    For those who do not quite make it to the end, I do mention Bimmercode and am aware of its ability to fix some of these nits. I am waiting for my car to be a bit older before messing with operating system settings. I'll get there eventually.

      I was wondering if Bimmercode would work on the SE. I like to turn off the seat belt warnings and to set an alert at 60mph as there are no roads in my area allowing speed above 60. I also cancelled the stop-start. Also on my petrol Cooper S F56, I set the fog lights as extra brake lights which i don't suppose i will do in my new car.

      @@genaslmoc I did play with a few settings and can verify that I was able to successfully modify. After the last dealer software update on my Mini, all changes were lost and I did not get back to making them again.

    Really enjoying your Mini videos, even though I'm late to the party after getting a Mini SE a few weeks ago.
    My annoyances with the car are:
    1. I don't like the throttle/accelerator response in any of the modes apart from Race mode. In the other modes, the accelerator feels unresponsive or not immediate enough for my liking. But I don't use the car in Race mode very often because the steering becomes unnecessarily heavy.
    2. I don't like that the 'iDrive' controller (or 'jog wheel') has to be turned anti-clockwise (counter-clockwise) to go down the menu options. It seems really counter-intuitive. Normally you advance things by going clockwise, IMO.
    Apart from these things (mainly point number 1), I absolutely love the Mini SE!

    Nice Vid. As JefD mentioned, there is an extension bracket you can buy. It takes about 10 to 20mi to fit, and even takes my new iPhone 13 Pro Max... with case! It is tight (sometimes presses the volume and lock button bringing the switch off mode screen on) but as I don't like using it without a case, I can live with that. Bimmercode I've used on all my Mini's (though not in expert mode. The standard mode is easier and safer), so the first thing I did was set my Mini as I wanted it. The annoying sound I changed to Rolls Royce (there's a choice of about 4 or 5 sounds) driver mode now starts in green, mirrors auto fold on lock, l/h mirror doesn't tilt down when reversing (you have the option to set the percentage of tilt too) and door handle lights come on in reverse. I've altered various things with the lights as well, but as you can see, its very easy to use, and always does a back up.

    Good video and completely agree with you. My issue is the black plastic vinyl (sorry, leatherette) seats in the base and signature trims. Too hot to touch. Finally found a seat cover that goes over the extended front. Our old Mini had awesome fabric seats.

    Great points, around 5000mi on mine too and some I agree with and some just don't bother me (like the chimes). My list is 1- No Android Auto, 2- The auto shut off you mention, 3- Not being able to set a default radio volume at startup, 4- No auto rear window wipe when backing up in the rain 5- Inadequate illumination when exiting the car, 6- Not associating driver profile with key fob, 7- No brake hold at stop.
    To my points 2 and 5, I have a 700' long driveway with a mailbox at the head. The road is not lit so when I stop in the evening to get the mail, the car shuts off when I get out and its super dark. Previous cars keeps a set of lights on for a set time to help you see when exiting the car, other than the Mini logo under the door, no real help there.
    Oh and the freezing temp notification.... I live in NH, its freezing here like 6 months of the year, I don't need a reminder (maybe if rain is sensed AND its under 37deg)

    I agree with many of your points, in particular save state for the driving settings. What is the point of having "Driver Profiles" if it's not to save my car to the way I'd like to drive it.
    As for range - this is our 3rd electric vehicle and none of them do a particularly good job of estimating range. On the plus side, I've always been able to get a little further than the range meter and now I just accordingly.
    Lastly, re: wireless charging - completely agree and have switched to a magsafe wireless charger for the USB-C port. It's non-Apple branded because the faster charging was overheating my phone. So a ~7.5 watt wireless charger with a magnet and leaving the phone out in the open gives my phone a much longer charge time before getting too hot.

    Thank you for your comments on the range meter and the measure of the battery percentage per the gage on the right. Brilliant to set the on board computer to battery percentage. My biggest nit by far is the AEB being city speed only - from what I can ascertain it works only between 10-50kmh. My second biggest annoyance is the inability to synch both individual climate control dials.

    • @carlfe4891
      @carlfe4891 2 роки тому +1

      Agreed, the safety/driver convenience stuff is basic by today's standards. AEB at city speed is likely to hide the low performance of the system. Most manufacturers prevent collision, MINI only reduces speed at impact. Beyond that, no BSW, RCA, LCA, LKA. So basically "we'll kill you less" and "rumble rumble get in your lane."

      One nit (and it may be true for all EV‘s) is that my rear seat passengers develop motion sickness more easily. This opinion coming from a friend who rode in the front seat and the backseat.

      Yes - I mention Bimmercode at the end. It's not something I have wanted to try yet. I want my car to be a little "older" before I start messing with the operating system.
      I bought the Mini brand weather mats, but I am not thrilled with them, either, with their fairly low sides that allow grass and dirt to get below. I'll eventually replace them with weather tech, which has a deeper "tray" to catch stuff.

    I have a question regarding Charging the Mini during Off Peak Hours. I’ve set my off peak between 12:30am to 04:30am and my departure time for 11:15am. Does that mean the car will continue to charge up until 11:15am unless i intervene or stop it? How do i set it so it only charges between my off peak tariff time? There doesn't seem to be a way to do this

    • @minise-focus
      @minise-focus Рік тому

      This has been tested by some owners on the Inside EVs forum. I have not tested window charging myself yet, as my power company provides no incentive for off peak. The consensus seems to be as follows:
      If you set your departure time to 29 minutes after your charge window, the SE won't start charging until near the departure time. Example: 21:00-06:31 depart 07:00, charging starts however long before 07:00 to be at 100% by 07:00.
      But if you set your departure time to 30 minutes after your charge window, the SE starts charging immediately at the start of the charge window. Example: 21:00-06:30 depart 07:00, charging starts immediately at 21:00.
      Your 11:15AM departure is well after the 30 minute window, so I would expect your charging to start at 12:30 AM.
      One of the charging threads about it is here: www.insideevsforum.com/community/index.php?threads/preconditioning-whilst-connected-to-the-charging-station.12970/#post-159098

    The EV aspects seem like the bare minimum to me. Segmented battery meter, tiny buried %, exceptionally bad GOM, lack of charging speed, unintuitive climate control while charging/idle, no battery preconditioning. I'm a big 1-pedal fan but the SE's implementation is odd here too. No stop lights as you creep forward once "stopped." Hair trigger brake light's as you gently regen. Pedal position maps roughly 0-10% for regen, 10-20% for coast, 20-100% for accelerate. You are actively hunting for regen, coast, and accelerate all while trying to minimize the flickering brake lights. It gives the sensation of delay, unresponsiveness, or artificial ramping. Complete contrast to everything else which feels ultra responsive.
    At the end of the day it's a great vehicle that just so happens to be electric, not an EV persons EV. MINI DNA and lots of little trickle down BMW details make it a dream to drive. I still love it, but MINI needs to do better as they shift to a dedicated EV platform.
