My uncle, Lt. JG John David Gollahon, was a Seawolf, died in a non-combat helicopter accident during which, as he was catching a ride while his was being repaired, had engine trouble, ditched in a river, capsized and was the only one to not escape, drowned. This was crushing to the family, and the tremors of his passing can sometimes be felt even today (as are most every wartime death) in my mom or his only son whom he never met.
God bless these brave warriors.
Thank God for America, and the all-volunteer military who is still ready to go and sacrifice for freedom; albeit it is sickening when our ‘leaders’ involve us into conflicts without clear objectives, accurate intelligence, and loss of sight of how are conditions on the ground.
May We The People remain vigilant against tyranny yet hold accountable those into whom we trust with our freedom and lives.
@Shane Dial Sorry for yalls loss even tho it has been many years.
@@tone210texas thank you, man. I was 3, but the stories from that day are chilling, to hear the devastation they all experienced. Though it’s happened literally billions of times in human history, it’s different when it’s one of your own.
Beautiful tribute and, as your countryman, I honor the loss of your brave uncle.
Sorry for your loss man. Thank God for people like your uncle... God bless you and the family.
@@DontLetTheOldManIn sorry for your loss sir. God Bless you and your entire family.
"I was born a poor black child." That's from an amazingly funny Steve Martin movie ;)
I think he may have been Quoating Richard Pryor either way 2 legendary comedians
I didn’t think anybody would get that, I have heard that quote numerous times from my dad n uncle growing up….
@@dunderwood4444 it was in The Jerk
That made me look twice! 😂
@@no_regerts5176 Yep, definitely The Jerk, and definitely Steve Martin... funny movie, a classic and sad that one liner is no longer instantly recognized and followed with additional one liners.... All I need is this lamp...
I love how jocko provides a platform for these heroes to tell there story, jocko always gives them the respect they deserve.
My father in law was on a boat crew in Vietnam. The only thing he has ever said about his time there was, "thank God for the Seawolves."
God damn these stories are a national treasure
2:26:10 This is the most emotional I have seen Jocko get. Serious respect to these men and all the Seawolves. Thank you Jocko for bringing their stories to life.
Jocko much thanks for helping preserve these oral histories of some of the finest Americans. Please seek out more of these Korean and Vietnam veterans in the future before their stories are lost forever. As always, God Bless our fallen and their surviving brothers.
We live in a rare time. In the past these stories would be relegated to the odd conversation over a beer with close friends or family. In the future, they may be cut out by whatever regime controls that particular website, company, platform.
Learn while you can, because nothing lasts forever.
My husband (now ex after 25 yrs) was an MP on the riverine force PBRS’s (Patrol boat river) ‘66-‘67 Nha Be. When ambushed the Seawolves always came with support fire and saved the crew.
You do a great service to all Vietnam Vets by sharing their stories. Thank you Sir.

Fuck yeah
That's awesome 👍

I flew with the HS-7 Dusty Dogs as a crew chief and rescue swimmer. My first Skipper (CDR "fleet Pete" Peterson) flew in HAL-3 in the NAM. He was an incredible stick, I flew a combat SAR training flight with him once and we landed with tree branches in our tail wheel! Thanks for telling their story Jocko.
Dad was a Seawolf gunship driver in 69 agent orange ended up getting him 30 years later at age 70. Blackjack Bolton was his name.
Ww2 and Korea era nurses. That would be a heavy few hours. God bless the medics
My grandma was a ww2 nurse and later went into the OSS as a Language instructor. She saw combat in the European theater when when her field hospital/med base was attacked, she talked about how she couldn't stand the recoil of the M1 garand 30-06 so she primarily liked using the grease gun or Thompson but they were harder to come by, and her being a nurse she wasn't issued any standard service weapon. She passed away from cancer last year, she loved watching Jockos podcasts! I tried getting her to go on some podcast and jockos before she passed but nothing ever came of it. I rlly wish she could have gotten a chance to tell some of her war stories.
John Plaster would be a great episode. He could tell his own stories and also talk about Bob Howard. He knew Carlos Hathcock too. Maybe Mike Thornton and John Plaster. Maybe Bring him on SOG cast with John Stryker Meyer.
This is my favorite podcast I have listened to - I was in Vietnam in 1971, just a perimeter guard at TSN, USAF SPS. When I was there, and at Ubon RTAB in 1973, I knew about the CIA in Laos and Cambodia but I never heard anything about the Seals or the Seawolf pilots. Really entertaining for me - I am retired now on Jomtien beach Thailand.
"and the 20 minute fuel light is very accurate (immediate laughter)"
loved that part
The things we take for granted, when a child has to WALK 🚶♂️ for water in America, the youth of today have NO idea what actual hardship is, Outstanding episode 👏
Yep probably why we have the problem we have today because life got too easy for Americans.
Kids today are ungrateful little shits
@@redskyatnight123 Ungrateful is a understatement concerning the youth of today, SAD
Them days probably coming back.
My grandma (from the depression) ALWAYS warned me of that.
I believe her now.
@@adamgardener8624 Make no mistake friend, THEM DAYS NEVER LEFT.
One of the best podcasts i've heard. Long live The Sea Wolves
Me: I need to sleep, I have to work tomorrow.
Jocko: There, a 3 hour podcast.

