for your tutorials! Could you make one where you take an existing IFC, and uses it as a base to develop another discipline on top of it? For example, pick the IFC of an architecture IFC model already done, and do some plumbing, or add the structures on top of the architecture using it as reference.
HeyPescador I can definitely do that, I've got one planned for MEP, I am just not as familiar with it in BIM so it's taking awhile, and the same for structural
hi. first, thanks four this informative and useful videos. When you are placing windows and doors your doing it arbitrarily. I'm not very clear how to add a door or window in a precise location (exact measurement) relative to a wall or another object.
Hi David, yes for the purposes of this video they are being added roughly snapped to the centre of the walls, To be more precise you can add the door and window and then move it to the correct position (what I typically do) Or using the snap tool create a reference geometry and add it to that reference, but this takes longer
Why are my doors not showing in 3D. I have also realized that sometimes the door tool don’t show the width, height and some other properties when I want to add a door. It is my first time using the tool so pardon me if it’s too basic to know. Also when this happens some of the doors don’t cut into the walls.
Hi Owuraku, thanks for asking Let's break those down, "Why are my doors not showing in 3D." I think this might be the answer, When you activate a drawing it will switch to a 2d representation, so you won't see the 3d model, you can change it back by going to object data properties, Ifceometry, Ifc representations and select model representation "sometimes the door tool don’t show the width, height and some other properties when I want to add a door. " I think you are referring to the door modifier here? It needs to be added in the mdifier tab after creating and selecting the door, it isnt added automatically, but it definitely should be in the future "Also when this happens the some of the doors don’t cut into the walls." For this I think make sure you: select the wall before adding the door otherwise the door wont be hosted in the wall and it will not create an opening "It is my first time using the tool so pardon me if it’s too basic to know. How are you able to snap cursor to new location to add new walls? I have ‘Snap’ enabled but unable to snap. I also observed you can see the Blender ‘Cursor’ tool move with the mouse with snaps even before clicking. How do I get that functionality?
Hi Marcus, The demo library has general types, walls, doors, windows, beams and columns, among others. The AU library has Australian furniture, electrical and sanitary ware standard items, the AU steel library has Australian steel sections and the EU Steel Library has European Steel sections

You need to add a new 'type' essentially, so all types like DT01 (Door type 1) will share parameters, so if you make one of them a right swing door all of them will be. If you want a left swing door simply create another door type or duplicate an existing door type in the project, rename it and then modify that into a left swing, I will try to demonstrate that in an upcoming video, but it is quite straightforward. @@IfcArchitect So I finally figured this one out. If you copy and paste in order to duplicate the type via the outlier, the distinct attributes associated to that type are copied over, whereas if you actually duplicate the object in the viewport, the object inherits its own distinct GlobalID (and I assume some other private variables/attributes associated to the object that must have their own distinct attributes). This allows the object to be renamed and be visible as a new type. So lesson learned, do not copy and paste a type via the outlier as it will inherit all attributes of the copied type and not be viewable/placeable as new type instance.
Hi @@DanielDodd-m5w the solid gold way to duplicate a type is use the 'Launch type manager' and duplicate the type there, 1.) select the Bim tool 2.) select the 'tool' tab on the right hand side n-panel 3.) on the right next to the object type 'DT01' is a waffle grid menu, if you hover over it, it will say 'Launch type manager 4.) click it and all the available types in that category will visually display 5.) there is a neat 'duplicate' type button it should do the same thing as you describe but it is a more visual and user friendly, but there is more than one way to skin a cat I hope that helps I'd highly recommend joining the OSArch thread, if you want to know more, screenshots make this worlds easier to understand, and there is a whole community that can help
