I'd like to thank you John on multiple fronts - first most importantly my lil sister has colitis and your videos and advice has changed her life. She couldn't find any foods that wouldn't make her sick. Now, she's got energy a couple more pounds - she still struggles to get enough daily calories on the (mostly) fruits ad veggies she eats or juices. So thank you sir! Secondly you've made me a better gardener. last summers haul of cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, etc showed me that organic growing is not only environmentally friendly but yields, flavor, even smell has jumped exponentially. I'm on the east coast and getting some of the more obscure organic supplies is a little tough locally (support your local businesses!!) but i made it work last year. So, again than you John for sharing an amazing breadth of knowledge with the world! Dan.
I know this is an old video John but I can’t wait and hope to see your future spring garden this year!! As gardens change everyday and every year, Looking forward to it! Peace and love!
Hey John thanks for all u do! U change people's lives. U and alot more people have tought me what is possible. This is my first year I have grown from one 2x4 bed last year to 5-4x4, 1-4x6 beds and a 8x14 green house. I live in pahrump. We r moving to ance this year with alot of plans and alot more production, hopefully! I would love for u to come out and see what's growing on some time. If u would like to see what's we have going now plz take a look on FB desert forest farm page. Thanks for all u do. I believe u give hope to the messed up world we live in today!!!
Anyway bought my lumber yesterday, thinking today was going to be pleasant outside, but it is snowing out! Tired of this winter weather already. I was collecting my garden blocks in February! In order to be ready for spring weather for building my garden system.
oh dear I have been watching your videos for years and have been inspired by your passion for organic growing... But somewhere along the way I must have missed that you moved from California!!! LOL
I love watching your videos...I know you come to my are a lot (The Redlands, Florida) I am creating a sensory garden for my autistic daughter...We have begun construction of it it will be 50ft long and 2ft deep .....that way she can reach in without too much of a struggle....I feel like in South Florida, we can grow just about anything all year long....I'm hoping with this garden, we can eliminate purchasing most of our greens / veggies from the market....with the size of this garden, can you recommend the best type of soil...Sending good vibes your way....all the best from SoFLO
What kind of beneficial plants would you recommend for building up soil qulity? For example planting dandelion plants as a builder for soil retention etc.
John love your videos, been watching for years! You are truely inspiring. Question why don't you grow nasturtiums? I love these plants, all edible and flowers all season.
I bought my lumber for my new main raised bed, yesterday. Last year i made an 8x8 hugelkultur style raised bed but didn't really place any stable barrier around it, this year I am building raised bed border around it using raised bed garden blocks with tongue and groove so no screws or nails. Just slide lumber between the blocks and I can make it modular to add on later. This year am cutting out a section turning it into horseshoe shape so i can access from all sides without stepping into the bed itself. Will lose some growing space, but I think it will be better. I then will have a set of 3 4x4 beds at each corner with walking space between main bed and the outer beds and space to roll the wheelbarrow. I also want to make each corner bed into a cold frame bed as I live near Detroit. We will see how it all works out. My thought is if I make the beds hugelkultur style it will allow for the beds to keep moisture from rain water alone, and if I need to do a supplemental watering here and there, thats fine.
Nice garden. You could make green juice for days without stoping. I have never seen so many greens in one garden. You need to move to a bigger property.
Any chance i can stop by and see your garden 1 day if your in town i live in vegas also. Your garden is beautiful my hats off to you sir. But would like to talk garden with you since you know so much.
Since u re-use ur beds u might want to stay away from the soil mixes with perlite and look into using lava stone. Perlite breaks down long term and terms to concrete in your beds at the bottom and will mess your beds up in the long run. And with lava rock for aeration it works better for aeration and helps with bio life and when it breaks down turns to nutrients not concrete. Other than that the garden looks great man.
so we be about the same height u dont look so big on camera tho. love to see u on cam picking the fruit then preparing it in your kitchen to eat for a meal!
"Strawberry Spinach leaves taste better than real spinach". Lies! They taste just like lambsquarters. Acceptable spinach substitute when cooked, downright unappetizing raw. I've been seeking good summer spinach alternatives for 10 seasons now. By far the best substitute is Kang Kong (Ipomoea aquatica) if you want raw leaves. No bitterness, loves hot weather. Crunchy stems. John mentions rooting ones he purchased from an Asian market, but you can get hundreds of seeds for less than $1 shipped on eb*y. John, I may have missed it, but I don't recall you ever growing Tyfon Holland Greens. Massive leaf production, mild flavor, baby leaves good raw, large leaves great cooked. Great for intensive production in small gardens. Edit: cat tax at 38:39.

Whats bolting ? Where does a new grower begin. Love your garden....👍
mike L bolting is when the plant goes to seed. The plant gets bitter when it bolts

Your garden looks great even though you were gone to Costa Rica👏
John what about the fruit trees you had in pots? Did you plant those in the front yet?

How are you able to grow horseradish? It's a northern plant I used to grow up north.
Looking forward to the video

John? What ever happened to your front yard garden ?
John graciously shows his front garden at about minute 20:05
You should grow your own avocados. You love guacamole, so just plant the seeds.
Do you ever get concerned with invasive species? What if a foreign species bolts and produces seed that blows through your screen?
Don't you wish everyone in Vegas didn't have a frustrated dog locked inside their backyard?
Hey, john could you sell me some "Cretan Rock Lettuce" and "Reichardia picroides. common brighteyes" seeds ?
