    I considered this hitch but hesitated because I had questions about hitting at up/down and side to side angles. My truck's rear end is up pretty high at the point it has to be in overt to hitch with the trailer. I worried this hitch wouldn't be able to accommodate those potential problems. I also have need for hitching and unhitching at angles demonstrated in your video footage. You did a great job expiating exactly how to GET the hitch to be at the proper angles in order to successfully hitch up. Thank you. You've made my hesitation about the potential purchase of one of these hitches that much less. 👍

    We bought a used 27 ft trailer with dual opposing slides at the rear. We also have a 2020 F150 eco-boost with max tow package. It has plenty of power to pull the trailer at 6043 pounds. However, with any crosswind it was absolutely terrifying because of the sway. At 60 km an hour, I don’t know what that is in miles per hour, we thought our truck and trailer were going to roll. Our last resort was this hitch. It made all the difference in the world with towing even in high winds. It is definitely more tricky to hook up but we are hoping your video will make it easier this year. I really like the tip about having it set up at the campground for easy hook up when the trip is over. You may hear from us again in May😜.

    One tip I’ve read about (but not used personally, yet) is to mark the safety chains (tape or paint) at the point where they just touch the ground when the receiver is at the (normally) correct height for hitching up (or unhitching). It’s taken a bit of practice, but we are now able hook up and unhook easily. I still use a tape measure to get the height of the receiver close and then G.O.A.L. (Get Out And Look).

If you take two minutes to do what you did on unhooking the hook up is so simple.I’m looking forward to purchasing the V2 W-D jacks. Have fun and be safe Mike and Heidi.

    Excellent video. I just bought a trailer with this hitch and the previous owner did not show me this process. We “jammed” the stinger in with no adjustments on the tension bars, which, explains why I was telling my wife the hitch isn’t set up correct because my F350 felt light(er) in the front that when using the Blue OX hitch. Such a great video. I am a huge fan. You have a great voice for this and you provide great info.

    Brent has also pointed out in recent videos that you do not have to fully seat the stinger. The tapered area can be shy by at least 1/2” and the OCLs (Over Center Latches) will pull the assembly together.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  2 роки тому

      Absolutely true... but I'm not sure why during backing you wouldn't allow the vehicle to do it for you. I mean, you're already lined up and you are inserting the majority of the Stinger into the receiver already and If you're half an inch short of the fully seated position you then you need to manually use the overcenter latches to pull either your truck backwards or your trailer forward that half inch that it is short of.

    Great video. Thanks for all the hard work you did! Still on the fence on buying one of these hitches. My only concern is that my driveway slopes fairly severely for the first 10-12 feet before it levels off. The rear of my camper barely clears, I had to flip the axles on my old camper to get it to clear. I also had to cut the bottom off my hitch and it still scrapes a little. Hopefully it looks like this hitch might be a little higher and might solve that problem for me. I also think the better weight distribution will keep the truck read a little higher. I will definitely use the link to purchase if and when I do. Just picked up my new camper and drove back across Nebraska and the winds were a killer. Stay safe out there and thanks again for the great explanation!

    • @Rvdaydream

    The tip about just lifting the trailer ball coupler off of the hitch head was a game changer when I first learned about it. You can put your finger in the space in front of the coupler as there is no pinch hazard there. You literally want to stop raising the coupler (lowering the tongue jack) as soon as you feel the coupler rise. If you keep going, you are quickly trying to lift the ball, which puts load back on the hitch head.

    • @Rvdaydream
      @Rvdaydream  Рік тому

      Once hooked up that can all be manipulated out of the way and as you're raising or lowering it you can push the weight distribution bars out of the way for it to clear. In a very rare tight situation all you have to do is pull the pin and take the foot off of the straight post.