Have an amazing day! 💜
Served as Team Leader US Army Mobile Advisory Team (MAT) 44, Kien An District, Kien Giang Province, Mekong Delta in 1971 along the Can Gao canal just south of Kien An Naval Base on the north edge of the U Minh Forest. Our four man team lived in a triangle berm fort with our 30 some PF soldiers and their families and the Seawolf Det from Rach Gia saved our bacon many times. They were and are our angels! Thank you guys and welcome home! and thank you for telling the story Jocko.
I love this, loved the other podcast on the Seawolves. A man that worked in the Sheriffs Department back home where I grew up was a Seawolf gunner. Stud of a man, Tom Gantt. These men were all legendary badasses.
As always, standby to get some.🤘🤘🤘
I listened to this on my drive back to Kenosha from Northern WI. Absolutely top notch.
I’m from Elmira NY too!! That is so awesome that a real hero came from my town.
My Grandfather was a pilot in the Royal Airforce during WW2 and was shot down twice. His stories were legendary in our family. These gentlemen remind me of him, Thank you 😊
Navy Seawolf pilot Vietnam War history, Great job with that interview, Jocko
My uncle Mike Johnson was a navy sea bee during the Vietnam War and he's got this wild photo of him with a tar sprayer. He told me they did everything they could to keep the tarmac running.
Great bedtime story! Thanks Jocko an Crew!
I'm always excited for a new Jocko podcast. 5:02am, putting in that work 🏋️💪
Respect from Romania!!!
Getting after it .
Listening to Metallica at ear damage level is the only way to enjoy that beautiful music:)
People don’t give helo pilots credit they dropped into the middle of the worst of the worst time and time again knowing 1 bullet can hit 1 part and take it down with no way of escape so they had to make more powerful helos so they could carry there giant balls
People don't give the grunt any recognition (Grunts die too) you are correct, more recognition needs to be made for these true unknown HEROES across the board, from the Pilot to the Nurse, recognition is IMPORTANT, they ALL served
Can’t wait to listen to this, please Brown Water Navy next!!!
Andy Stumpf's dad

