  • Evan came to Korea as an exchange student and ended up working in Korea. His parents are coming to Korea for the first time from Canada to see their son. As Evan lives in a one-room apartment-a common type of house in Korea, his parents are quite confused by the small size of the house, which is unheard of in Canada.

    I feel like Korean shows are too focused on the appereance of people. I feel sorry for all people that don´t look as good as the people portrayed in this show.

      Why would you feel sorry? Working on appearances is one of many things people should be doing, especially if they are a public figure... I'm not saying it's a must, but a person who takes the effort to value their appearance will always outshine those who don't. The issue with foreigners is that they think of this as an insult to those who are ugly or fat or have some disorder. They try to shift the blame onto social expectations, rather than actually changing themselves. The majority of people can change. Just maintain a good hygiene, skincare, and fitness routine, and you'll easily look much better than those who don't. This isn't about being born handsome or pretty. It's about showing that you at least have some self-respect and willingness to make a good impression, which are important in any professional field anywhere in the world. Evan, for example, is not necessarily handsome or anything. He just knows how to dress himself and look good. If you really don't want to do anything, then you can go on the hundreds of other Korean shows that are more casual. And yes, they exist (a lot do in fact) but aren't as popular overseas bc it's not about Idols, beauty/sales products, and Kpop.

      @@mandy11254 it’s not only about that. Koreans try to fake their appearance. Buying expensive cars to impress the others even they can actually not afford these kind of car. They live in their basement and eat almost everyday ramen because they cannot afford to eat proper food everyday but they drive bmw Mercedes to impress other people.
      It’s not only the look of people. And why is the look so important? Yes of course it is so essential to leave some kind of expression to the others but you don’t have to to survive in der society. The main issue is that Koreans are way too sensitive. Creating words like “outsider” Oder “insider” to separate people is just sad.
      Everyone should have the social freedom to look and wear whatever they like and want and not follow every freaking trend and buy everything to show other people that they are not “outsider”

      @@mandy11254Woah woah mr let me stop u there i don't think u are from korea or even have the slightest idea how bad things are there imagine not getting a job just because you don't fit the made up fake and artificial standard of the spineless society korea has (+the toxicity) Not having friend because they think you are too ugly for them to hang out with them (happens 90+% times they might not say to u in ur face but make up excuse rarely 1% people there won't judge u based on ur looks [U might say it happens every where but there is a point where people stop caring about such trivial sh*t but nope not in korea doesn't matter if ur 15,25 or even 55 u have to look a certain kpop way to not get judged in public places] )it's bad and it's getting even worse getting kids as young as 16 to get plastic eye surgery (to get the double eye lid or else they say u look angry all the time) like what does that even mean .

      Demand is too high because Seoul alone comprises 50% of the country's population, maybe even slightly more. All in an area of only around 12,000 km2. The area of the whole country is slightly more than 100,000 km2

Although there are some difficulties, I feel like my life is here in Korea and there are more opportunities here for me.

    Believe me, there is a clear concept of foreigners in Canada especially if you are a visible minority despite what this Canadian says.
    Even in a multicultural hub like Toronto, the country depends on immigrants for labour and money (for international students paying exorbitant tuition fees).

    • @johnfinance8053
      @johnfinance8053 6 місяців тому +9

      I think he means just on the street, like in Korea they immediately know you are a foreigner without even hearing you speak but in Canada you dont assume anyone is a foreigner unless they have an accent. Im not Canadian but its like that in Australia aswell.

    • @GoldenIP321
      @GoldenIP321 6 місяців тому +6

      I'm like 50/50 on this. In a sense, international students or newcomers aren't necessary seen as "foreigners" - since there's a plethora of Canadians from the same country as them. It's less about race in Canada (compared to Korea) and more so whether someone meets our cultural norms.

      Seoul more expensive than New York State, yes. But NYC? Hell no. You know the cost of a studio in downtown Manhattan is well over 3k USD right? For a studio like this guy even in Gangnam would probably be closer to 1K USD
