For about a year my colony was tiny with basically no growth and no ant activity. Randomly a few months ago they started sending out workers again, and as soon as that happened the colony began booming in population. You just gotta trust that the ants know what they’re doing and know when they’re ready to start growing.
When I was young from Indiana in the 60z these were called Caespitum I have 5 colonies of Caespitum . I usually just put them in dirt right out of the tube after I see a few workers.. Thanks for posting this as these will always be my favorite ant as of 10 yrs ago I live in the tropics and the colonies will be fine just have to space them out so they don't kill each other.
I never thought about pushing the cotton with the purpose of the "door" further back so the queen doesn't feel insecure because of the large space, but then being able to expand it once the colony get's bigger.
I caught a Tetramorium immigrans queen this year and right now has 12-14 workers with a huge brood pile with large larvae and some dark pupae! It's amazing how fast these ants grow in only a few months.
can't wait to see more Tetramorium vids :D my first queen ever cough was one like this, she laid egg's but they never hatched and she died sadly, hopefully i can find another one this year :)
@@antkeeper51 I usually find them the day after they are done flying around. I've never seen pavement ants fly in the daytime though. Every year I get them around my porch lights at night when they are flying around. I finally have workers now.
I love immigrans so much, I lost my 1000+ colony last year, but I've already caught another queen and she has 30 larvae, and I'm boosting her with some Lasius Pupae
I snagged 2 of these girls end of June - one died within days (not mated?) the other is sitting on top of at least 15 larva and another 10 ish eggs - i dont think i will be able to hibernate this nest in the tube , will need to put them in a real home before the end of the year.
My colonies have more workers than those three after 5 weeks of capture than those colonies after a year. Must be genetics? What state/province are you from? I have five colonies, the healthiest has 30 workers and 90 larvae.
How did your colony grow so fast? I got my tetramroium queens and I catched them a bit earlier, I heated them and they only have larvae and brood so far, I caught them on 23/06/2024
Question, i have this same species but the queen has only produced eggs, but like alot theres atleast 23 from what i can see, is this normal, ive had her like a week or two thanks in advance!
Cool! Btw pls don’t release these ants like you mentioned you might do with your extra colonies because they are not native and compete with native ants for resources.
I caught one a few months ago and have about 10 workers now. When did you hibernate them? How did you introduce them to hibernation and what temperature? I don't want to kill them, took me so long to find a pavement ant queen.
I hibernate mine at the end of October. They can go longer than some other species before hibernating. To hibernate them, I remove any heat source from the nest, wait about a week and then put them in my mini fridge. Slowly lowering the temperature over a few days

youre alive!
Him: I like to catch 3-5 ant queens.
Me: Catching 45 Lasius niger queens🗿
Imagine that they polygynous and they will grow super super fast😂

Yes, General Grievous.
Someone got the reference!

Discovered your channel at the perfect time! A nice comeback after a long wait it seems.
I just caught 8 of those pavement ant queens. They had already lost their wings. They seem to have their nuptial flights at night.
They nuptial flight super early in the morning around 3 am, but can be found pretty much anytime.
I found my queen at 10 in the morning

New video from ants anatomy JUST when my school closed? GREAT COINCIDENCE LOL
The man is bacc! :D
Finally a new video
This is pretty cool!

What time of day in North America would they have thier nuptial flights (anywhere works too)

Can i still capture camponotus queens in this time of year? Im in virginia.
My favorite ants
Awesome video do you have to have a top on tapinoma or camponotus ants if I use Vaseline
I have noticed Vaseline to not be super effective for either to be honest with you. Use fluon if possible or baby powder mixture
I caught my queen at July 8 and now it is August 13 and they have already like 100 workers. Is that normal for they’re growth is that is super fast
I have a lot of those queens
Do you have to hibernate them?
You caught them on my birthday
If you let two of the colonys go can you film it?
Great idea

My colony has more workers then his in 4 weeks
@@flants0 Dang
when do you need to start them feeding seeds?
It depends on their progress
thats crazy how mine took 8 weeks to get that size
Mine were slow for some reason
@@antsanatomy1436my first ones died because i had 2 they killed the fertile one
3 Please ! Its big enough that you don't need to wait a long time :D Pls name them the Carrion colony (Carry on)

It takes a while to turn from egg to larvae to pupae. 6 weeks to go from egg all the way to worker
Exactly. They start as eggs and develop over time.
@@mylifeisalie6781no mine took a little over 3 weeks unheatted
colonie 3 had 19 workers
Good to know! Thanks
your voice is so low now :o

Yeah that’s true. Where I live they have cemented themselves in with the native species. No pun intended
actually its winter in 2025 but to be exact 2024
I orefer dd mm yyyy fornat.
Small to big. Like a colony! 😊