Brave & courageous
Weird opening without Echo.
These guys are awesome. I could listen to them all day
My Dad was born in a farm house where one could still see through the walls, in the cotton fields of Alabama at five years-old, lived through the Depression and served in Navy in the South Pacific in WWII (participated in the invasion of Saipan).
So much respect for our veterans. Awesome they're stories are being captured here.
I learned a lot about compassion, thanxs for that.
That was a great interview. Loved every second. Thank you.
Man, these men are the definition of tough! Thank you to these heroes 👍💯
Five fucking stars. This was an awesome podcast. Thanks for doing this.
This has to be one of the best podcasts ever!!
“Ice and snow, and 40 below. NAS Glenview Illinois”. Been there, done that!
My older brother Terry Maples enlisted in the Navy during the Vietnam War. We were relieved that he wasn't drafted by the Marines. My dad was on an LST duringWWII and was in harms way. I remember my dad telling me during a beach landing he was thankful he was not a Marine. When we found out Terry volunteered for the Seawolves we were again worried. He served on helicopter 306. I'm 12 years younger than my brother Terry and I followed every story when he returned after the War. I'm glad they are finally receiving recognition. ❤ I didn't followed in my brother and father's footsteps and enlisted in the Army. I've always been a black sheep.🤣
Its been great to spend these hours with all these fine gentlemen.
I find it incredibly amazing these stories are being preserved hopefully forever these men are god damn war hero’s with amazing stories.
I also found it cool Carl mentioned Gridley California talking about a location of a cemetery. Gridley is 15 minutes north of me and I’ve grown up here my entire life and never realized Gridley had such a grand cemetery, definitely will have to go pay respects to all the warriors out there. Great podcast through and through
Thank you for sharing your inspiring thoughts and stories Sea Wolf’s 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I can't get through a single Jocko episode, without bringing out the hankerchief and wiping tears...
ABSOLUTELY AWESOME MEN! (Including you Jocko) THANK YOU!!
Hey Jocko, thank you for continuing this podcast. The value it brings, and the stories that are shared on here are incredible. Please keep up the good work.
God bless these men. Great podcast Jocko.
The mission with "John" walkin in the fire mission and the high pitch voice skit was gold to me... Nice
Miss GNAS. Used to go every day as a kid to watch the planes and rotary. Still go to Great Lakes for VA
God bless these two true American Heroes!
Bro seeing Jocko get emotional hits DIFFERENT
I retired out of Meridian, MS at the control tower. Still work here at Fleet and Family. The training now is 12-18 months here after primary in Corpus Christi and Pensacola.
Was at the USS Midway museum in San Diego a few years ago and a former member of the Seawolfs was next to the UH-1 Seawolf that was on display and explained what the SQN did in Vietnam.
JOCKO, these real life stories are amazing. Normally when playing a video if its too long kinda avoid it. I am glad that you are taking the time to get these stories told. History brought to life. Thanks again.
Proof that not all of us here in oregon and from oregon are worthless !
Yours is a breathtakingly beautiful place.
Shot through the foot and he's back flying in two weeks. NBA players jam a finger and they are out for how long? These guys are tough. These guys are the real OGs
May we take care standards up and not down cause war breaks us, leaves us damaged and asking for help ain't enough
Leaves us more tired of life than death
I just listened to this podcast and then followed it up with the Johnny Kim podcast. I don't think I heard a single curse word uttered by these men or Johnny Kim. It's nice to learn from men like this without having to hear a bunch of F bombs. I think the stories these men have to tell are made all the more compelling by the fact that they are so articulate. It's nice being able to recommend a podcast to my sons knowing that they will be listening to both warriors and gentlemen.
Thank You for sharing!
God bless you guys.
Loooooove The Nam era podcast! We owe these men so much more
Wow! Jocko started to crack at the end there. Thats cool
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t know if I’ve ever been this locked in.
Once again another great podcast 👏
Hopefully he gets a PJ on here soon
❤❤ Cheers from Croatia!
What a wonderful podcast and nothing but respect and gratitude to theses heroic men. Jocko, it would be great if you could get some of the pilots from the Black Ponies VAL-4, OV-10 Broncos.
56:14 "if a guy gets stupid and shoots back, we erase that guy."
Literally, from the annals of history, forever, erased. Thats some cold blooded shit.
Damn, Jocko getting emotional. You men are amazing! Carl looks and acts like my Uncle, a submariner from the same era. Those dudes can tell some tales. Thank you all.
Love this..
Theses guys are a hoot!
Before the navy base closed down in San Dog, these stories were posted on the back of the head stall doors. I used to read 'em while droppin' a deuce. Not a sacred place for hero stories, but how else you gonna get knuckle-draggers to read?
Awesome podcast
OCTOBER 18th that my B-Day I turned 1 yrs old:)) Thank you for your service .My uncle was 101st Airborne and his units Medic in Vietnam.
Listening to all these podcast one theme comes to mind common goal....if u have a common goal or can focus on achieving one thing ALL come together to make it happen...we need Jocko to create focus....ine goal and pull this country back together.
Is this the first time I've seen Jocko struggle to keep his emotions in check? @ @2:26:00
Awesome
Another great episode! Can anyone advise if jocko discipline go ships to Canada? Looking to try some out for this upcoming gym grind
Hard to follow up the last but this one is another story of absolute heroism
Right
“Did you have to come out of your shell for that?”
Great

Please get seawolves, they’re always metal as fuck and i love it, Gets the patriot in me hyped as fuck lol
it got pretty emotional at 2:26:30
Yeah, I was listening to audio only and at first thought it was an error in the recording. but then it was Jocko needing a moment before he could continue...
That doesn't happen *that* often, must have hit deep.
Jocko is the only man who participated in all of the nation’s major wars since the Revolutionary War in 1775.
Like Lt. Dan who had a family member killed in every war since the Revolution. Ha
Charles- " it's like the spilled milk analogy "
lolmfao.. that's all he ever contributed to any of these podcasts.
Please check out a pilot named Ward Carrol he flew f14s I think he and good deal Dave berke would have lots of great content to discuss on your amazing podcast
Good evening ECHO 😆
