    Great video. Loved the way you show where on the map you are going then take us there. I'm looking to come up next Summer for a week from Portland. My family owned a couple islands on Namakan Lake but we sold them a few years back. Subscribed to your channel and looking forward to watching more content. Keep it up!

      Thanks for the comment. I heard Namakan has some great fishing. After going to Kabetogama, I put Namakan on the list of lakes to go to next. It is such a beautiful area by those lakes. I'm curious about the islands your family owned. Did you have a cabin on the island? Did the islands have a name?

      @@GoMidwestFishing You will catch tons of smallmouth bass / northern and walleye along the north shoreline trolling with Rapala treble hook floater minnows (silver, gold or blue), or rebels (same colors), working crankbaits along rocky reefs barely showing above water yields nice consistent results for big fish...including walleyes. I'm like you guys....love working bays and reefs and exploring for the active action and constant surprise hits from those 8-12 pound northern and 3-4 pound smallies. Bass Oreno works perfectly for topwater action all day and night but especially well in the last 2 hours of light in those weedy bays and up the Namakan River. That's where your islands are. The very last island at the east end of Namakan was ours and the little island (that's really attached to the mainland) 100 feet south of the big island. No names on the islands but there were two small cabins...one on each. My dad, JK Zawodny homesteaded them in the 50's or 60's around then. We sold both but the last one was sold to a doctor in Minneapolis who I think probably still owns the big one with the house built on the north rock face...looking at the river mouth. Nice walleyes and big fish trolling lures around lady rapids up Namakan...that's as far as where you can take your boat before portaging up to the upper portion then you can portage over Hay rapids and end up by high falls. Great walleye fishing below high falls if you take the time and energy to get there. Two portages...untouched up there. TRUST ME.

    I fish this lake often and found the biggest northerns I've seen were close to points or corners on islands that were adjacent to the big water. If I were to be looking for them I would just hit these and skip the long stretches of shoreline. Not to say they aren't fish there but they seem to like the open water near by.

      There are so many great spots to fish there, you can't go wrong. I use the Sportsman connection guide book to find the best spots to fish. Weedlines, rock piles, and transition zones are always a good place to start. Good luck out there!

    Haha Rande, I guess I had that coming after I blamed you for that tropical storm in my video!😂 But I don't take the blame for that dent in your boat, okay?😬 Thank you very much for the shout out! I wound't necessarily say that being a doctor one-ups being a pilot -- in my line of work I'm only responsible for one or two lives at a time, my friend! This lake was beautiful and I'm glad you had two days to explore, although I'm sure there was even more you wanted to check out. What the heck was the thing you used to film the underwater footage with your GoPro? You have the BEST toys!

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  4 роки тому +1

      I was just going to tell you that I uploaded the video with your shout out, but I guess you already saw it. For the underwater footage I attached my gopro to my aqua-vu camera. The aqua can record too but its such low quality I don't like to use it in my videos. I still need to add a stabilizer to it so the camera doesn't shake so much. I will eventually get a system figured out that will work good. As far as the dent goes.. its a good one, but it doesn't leak, so all is good. That's why I buy my toys off craigslist. I don't feel so bad when I bash them up. Thanks again for watching!

      I love fishing for pike. I'm usually the only one out there targeting them on these walleye lakes. The funny thing was, we still caught walleye while fishing for pike. We did try floating out in the middle with the other boats, but that got boring real quick.

    Awesome video! I’m planning on going up around june 17th. What can I expect? I’m from Nebraska and haven’t ever been in the area. This isn’t going to be too early is it?

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  Рік тому

      That's awesome! Sorry for the late reply, I took a month off. You won't find much of anything but wilderness up there. June 17th is a perfect time to go. If you stay at the campground, it is very rustic but very beautiful. I have not stayed at the resorts up there, but you will have more amenities if you do. There is a small gas station a few miles away that you can get supplies at. Overall, it a place to get away from it all. I loved it. The lake has nice water and good fishing.

    That loon footage was cool! Never specifically searched for loon behavior, but seems to me you witnessed some rare loon action. And for a guy with a thick northwoods accent I was shocked to hear you mispronounce "Kab-eee-tow-gah-muh" ....

    • @GoMidwestFishing
      @GoMidwestFishing  3 роки тому

      I know! As much as I was trying to say it right, it kept slipping out the wrong way. I didn't even notice until I started editing this video. By then it was too late. That loon gave us some excitement. I was actually getting worried that we might hook it. I appreciate the comment Phillip.
