I watched #5 Jochen Schmid at the racetrack all the time while stationed in Germany! I used to ride the Hockenheim ring on Thursdays because anyone could ride on the track for 20 Deutsch marks (now 12 Euros in 2002). One day we were told we couldn't go on the track because Jochen was practicing for his next race...once he found out, he told the officials to let us ride which we did. While on the track, Jochen surprised us by going out a few minutes later to practice racing thru "traffic" leaving us in his dust...IT WAS EPIC! 🤩
