I have compared the phono MM amongst the schiit mani, art dj, Behringer pp400 and the pyle pp999. eqpt used:sl1200LTD,rega carbon, monster speaker cable nmc, naim 72 + 140 & rogers ls3/5a 15ohm. I would rank them from worse to best: pyle
Even with the compression, the MM/MC sounds better. The individual instruments have more clarity and are more distinguishable, with the MM sounding more muddied in comparison. It's not a HUGE difference but to my ear the MM/MC does have the edge...
I have been using the Phono Box E, with a Rega P3/Exact cartridge for around 3 months now. Everytime i listen i am amazed how good it sounds for the low price (i payed $129 AUD).
HI. It would have been interesting here to hear a null test comparing the two. Otherwise thanks for your great work! I really appreciate it, it's been useful to me for comparing cheap phono pre and Nagaoka cartridges.
Would I need a bigger pre-amp to drive JBL LX-400 speakers thru my Yamaha HTR-5730 Receiver? I just use it as a 2 channel stereo system. Not as 5.1. My turntable has a built in pre-amp but I'd like a boost for vinyl listening. What do you think?
Tried this with an ATLP60 that has an existing preamp to compare if it would improve the sound quality and I could not see much of a difference. Wish I had the same experience as others here with this preamp.
was intending to get another project phono box mm (the black one in this vid) as a backup set. but seems like the phono box e (the white one in your vid) is cheaper. just to confirm the sound quality is identical among these 2, just the casing is different? thanks
Yeah, I heard ZERO difference as well. I own a Pro-ject Tube Box S and this makes me wonder how much different it sounds compared to these three. I think it's a great sounding pre-amp, but I'm wondering if it was worth the price difference.
I think the tube version is gimicky, it has solid state parts in the front end with the tubes as buffer on the output, I have the Little Bear T7 which is tube
@@manFromPeterborough Yeah, that's what I thought. I bought mine a few years ago after seeing Techmoan's review of it. It did make a major improvement in the sound compared to the phono stage on my receiver, but that's probably not because of the tubes. Had I known about the Schitt Mani at the time, I would have gotten it instead. It costs far less but would probably sound just as good as the tube box S.
@@purplesabbath9057 The HiViNyws guy rate the Schiit very highly, I found the Phono box DS a bit unexciting, so I stayed with the TC-778 all transistor box that has flat treble curve for early 78 records, eventually my mum's cheap nasty batt preamp crapped out in L ch, it's sound quality was terrible from get go,many years of her listening to 2nd rate audio from a B&O 1500 TT my dad bought, it sounded like a cheap boombox. Mum is now enjoying the Pro-ject phono DS
@@watsonanthony8438 I've stopped using little bear T7, the TC 778 is far better, although solid state transistor and a 78 EQ curve for early electric and acoustic recorded 78s

Great vid to clear this up, thanks.

Fantastic channel and great info. Keep up the good work.

Phono Box DC has subsonic filter, the others dont.
Great job
Good comparison! Thanks!
Good Point...thanx for sharing it!!
Nice Video, but how do the compare to the Phono Box S2?
thanks for this video like box mm

To my 51 year old ears, the MM had slightly more treble.

hi, i also wanted to get it for my at lp60x to improve the internal pre…so you didn't notice any difference???
The limitation is your turntable. Even if you try a $10,000 phono preamp, the LP60 is still going to be the bottleneck in performance.
Very interesting!

@@manFromPeterborough i saw the tube bear. Take it back immediately. The tubes are used as a buffer instead of amplification unlike the pro-ject s2

...any major differences n sound quality btw those 3 models and the Phono Box S, which is slightly more expensive?
Just bought the MM/MC mk2 after watching this and other reviews. Does anyone know if it is better than the original ones?
Thx!

Golden VinylSpin cause he only play them a few seconds
You can play copyrighted music, the copyright holders will just claim all your ad revenue.
Great thanks ! How does it compare with the shiit mani?
That’s coming next
Cool ! Thanks 🙏

Really in the bin? If it's actually just sat on a shelf then I'll have it. Happy to cover postage within the UK.
