Great suggestions! My children all learned to read with All about Reading. One of my sons seems to have dyslexia, and the curriculum is great for him as well!

Thank you for sharing! We also love MUS. I love that is so adaptable for those who need to spend more time in a concept/lesson, or go at a faster pace. I’ve been so curious about Spell to Write and Read. We’ve used so many programs for my struggling reader, but are finding good progress using Sonlight’s readers 1-2 program (it looks similar to HOD’s).

It's so sweet to look back when they were younger! I feel like I was just figuring it out when my kids were younger (started homeschooling at grades K and 2). I have sweet memories of the early Sonlight programs with my daughter (generously gifted by a friend) and for language arts - my picks are Abeka phonics, Handwriting without Tears, Explode the Code, First Language lessons, and Writing with Ease. We had to try a bunch of math programs before finding the right fit. And I wish I had started Apologia science earlier - we love them and will not be able through the entire Young Explorers series.

Loved this! We're using The Reading Lamp (Jean Evans version of SWR), Gather Round Homeschool for science & history, and The Good and the Beauiful math

Thank you for watching!! I knew she was working on something for SWR.
I would love to find out more about it 😉

Hi! I tried searching for The Reading Lamp you mentioned but I can’t find it. Can you share a resource or link? Thanks!

The Reading Lamp curriculum is currently being written, so I don't have a link to share. It is based off the Spalding Spell to Write and Read (SWR) method. SWR is really good as well!

I have 2 boys and we are in our 7th year. You have helped point me to HOD for the youngest for grade 3 next year. I think the readers heavy on animal stories and American history is going to be a great fit for him.

All About Reading is my top pick for teaching a child to read. I taught Kindergarten before I homeschooled and this was by far a superior program to anything I had used before. 😊 I also LOVED Explode the Code along side of AAR. Math U See for Math!!!

Thank you for sharing!! Good to know about AAR😉 Explode the Code worked well for a couple of my boys.

Thank you for this video! It s so helpful! I ve been homeschooling my son since kindergarten and he's currently in 2nd grade. We ve been using MUS the whole time and I m liking it but recently a local teacher told me she would suggest that I switch math curriculum bc she said MUS leaves gaps in areas and doesn't do story problems. Have u found this to be the case? I don't really want to switch but also don't want gaps. I have been supplementing with extra practice for money, measurement and time. We have story problems on most MUS activity sheets so not sure why she thought MUS doesn't do story problems. Anyway, did u use MUS all the way through and found it was a good math education? Thanks!

I am so glad the video was helpful. I want to say first there is a lot of hear say about most curriculum. I can even be guilty about saying something, mainly because I know it would not work for my child. But I have to remember it may be perfect for someone else’s😉
It is funny that a teacher would say that, when I have heard other math teachers talk of how solid it is.
Yes it does have word problem, that can be challenging 😉
I have a son that did excellent in math and aced Algebra in college.
I have one who still struggles math.
      Both used MUS.
Do you need to extra work sheets? I would only say if he wants and enjoys the challenge. They are not necessary 😉
For me personally I always pray about, discuss with my husband.
But if working for you and your son I say stick with it. ❤️🙏

    Great recommendations. Thank you!
I am thinking about using The Good and the beautiful for my sons preschool and Pre-k but new at all this so not sure if it is worth buying yes it's cheaper then most out there but not sure about any until I try it.
What's your opinion about the good and the beautiful do you know anything about it, the pros and cons of it, does it work?

I cannot say how they are because we have not used, but do know people who like it. I personally could not use it because of our own personal beliefs😉
Whatever you decide, the most important things at this age is making sure they hear the truths of God and His Word, along with learning letters and numbers. Also Enjoying reading books together❤️🙏

My youngest (2 boys) fatigue quickly, so we use Logic of English A&B, Math With Confidence 2, and attempting TGTB K, but i can't get it to print out at the moment

I've been homeschooling for 10 years now. I currently have children from preschool through high school. We are using Considering God's Creation for science for my kindergarten, first grader, third grader and 6th grader. It is a great science though it is not very well known. Two other recommendations for these early years: Rod and Staff preschool and Pre-K books and Five in a Row.
