    Excellent video. Subscribed. All of this is more enjoyable than reading the manual!

    Thanks very much. As a Mini lover for many years and the founder of our local club, I am collecting my Mini SE LvL3 in 3 days- 9/9/23. My charger has been installed at home and we are all ready to go. I'm unhappy about its leather seats and steering wheel so have bought seat covers and driving gloves.

    It is clear that you love your Mini Cooper SE, as do I mine. Nicely crafted videos, well done. Keep them coming as I have picked up a couple of useful pointers from them, in this case Radio ready and drive ready, I hadn't realised the differences!

      You're welcome! I have been on a sabbatical from Mini videos, but I have a few more I'm working on now. Slowly getting back into it. Still love my SE 9,500 miles in.

    Haha that explains why the cars behind me on the highway were super far from me on my way back from the dealership! My first EV and I was on low regen. I'm so used to letting my foot off of the pedal and use the car's momentum to move forward that I still do that with the EV. That means my brake lights were constantly on every time I let go the pedal and the guy behind me prolly thought I was crazy lol

      How are you going on here in the UK with the range on your Mini SE?

      @@genaslmoc 90-100 miles but we only use it locally so range isn’t an issue for us. And we have a home charger so that’s the game changer for smaller electric (maybe all) vehicles. Just becomes routine to charge it when down to 50%. 👍

    Could you maybe also do a video about how the Mini SE sounds from the exterior ? So little to watch (or hear, really) about that, while I found that StarTrek-like noise to be inspiring kinda cool.

    Does it set the parking brake for you automatically, when you switch of from Drive Ready or open the driver's door ?

    This is the only Ev that I have heard about that turns off the brake lights when completely stopped on regen braking.

    • @minise-focus
      @minise-focus  2 роки тому +1

      I disagree with the design. It should leave the brake lights on as a safety precaution. But I always put my foot on the brake at stops, anyway.

    • @jamespeterson7100
      @jamespeterson7100 2 роки тому +3

      @@minise-focus Well I have the hold feature on my Model 3 so I don’t put my foot on brake at stop. But I wonder if it would be better to have it on if hit from behind. Not sure if it would lurch forward more with foot off than on. Hopefully I will never find out. 😜

    Thanks for the video! I’m assuming that the Mini has no option for free sailing mode (no regenerative braking). And if it does have sailing option, would the brake lights come on if your foot is off the accelerator while coasting?

    • @minise-focus
      @minise-focus  2 роки тому +5

      Correct - no free sailing mode. This is my first EV, and I do not miss coasting at all. When I drive my ICE vehicles, they feel like loose, bouncy clown cars. The Mini driving feel has spoiled me.

    Thank you for a great video. Do you know if it regenerates if you use the breakpedal?

    • @minise-focus
      @minise-focus  2 роки тому +3

      No - if you hit the brakes you are negating the regenerative effect.

    • @paulaxford6754
      @paulaxford6754 2 роки тому

      This is one area Hyundai/Kia are at the front. But even the original GM EV-1 had this feature.

  • @aatriham
    @aatriham 2 роки тому +2

    I am considering buying my first EV and like Mini quite a bit.
    So, let me see if I understand correctly. When you pull off from the accelerator, the break lights turn on and turn off when you arrive to a complete stop, correct?
    BTW, great videos. Thnx

    • @minise-focus
      @minise-focus  2 роки тому +2

      Hi, Adan. Yes - the regenerative braking system kicks in as you ease off the accelerator, activating the brake lights. Once stopped, the brake lights turn off unless you press the brake pedal.

  • @doughartley6247

    Thank you for explaining the difference between ready and radio ready but how do you turn the car off completely? Thanks

    • @minise-focus
      @minise-focus  Рік тому +1

      If the car is on, just press the on/off button to turn it off. The entertainment system keeps playing until you open the door, so it might seem like the Mini is still on, but just look at the left hand dial and you'll see the current on/off state.

      @@minise-focus Question: If I stop at my driveway with my shift in the "D" (Drive) position, should I first press "P" to engage the parking state, then press the Stop button and get out of my car? Or, when my shift is on "D," do I simply need to press the Stop button without engaging "P"?

    My wife has a Tesla M3 and I enjoyed regen and one pedal driving so much that I bought a Mini SE. I hope to never own an ICE car or pay for a brake job again.

      Brakes are one of the only items you MIGHT have to get serviced, but with the regen system, not nearly as often! Mini scheduled my first service for two years out when I took ownership.

    Is there any in-city safety feature for the SE 2022 like pedestrian detection, automatic breaking, etc...?

    • @minise-focus
      @minise-focus  3 роки тому +2

      Yes. There is a pedestrian detection warning if a pedestrian is approaching or in the path of the car. The car has some level of automatic braking which I have not yet had to test, thankfully. If the system detects a potential collision with a pedestrian or another car, a warning flashes on the dash to apply the brakes. My car is Iconic trim level with everything, so I do not know about availability on lower trim levels.

    Another great video. I'm surprised that the MINI does not keep the brake lights on at a complete stop; You'd think this would be a safety requirement. This makes me wonder if rear-end collisions are more frequent in this car? Perhaps this "feature" is common in all EVs? At any rate, good tip about applying the brakes when stopped.

  • @kalak211

    Why is it a safety issue to you, that the brake lights go off once stopped ?

    • @FrankyFeedler
      @FrankyFeedler 2 роки тому

      In a country where nobody drives stick (e.g. USA), not seeing a brake light means someone is actually driving or gonna drive. Because with an automatic ICE you'd have your foot on the brake to prevent acceleration. It might misinform traffic coming up from behind and cause them to brake too late. Here in the Netherlands, most people drive stick, so a lot of people stand still at traffic lights without brake lights on, so it's less dangerous as people cannot rely on that brake light alone for indication.
