This curriculum, as a whole, is definitely not known/talked about enough 😍 I snagged the Year 1 and year 2 bundle for my youngest and wish it had been around when my oldest was in prek! Lol
We are going to start Playing Preschool year one after the holidays !!! I am so excited !!! We are doing our Purley Preschool Fall Unit now it is so cute and fun.
Most of the activities are different in every unit. The only ones I’ve noticed repeating sometimes are letter hunts and spotting letters in the books or around the house. There are different variations of some activities, for example using a ten frame in different ways. The activities are based on the theme of the unit and are all so fun. The units are completely different in year one and year two and the activities are as well. Year two builds off of year one.
Okay, you sold me! My daughter is 3 and I'm definitely going to get this for her. I've been looking for something that is play/activity based and something that is laid out for me step by step! I love this! My question is though. Is this meant to be taught on its own? Or would you normally combine this with another curriculum? Basically, is this enough to be used as a sole curriculum for this age?
100% enough! Begin with Year 1 for your 3 year old :) Year 2 builds upon Year 1. My son is 5 now, so with him and doing year 2 I’ve added in some handwriting for him and sometimes he works in a logic math book but that is only because he loves school and wants more and he will be going into kindergarten next year. It’s an amazing program and if you stay consistent with it, you will see so much growth in your daughter. It really amazes me how much he learns with this program!
These little sprouts what are you planning on using for your little boy for kindergarten? My little boy is 5 (6 in June) we have tried formal learning this year but he is really not enjoying it. Do you think he would be to old for this playing preschool 2? He knows his letter sounds and can count and knows all of his numbers and shapes. I suppose I'm just looking to scale his schooling back and make it fun for him through play. X
@@wendymilne-emslie8329 Hi there! That depends developmentally where he is at. Playing Preschool is meant for preschool levels I would say year two could be a “young 5s” type level. I’m not sure on what we are going to use next year yet, I’m still weighing my options and still deciding. Once a child knows their letters and sounds really well, typically the next step would be to begin learning to read, but not every child is ready at 5 for that. I cannot really say if it is “enough” because what is enough? Every kid learns at a different pace. You know him best, if you feel the need to scale back I say follow that feeling. Sometimes it takes some trial and error to figure out the best fit for them. May I ask what curriculum you are using with him now?

We are currently using maths with confidence level k, explode the code level A (he really enjoys the thinking pages) blossom and root kindergarten level (for the stories we haven't started any science or history yet as I wanted to start simple then add things in as we went along) The ordinary parents guide to teaching reading, I add in letter, number and now sight word sheets when he will tolerate them, and we play games and practice cutting and colouring when he wants to. Last week I started a star reward system. So when we get through an activity eg reading or maths then he gets a star to stick on the fridge when he gets 5 stars he knows we are done for the day. This has been going well but it can be very draining as it takes a lot of effort to get him just through the basics. In total if he was more cooperative it would probably take us about 30/40 minutes total to get through all 5 stars but because we need to stop so much it takes roughly about 2/3 hours.
We also do calendar time and practice writing his name. He is beginning to enjoy calendar time as I changed to one I printed out and he gets to add the velcroed numbers, month and year 😉 ⭐1. Calendar time, story and name practice (sometimes blossom and root sheet or letter/number practice sheet) ⭐2. Reading ⭐3. Explode the code ⭐4. Maths ⭐5. Fun cutting and/or colouring, glueing activity and story
