Excellent animation and narrative. I read about the eruption, but could never visualize the extent of the destruction until I saw this video. Thank you.
Excellent history of the island. I'm here on Santorini now and it is great to learn all about this beautiful place while here.
BEAUTIFUL STORY OF THE EXTREME NATURE OF VULCANOLOGY OF THE GREEK ISLAND, THANK YOU Nikos Korakakis
Thank you , thank you, thank you for this animation and presentation! I am here and appreciate the knowledge.
I love the narrator's voice....
A truly wonderful and well-made documentary!
Even after this explanation it's hard for me to imagine the raw force behind this volcanic explosion. I mean a normal eruption keeps the volcano intact most of the time... But to blow away an island and leaving a caldera almost 10km in diameter... Unfathomable.
Finally understand! I was there visiting and took a lot of pictures where we can see the volcano.
trully amazing work!

“This is good place to live, nice views, plenty of fish, imma set up on this cliff”
I saw this video at the wine museum of Santorini and this is exactly what I wanted to know about this incredible island.

I remember watching this video in 2019 and when summer came I went there :p
According to Pausanias`"Guide to greece" in Penguin Classics p. 183 in Vol 1 there was in Argos a temple built and dedicated to Poseidon of the surf. If this can be found an estimate of the tsunamis can be made.
John Takolander we should go find it! 😃
Very Interesting!
F O V E R O !!!!!!!! Polla bravo!!!!

Kalimera Nikos,
Thank you
Nicely done
It's just kinda creepy that the current Santorini resort is standing right on the original volcanic slope of Mount Riva
Hello Nikos! I Heard that the plagues in Egypt happened,as a result of the Volcano eruption in santorini. I am greek descendant( grandfather , Methana, Peloponesos) and visited Santorini. I wanted to Go to Crete , next visit Will Go for sure. Akis last name means you're from Crete?Nice vídeo 👍👏👏👏
Yes. Plenty of them can be explained as a result of the eruption. Also the exodus of Moses in the red sea.
Yes I'm from Crete😁
@@NikosKorakakis Thank you! Happy New years!😀🎉👍
Thank you for an excellent presentation
💙
Yeah, ΙΜΠΗΣ "Institute for the Study and Monitoring of Santorini Volcano" says middle of the 17th century BC. 1613 BC hasn't been determined.
So
Is there an english version of this?
No but the narration is almost the same as the text on the video. And there are also subtitles
fueron 100 cm3 el ultimo sondeo
The entire island of Thera is a big candidate of which Plato said the old world ATLANTIS for it is Oblong shaped and has a big mountain(volcano) in the middle of the continent just like what plato described. Evidences also found in these calderas including Santorini which plato also described and these are the 3 kind of volcanic rocks which atlanteans quarry , the white , black, and red rocks. Also the Original author of the story of Atlantis is an Egyptian Priest and not Solon or Plato , it was just passed to them so if we look through Egyptian geographic perspective of the known world of that time is only Libya , Athens and Asia minor now this is why Atlantis is never placed very far from these Region.
I dot not agree. Greek were traveling in America. Atlantida is in Atlantic Ocean.
There is a " santorini " right below me and you watching this video separated only by 12 km of earths crust
Geia Sou Nikos!
Pw Pw! This is a brilliant video!
I want to ask you if I am able to use 20 seconds or less of your animation for a video I am making on Santorini. I will only use the footage, no music or voice. Could I email you for more information?
S'efxaristo.

Tell me it doesn't look like a human face blowing air towards the levant
☄️🌋🌋🌋☄️☄️
Good animation but you have to find the new research that proves that Oia was never connecting with Thirasia but with Akrotiri ....
The eruption was type 7 or 8
type 7.When this video was made, the estimates were about type 6 to 7.After some research made by Manning,we now know for sure it's a large level 7 and the biggest erruption in the last 10k years.
@@panosts432 High 6 very low 7 is the current estimate. As far as the last 10k years go its about the 10th biggest and as far as human times goes it might at a push make thhe top 100.
Nice place to visit, but wouldn’t want to live there...😏
VEI 7 and not even a supervolcano...
VEI 7 is considered mini supervolcano
@@muhammadnursyahmi9440 No it is not. the accepted criteria for a supervolcano is clear. VEI 8, with 1000km3 of ejecta. High estimates of The minoan eruptions ejecta is 40km3 so not even 1/10th of the size of a supervolcanic eruption. There is no such thing as a mini supervolcano.
All that sounds Greek to me.. Oh wait, i am Greek
