Not used to a Public Information Film where nobody gets electrocuted or knocked off a motorbike.

Great to see, thanks! This day was my first Wimbledon aged 13, me and some friends queued for hours to get in - saw Connors play on No3 court then made it to the standing area of No1 court to see the McEnroe Smith match. Ended up getting into Centre Court

Although the clock isn't shown into Grandstand on this occasion the programme starts at 1.30pm with Harry presenting.

I would have been eleven back then and a month away from leaving junior school!

What on earth was the point of that Public Information Film? Why were BBC One showing a two and a half minute film about a minor tourist attraction? Were there any others in the series? 🤔

      Why not have something educational?

The good thing is that this clip captures what not recorded in the radio times for that day. I couldn’t find any reference to this little film elsewhere but I didn’t do exhaustive look

It was to get people out and about over the weekend. There were other national parks PIFs and those about the Ridgeway Path, Cleveland Way and picnics and country walks so this although longer was in keeping.

Feel sorry for the announcer - sounds like he had JUST enough to get all his words in, with the addition of the public information film. I guess there was no clock because the gap was too short to read it :-)

    1. The PIF on Framlingham Castle is priceless. I dont agree with some - Framlingham Castle I believe is a fine castle which I would like to get down and see. They made others here's one

    2. A very different June to June 2023. Perhaps one of the few advantages of living in a high CO2 world?

Is it just me or was the weather generally terrible in 1981? Every time I see a forecast from that year it's always bad. (Not than I can remember because I was only 3). 12 degrees in North East England in late June is really extremely cold!

There were severe thunderstorms in London 5th 6th August 1981. Manchester had flood on that day.

I was eleven and a month away from leaving junior school. Wimbledon I remember watching, though cricket is my game!

It does seem to be the case, we had blizzards at the end of April that year. A cool Summer, cold Autumn and freezing December 🥶. Our climate has definitely changed forever. Having said that I remember as a kid 3 going on 4 the weather being good on Royal wedding day and during most of August.
