Thank you for confirming the motors actually come out. I gave it a good pry, but it would not budge. In case anyone runs in the same problem I did, mine had a set screw into the drive end that prevented just pulling the motor out. Once I unrolled the shade I discovered this. After removing the set screw, the motor practically fell out.

Good job. I actually appreciate videos that include the human side of the experience, mistakes and all. After all, most of us are *not* licensed technicians, but do want to do what we can to take care of our coaches on our own. Unrelated, I don't get why some people will leave a thumbs-down for a good video like this. I'm countering at lease one of them by leaving a thumbs up. Onward.

Other than the bassackwards initial wiring, and the head bopping play that needed to be reviewed, I'd say this was a successful repair! 👍😊😊

Oh, I would definitely wire it backwards first. Except I would have already buttoned everything down assuming I did it right and had to take it all apart again. LOL! Good job man! Fun to fix our own RVs! ~chad

Changing Lanes thanks. I went out of my comfort zone to tackle this and came out pretty good. I had a feeling I was hooking it up backwards....should have listened to the inner voice! If only you could have seen the unedited version...lol

Tnx Phil....exactly what I was looking for as our 2016 Phaeton 40AH has a bad motor on the night shade. Ordered from Tiffin and will update you as to my success (or lack thereof) once we return from a two week NorCal trip.

Great job Phil, reverse polarity (wire connection) is no biggie, saved yourself some labor costs. You have some great electrical tools ( lug crimpers, wire stripers) pick up yourself a V.O.M. "volt ohm meter" for a reasonable price at HD or Lowe's, an invaluable tool for finding or diagnosis of your RV's 110v or 12v electrical system even if your not an electrician.
    Thanks for sharing your video
    Kind regards, Eric dee

Can you recommend a vender or company that sells the motors that operate a white windshield day shade. RV Elite couldn’t help, they said it’s an aftermarket item and I guess they only get original items from Fleetwood. We have a Fleetwood Bounder.
We enjoy your channel and have learned a lot. Thank you!

I did chuckle because I don't turn off any 12v wiring I do. This may not be good, even though you won't get much a shock, because you can mess things up (blow fuses) if the wires cross. My dad was an electrician and I helped him so I am comfortable doing wiring, however I hire out plumbing.

I had the same problem with my Entegra Cornerstone and it was a pain in the _ _ _. And yes I hit my head. I now have a Renegade ikon and it has a curtain you manually pull, no motor to go bad.
Keep the rubber on the road.

I'm going to tackle this myself soon too. What year was your rig when you made this? I am doing it on a 2014. Also, did you have to make a little cut in your shade to unscrew the motor from the housing? Some videos reference that just not sure what years they were working on. Great vid! Found it informative and amusing

We just did ours. It's am MCD shade and the motor was $155 + $45 shipping to Canada! Getting the motor out and back in was a real effort - had to use lube to get the new motor in! Had to saw off nubs and there were other issues. This was an original manufacturer part, not an after-market. (Shakes fist in the air) "Damn you, MCD!"

    • @todayissomeday
      @todayissomeday  5 років тому

Wow! Our motor was only $85. Must be a different type of shade. I agree on the REAL effort.....we were sweating like we were running a marathon!!

I am getting ready to do this, good video, most of My comments will be for the rookie out there. like Mark the wires before you cut them. I have a 2007 Itaska, so finding the parts is the biggest problem. I contacted Winnebago, they where 6 month out. Auto Motion out of Canada makes most of these power shades. many calls to them, trying to keep this short, found a place that had the shade in stock will have it in 4 days. In 2007 the motor and shade comes as one unit, so you have to buy the whole thing. for people with older motorhomes or Rvs there are places out there that have this stuff, so keep looking. also this same place can get me a hydraulic hose in 7 days that everyone else is saying is discontinued. We will see. I know I will have it when I have it in my hand!!! and it fits.

Another thumbs-up from me too! This was a great video. My shades are starting to start-off really slow, whether coming up or down, then they roll at a good pace. So I'm starting to worry about them. This video taught me that as a solo female travelver, I think I'm gonna need the professionals on this one. The shades are high-up behind a big cabinet & will be very difficult for me to wrestle with. I wouldn't have known that without your video though, so thank you.

We have a 2016 Tiffin RED 37PA. Our night shade is acting up. I ordered the replacement motor which looks identical, including the notch thing you removed at 5:30 into the video, to the one you received. The original shade motor is blue like yours as well. I inserted the new motor and removed the notch thing as well but when I tried to attach the motor and shade to the long black metal bracket, it was about 1/4" of an inch too short. Is there something that needs to removed from the end of the old motor and attached to the new motor in order to make up the difference?

Just add context why you still had 12 volt power to your sunshade when you disconnected your 12-volt power most likely just inside the door that's called the salesman switch it only disconnects the house power not the chassis power.
To entirely disconnect you would have to pull the negative terminal off battery from your engine compartment. Pretty much everything up at the dash is powered by the chassis battery everything behind it is powered by the house batteries if it runs off 12 volt such as lighting
I really appreciate this video I haven't had to do a motor swap on Shades in a long time and I couldn't quite remember if it was more complicated then I was making it seem in my head which it isn't.

Wish you had shown how you got that shade assembly back up in place. My new shade motors arrive Tuesday from Tiffin and that is the one thing we are concerned with since it’s in an awkward location to reach, especially if you’re short. Video was very helpful.
