Sunset is also a great rum once you get a taste for it. Out of all these rums (and I love them all), Sunset is the smoothest and the best in a rum punch.
You really covered all the bases here, with most of the famous white overproofs! Plus, I think that's the most concise breakdown of proof I've seen online. Most people treat overproof and navy strength as the same thing, so it's great to see a more thorough explanation. I'm definitely gonna recommend this video to people who want a quick explainer on white overproof rums.
I'm loving this terrific and super informative video Pete!! I know next to nothing about rum so I was eager to watch your latest video! I really enjoyed it! Cheers Pete!! :-)
Very cool episode! I recently passed on a bottle of Rivers but was kinda immediately regretting doing so after leaving the store. I will have to pick one up next time I see it. W&N OP is a staple in my house and I do like Rum Fire but it can be a bit ‘much’ at times. I have to be in the mood for it.
Wow man..you killed this! I’ve been using that rum fire like crazy! More funk, more flavor. It’s wonderful and great in cocktails! I have had my W&N for a couple years now. But the rum fire is my go to at the moment. Hvn’t tried the rivers! Great deep dive! Cheers!
Hi Pete! Nice job! Rum Fire sounds really interesting. I like Wray & Nephew. LemonHart 151 is a wonderful overproof rum, but very different from the unaged rums, of course.
Can get Wray and Nephew, reminds me of cachaca. Rumbar I can get with is funkier. Great Video as always. Seeing that the 84abv was with little flavour wonder if you have ever tried Stroh 80 (160) it has caramel for days!!!!
Pete! Really informative overview, and A+ tasting notes on these 4 OP whites! (and delighted to see the 1950s sci-fi spinning bottles again, even if lacking theremin accompaniment lol) Only OP white I have / have tried is W&N... my local go-to also carries Rum Fire, Rum-Bar and Rivers Antoine (except that last one is $80! 😯) For next bottle, been considering more accessibly-priced Rum Fire & Rum-Bar (both ~$30)... any recs as btw those two? (You mentioned you can't get Rum-Bar where you are, but maybe you've tried it elsewhere & have an opinion?) From reviews / taste-offs I've seen, Rum Fire has the edge, but wondered if you had a take... thx pal!
Ha! I should find some theramin music that sounds perfect 😂 I wish I could tell you about rum-bar, I've had their other rums, the gold in particular is really good, so I Imagine it can't be bad. WP tends not to be as funky, while Hampden has a TON of character, so it is just whichever you might prefer, or what application you are looking for. Rum Fire is probably the more interesting if less versitile choice. Cheers Jamie! thanks for watching!
Man I can't drink wrey and nephew white rum, it tastes like jetfuel. I hope the overproof dark plantation rum will taste better in my zombies. Please give me suggestions on what I can use the rest of the bottle for. Cheers.
The classic is Wrey and Nephew + Ting. Ting is a grapefruit soda that I've never seen across the 3 states I've lived in, but I understand it is available in the U.S., just not where I've looked. I've tried it with some other grapefruit sodas, such as Jalisco (mexican), and Fresca. It does mix well with them and since you can control the proportion of rum to soda, you can probably find a mix that you like, assuming you like grapefruit. I've also tried adding some grapefruit bitters to the mix and that's pretty nice as well. I haven't tried it, but I bet a little lime would also work well in the mix.
Besides J Wray and Ting, you could always make a daiquiri, or just add a little to your normal daiquiri, to jazz it up a bit, and there are a few tiki drinks that call for it, or maybe try a chartreuse swizzle! It's also possible that is just not for you! Cheers!
Sunset is also a great rum once you get a taste for it. Out of all these rums (and I love them all), Sunset is the smoothest and the best in a rum punch.
I only had a sample, so I haven't been able to get used to it, but I do enjoy the rivers Antoine quite a bit. Cheers!
Thank you for the great reviews of overproof rums!
Any time!
Thanks for the shout out!
Thanks for the rum!
@@UnclePete you are welcome

Oh thanks! I was super intrigued when I read the cocktailwonk article. I think people assume navy strength is 57 because of S&C but NO!

Awesome, thank you! I got lots more rum videos if you like that sort of thing :)

Rivers is fun, but dagerous!
Cool!! This was very informative. Enjoyed the math and learning about these obscure rums from countries I only know from Globle!
Glad you enjoyed it! Everyone loves Math!
Thanks for doing another one of these. So informative.
My pleasure! Thank YOU for saying so!
Wray & Nephew in an atomizer makes a wonderful cologne. I wonder if the others would too. No rules (or nature outro)!
LOL Rum Fire cologne sounds outstanding!
This video was getting kinda long, so I left out the nature...no rules!
Super VID! Thanks for sharing! 💥💥💫💥💥40
Thank you! Cheers!
Loved the video, Pete! This was a great reminder that I need to get me a bottle of Wray & Nephew
You should! Its a classic. Thanks for watching!
Nice rundown! I've had the Wray & Nephew and would love to try the others.
You should if you get the chance!

Thanks Ann! Rum Fire is Dope AF I agree!
The math at the beginning hurt my aging brain but I’m glad I stuck it out. 😅 Great tasting!
You and me both!
This video slaps
😂😂 YOU slap.
It starts with Plaid, and ends with some great knowledge, I have the Wray & Nephew, But I would like to try the others.

@@UnclePete You Shirt. Its a nifty Plaid
LOL I see Thanks!

Hi! Thanks! Yeah Lemon hart is a whole nother thing!
I keep not buying rum fire because of the bottle, but now, after this video, I think I’ll need to grab some.
LOL I had the same experience! I figured it couldn't be good, that was before I fell in love with Hampden.
Had me at rum. ❤❤ sunset is stroooong !!!!
It's bonkers!

I've had stroh once I think? I remember it being bad, But I may have been drunk :)
I am hoping rum bar OP shows up here soon. Cheers!
Interesting vid Pete! I think we need a daiquiri taste test for the first 3 rums!
Oh yes! Good idea!

Wray and Nephew with coconut syrup, 2:1 over ice.....
The last two are impossible to find
Well I found rivers with no problem, I have never seen the Sunset before. Cheers!