    Love the video and I'm really interested in the 3P hitch. It may have been out for a while but this is the first time I've seen it. The question I have is, how do you know your putting the weight back to the steer axle? The reason I ask is, because I used to drive tractor trailers and I'm medically retired now, but if we needed to move weight to the steer we slid the 5th wheel forward. Keep in mind that the 5th is centered over the drive axles where the figuratively speaking tongue weight is. I'm not understanding how tightening or loosening the weight distribution bars on the trailer which is now behind the vehicle instead of on it, adjust the weight on the steer. Can you explain or do a video of how that actually works? Thanks

      He sort of mentioned it in the video. Imagine that those weight distribution bars are like the handles of a wheelbarrow. When you lift up on the handles, the front of the wheelbarrow points downward. The same thing happens to your truck when you increase the tension on the back of the weight distribution bars.
      The difference is that with the wheelbarrow the pivot point is at the wheel whereas with the weight distribution hitch, the pivot point is at the hitch.

  • @allan6021
    @allan6021 3 роки тому

    If you tow in high wind areas the ProPride (and Hensley) hitches are the best you can get to control/eliminate sway. Given your truck and trailer combo it’s probably total overkill for you. However, I can see one other advantage to those hitches. I have a bad back and switched from a travel trailer to a fifth wheel because I had an Equal-i-zer 4 point WDH that had very heavy sway bars that became difficult for me to carry and manage when hooking up. With the ProPride I can see it would be much easier on my back since there is no need to carry and install the sway bars. Even at a few thousand dollars it would have been less expensive to get that hitch than to buy a new fifth wheel! If we decide to downsize from the fifth wheel, this hitch would make hooking up a travel trailer much less painful (literally!)

      What happens when you add more or remove weight from the truck after uncoupling? Like arriving with a quarter tank of gas(48 gallon tank) but filling up before you rehook..
      So many reasons when you go to hook back up the stinger height could be different than before... Especially if you are not on concrete or asphalt RV pad... In 80 percent of private parks and state parks in Florida you park the RV in sand grass meaning the Tow vehicle is backing through those same ground conditions... Best way to get close is measure RV receiver height at unhook once the stinger easily slides out.. That's why I ran a Level Mate Pro...It also Allowed for finding level parking spots when staying hooked up for quick overnight stays.(Walmart, Truck Stops, Rest Areas)

      Let's put it this way, my wife didn't want anything to do with hooking up the travel trailer when we had a traditional weight distribution snap bar set up. After we got the propride she did half of the hitch process.

      @@Laurant956 I was going to ask the same thing as my 2500 with the auto level will adjust when loading weight into the bed of the truck. The truck moving up or down will complicate the use of this hitch for sure. I assume changing the control setting on the console to Tire Jack Mode like you would use when changing a tire will turn off the auto level function and allow you to make the necessary adjustment to the P3 as demonstrated in the vid.
      Nice work on the VID BTW.

    Your truck does it have to have commercial plates in ohio.If so does that cost more for insurance.Were i live vehicle over i belief over 6000lbs u need commercial plates.Was thinking about going with the f250 for my next truck which i dont really need for my boat but not crazy about those engines on f150s no turbos with a 6 cyl engine for me.The 5.0 has the stop and go technology and cylinder deactivation not crazy about those either.Chevy and rams are out dont trust either one for long term reliability.Tundra i would have went for but they stopped making the v8 for 2022 models.Want to buy new dont want a used truck.

      Tom, I have a 5.0 w/stop and go. Truck has a very accessible deactivation button right on the dash. Just takes a little bit of repetition to get in habit of pressing button after start up. There are also videos on how to permanently bypass it.

      Well, My wife was never willing to help with the traditional style WD bars as it was heavy lifting, greasy, and required lifting the Truck and trailer together with the tongue jack and she was always concerned with "overdoing" or overstressing the jack... WITH the ProPride she did alot of the hitching herself as it was far simpler to do and took less effort, time and it was always cleaner...

      Yes and no. We bought a fifth wheel after this trailer I wasn't very pleased losing all that storage underneath my truck cap and not being able to utilize my bed the majority of the time. Plus some people can't afford to fifth wheel. That's what Travel trailers are by far way more popular..
