  • This video from The Potomac Bead Company discusses genuine turquoise of various types (Sleeping Beauty, Kingman, Campitos, Elisa), and the stabilization process, by which they are prepared for jewelry-making. Each of these turquoise beads is undyed, and will stay its original/natural color.

How blessed I feel as all of my Turquoise I'm sure is natural as they are over 100years old. I'm not Native American but am from the South West, New Mexico, and all of it has been past from generation to generation.

How can you say that it's natural turn if it's been stabilized?
If it's been stabilized you shouldn't call it natural, let alone high end.

Having seen a few videos about turquoise, it's not generally called natural if it's been stabilized but it still is turquoise.

If it's stabilized it's obviously not high quality turquoise because that's why they stabilize it with a resin is because it's low quality like chalk it will crumble in your hands. high quality natural turquoise does not have to be stabilized

Dose stabilized turquoise have the same spiritual benifts as natural turquoise?

Most turquoise is stabilized, so you would really have to check with people who are more into stone properties than we are.

Luis Estrada How could it have the same affect when its covered in plastic. And yes most turquoise is treated and stabilized in some way, most turquoise is a low quality and will break or even change color like green when worn because it should have been stabilized and the oils from your skin could absorb into the stone and change the color green. Not 9.99% of turquoise left is stabilized, yes it's a low % but it more like 3% of turquoise is still good quality untreated turquoise. It's more expensive to purchase but it's also more rare. When shopping for turquoise if you would like unstabilized/untreated turquoise then ask the dealer if the turquoise has been treated don't ask if it's natural because alot of dealers sell their stabilized turquoise as natural. A honest dealer should give you a honest answer.

I know the difference between the both. I have natural morinci turquoise which is hard to get a hold of and I also have some stabilized stuff but I know my stabilized stuff is good quality not all plastic like other stuff

Luis Estrada I was not saying you had the reconstituted stuff, if you have stabilized they take the lower grade turquoise and add a resin to it, so how would a stone covered in this plastic/polymer still have the same healing effects as an untreated turquoise? Yes you can say that you have good quality stabilized turquoise if you want, as long as you mention to your customers that it is stabilized then all is good and there is no dishonesty involved. I am not arguing at all, and alot of people would rather buy stabilized then untreated good quality turquoise. ( good quality meaning hard and no stabilization is needed)

Almost all turquoise must be stabilized to be worn, otherwise it just crumbles.

stabilized isn't natural turquoise. it has GLUE in it

Those stabilized beads are NOT true authentic turquoise.

    • @Potomacbeadco

Yes they are, and we list the specific mines from which they were purchased. Nearly all turquoise beads on the market are stabilized, since turquoise itself is too soft.
