- This is a 2001 promotional CD for the first line of LEGO Bionicle sets. It's a full size CD, but the contents seem to be identical to the mini CD that apparently was included with some Toa sets. I have no idea where I got my disc from, perhaps from LEGO store or some magazine.
I recorded a separate video where I unlock all the masks with codes since it was a little repetitive.

My childhood was playing this CD over and over again, I still love listening to the narration. 2001 was such a fascinating year for Bionicle.
Same, I recently opened up the disc tray of an old PC of ours and found the disc inside. I just used to play the CD over and over again. The vibe of the early Bionicle's was immaculate.
It is fascinating, especially it was the first year.
6:45 That glyph between Mata Nui and Makuta... They were already slipping in foreshadowing of the Great Spirit Robot. So crazy to think.
I like that screen with all the toa in it. There's something about these old CD games. Something about the backgrounds, the early CG, idk. There's just an atmosphere about them that makes me wish I could just step inside them and look around
I always wish i knew the names of the programs they used to make this style of CG

Ah, 2001, where little 4-year-old me was given Pohatu for my birthday, and got the other 5 later on. I remember having my dad install the CD's content and putting in the codes on the masks. I loved watching those animations, I was so excited about the fact that each mask had its own name and power and wasn't just a Toa's face.
I'm probably not alone when I say that I was surprised that Gali was a girl. But I was never really bothered by it. She was probably my favorite of the six Toa.
Even now, despite all that's happened, Bionicle is still a big part of my life. I'm still involved with the community, I create MOCs, I join in on the discussions.
To think that it all started with a brown figure in a plastic can and the small CD that came with it.
Thanks for uploading this, it's really a snapshot of my childhood. It also really drives home just how weird and unique Bionicle was in 2001. Imagine being a 10-year-old kid who just got a cool new LEGO robot from the store, noticed it came with a little CD, popped it into the computer and saw this. Brilliant way to get kids interested in the world of Bionicle. 2001 was a magical time.
I don't have to imagine. Except I don't think my cd came with a set. At the time I was also a bit sad that Slizers are no longer a thing.
@@adenowirus Slizers were retired the year before Bionicle though right? Roboriders replaced that, and then we got Bionicle.
@@GarrettTBeelowComposer In Poland it was Slizers in 1999, mutant Slizers and RoboRiders in 2000 and Bionicle in 2001. The thing I liked about Slizers was that each one was put together differently. Meanwhile among the six original Toa Pohatu had upside-down torso and Onua's head was put on differently. The only differences between the rest of them were the mask, the tool and color.
When I tried Bionicle's MNOLG, I didn't understand the story of the two stone figures or their names at the time back in 2001. But this CD I got with Tahu and Vakama gave me enough information about the story a lot clearer.

I really think the vibe of early 2000s era stuff is... kind of difficult to describe. Everything seemed fancy, using that flashy new 3D rendering tech to show off how advanced they were. Somehow, the low resolution of it all manages to make it seem, I don't know, more _open,_ like there was more out there that you just couldn't see yet.
And the vibe of Bionicle also happens to be super similar to Metroid Prime, which came about the same time.
12:27 "Some say he would have three heads." While Teridax still had his physical body, he had three aliases or heads: Turaga Dume, Corrupted Matoran, and Shadow Titan. And while there was the fourth Ultimate Dume, it was simplified and turned into just Shadow Titan with wings in Legends of Metru Nui movie. So yes, what the narrator says is correct. 😄
So according this promo onuva is literally useless most times because he is as good as blind outside dark places, Kopaka and Gali will be weakened in regions where Tahu and Pohatu will be on peak of their strenght so will fire and stone be weakened at water and ice regions. And Lewa is no-weakness guy.
But Onua makes up for it with good hearing, and Lewa is very clumsy on flat surfaces and gets into trouble more often than others.
Ah, this never fails to take me back.
Nostalgia hits really hard with this one
For as much as I never really looked into Bionicle beyond Mask of Light and one of the Metru toa, I have to admit, 2001 Gali had probably my favorite-looking mask of the bunch.
I'm a sucker for goggles.
Jesse Isbell Gali was also one of my favourites, I think she's also the only Toa Mata with a transparent mask.
@@MythicSuns Toa Nokama's mask was also a little more translucent than most of the others, but it's nowhere near as obvious as Gali's first mask.

Gosh I wish I'd had one of these... but then my family were pretty computer-illiterate, so I doubt if we'd have gotten them to work. I loved this kind of stuff and I think it's a perfect it with Bionicle, especially the first wave. Something about those simpler designs has always stuck with me.
I was so desperate thinking there was a hidden game on this CD and trying to find it as a 10 yo kid 20 years ago.
I had gotten this disk with my Onua. I think that only a select few releases for each Toa had a disk included and only my Onua had one. I didn't even notice that it had a disk until I opened the canister.

@@esperaccelerator8404 yah definitely. My family didn't have a ton of vhs tapes that I liked growing up, so Bionicle let me make alot of my own stories haha

So the word “tool” is basically Bionicle’s way of saying “weapon.”
To be fair, I don't think there were any official materials showing them being used for combat. At least at that point in time.
well a knife is a tool that you use to cut food, and a fork is also a tool used to help eat it, but you could stab someone with both of them and they'd be a "weapon"
Better to say “tool” than weapon when selling toys to kids. Parents, especially back then, got all weird about “weapons” being promoted in toys.

Z tego co pamiętam płyta ta duża była dawana przy okazji kupowania któregoś z setów toa mata. Sam posiadam dwie a zawartość sprawiała mi ogromną frajdę. Dzięki temu nauczyłem się prawidłowo wymawiać imiona poszczególnych bohaterów.

I still have this mini cd rom to this day, though it is in black and white. And whenever I enter the code in, the mask pops out.

The weird thing is that my disc is a full size CD, even though it has the same content as the mini-CD.

@@eschelon9067 No. It's an original CD, but I don't remember where I got it. In a comment below, LuftWafel1946 said that they were given away loose with Toa Mata sets, perhaps in official LEGO stores.

@@eschelon9067 Contents of the mini-CD are described in detail on the internet and they seem identical to what I have on my CD.

I think it just symbolises Makuta, but I could be wrong. I'm not that familiar with Bionicle lore.
It's symbol of Makuta, and I think it's also symbol of his Shadow Hand

iirc there is a scene missing from this. I think it was to the right of the piano. It was something black and white, and maybe something about a band
I might eventually double check, but I don't think there was anything besides the link to Universal Music page.
@@adenowirus I made some memory and now I remember that it was something about the Barcode Brothers. I got the CD in Latin America, so it may be possible that the screen is missing in your version.

Those seem to be flash games, probably the ones you could play on LEGO Technic website.
I did some searching and apparently the live action footage comes from european tractor pulling championships (or similar event) when the Danish Fox Team Larsen was sponsored by LEGO.
