  • First time down Talking Rock Creek for the entire group. This was a trip I had been thinking about for about a year. The beauty of this creek far exceeded expectations!

    Was your camping spot across from the cliff? Did you have to get permission to camp there, and were there not any No Trespassing signs at the camp spot? Was there enough room for a few small tents there? I am thinking of planning a trip, and it has been a couple of dozen years since I paddled that. Things sure have changed since I have last been there.

    • @chadfowler4761
      @chadfowler4761  3 роки тому +1

      John, no we did not camp across from the cliff. The area directly across from the cliff has a community house on it for the Talking Rock Creek Resort from what I understand. There were some people at the bank visiting the community house and we simply asked if we could stop for a brief moment to take a picture and they obliged. All I can tell you is you will need to use your best judgement for camping, keep a low profile, and leave things as good or better than you found them. There are long stretches of remote land. However, everything is private land from what I understand.
      Although it would likely be around a 7 hour day, you could do the whole stretch in a day with good flow. Maybe not preferable, but it is an option.
      Yeah, I understand about 20 years ago there were maybe 1 or 2 houses along this stretch. Still a beautiful paddle though.
      Good luck!

    Did you come across any spots you felt might be a little to much for a child to go down? How long had it been since it rained and was it a big rain? I'm an hour south of here and looking to go.

    • @chadfowler4761
      @chadfowler4761  3 роки тому +1

      There were a couple class 2s that might have been too much for a child. The area where my friend flips with the dog in the video was one of them. It rained about 3/4 of an inch in the area on Friday before and it had just enough water for us to make the Sat/Sunday trip.

    Are there any put in and take out points for day trips

    • @chadfowler4761
      @chadfowler4761  3 роки тому

      Unfortunately no. The trip distance is 15 miles. The distance and the fact that you generally need rain just before making the trip are the reasons you don’t see many people kayaking on this stretch. These factors and the beauty of the river through this section are what lured me to the run.

    Chad,
    I have been watching this video since about when you posted it. I have a place off the rereg and wanted to try this trip back to the cabin on Inflatable Paddle boards.
    Think it’s doable? I kneel or lay flat in rough spots and have had it on the yahoola at the tubing spot and the toccoa for about a 12 mile run.
    In other trips we may have one or two floaters but we we’re all going to try on boards or kayaks this time to try to do it within 8 hours.
    Curious on your thoughts about the boards. They can go super shallow which may help us make it in drier weather but much less protection obviously.
    Thanks!

    • @chadfowler4761
      @chadfowler4761  10 місяців тому +1

      So you’re saying you’ve got a cabin at some point between the Hwy 136 and Carters lake that you can access from the water? If so, how many miles is the cabin from the 136 put in?

      @@nicksknacks1863 unfortunately it’s not one of those trips you can plan out that far in advance. In order to have enough water, we needed about an inch of rain in the area the night before we made this trip. Thankfully I had a group of people that were flexible and able to make the trip at the last minute. The average CFS of our trip was around 200 as you can see at the beginning of the video. We just did have enough water even with the inch of rain the night before. We also did the run in Feb when the ground wasn’t soaking up water as soon as it rained.
      It’s one of those you’ve got to keep an eye on with rain and try to put on around 400-800 cfs so you don’t run out of water. Looks like the last time the creek was even runnable was around Aug 14 when it hit around 1000 cfs.
      You can run it in a day but you’d have to be there early and expect a good 8-9 hour day I’d say depending on exact flow. Things really slow down the last 5 miles as you near the Reregulation reservoir.
      I’m afraid I have no experience with inflatable paddle boards.
      Hope this helps.
