Laenor literally sailing away from everything reminded me of what he told Rhaenyra, "The wise sailor flees the storm as it gathers." I wonder if we will see if he comes back to help during the dance of the dragons. Also, Lena's valarian death was by fire, but she was buried at sea, just like her parents were from fire and sea. Something else to note in the whole eye for an eye is most definitely a foreshadowing of Blood and Cheese.
He can never really return, it would be a political nightmare and he would probably be assasinated for real. Let the man enjoy his life as his true self in Essos.

It definitely seems like Allicent has realized the only kid that will do what she wants without question is Aemond. He definitely is her main chess piece, when she has so few that loyally on her side.
Daemon ends up killing him in a sweet dragon fight. He jumps from dragon to dragon while flying and slams Dark Sister in his good eye. No one lives, both dudes both dragons crash and smear.
@Likerholicz that's not the end. The end is far more boring. Both sides just end up marrying back into each other. Technically the greens win but really it was just a big L for House Targaryen. If you don't want it spoiled for you then crack a book, bud.
Laenor is basically an earned twist and an actual subversion of expectations, considering the morality spectrum and level of cruelty characters showcase.
You guys should do a reaction video for the finale or something, even using the animated characters!!! I would be so interested in how you react to some of these things happening!
Also "poor sea smoke, corlys, and rhaenys. Biggest losers in this situation." And also that guard they killed and toasted in the fire like a marshmallow lol
Pay attention to the motherhood between Rhaenyra and Alicent. How can you be a good queen if you can't even be a good mother? Alicent has turned into a deranged mom.
So Rhaenerya lying to her kids about their father is good parenting? Also, notice the affection towards Alicent by Aemond after the stabbing - Alicent protecting her child's honor is what earns his affection. Alicent's actions are totally understandable considering what's at stake.
Alicent showed that repressed emotions will not end well. She said “she gave up everything to do duty”. Rhea said “oh yea, how is that working out for you?” If you see Daemon in a hood, he is up to no good lol.
@@michaelrussell7806 have you considered that Laenor phisically cant give her the kids? Like maybe he has what Maegor did, narrow urethra, thats a real issue when wanting kids. They both admit they tried and nothing came of it. Laenor most likely was the one to suggest she seek out Harwin.

Got major Tywin Lannister vibes from Corlys in this episode, especially when he's talking with Rhaenys earlier in the episode about legacy and how history remembers names not blood.
I'm team Green because I think they have the underdog status - Cole, Alicent, Larys - they are all self-made in a way Rhaenyra and Daemon never had to be. When she was a teenager, Rhaenyra's rebelliousness was endearing. Now that we see the consequences of her actions, she's simply become self-absorbed to the point of unfeeling. And all because her dad didn't have the courage to punish her at any point.
No spoilers, but we will see if that feeling lasts. Same thing for anyone who chooses team black. This isn't a story that heroes thrive in. This is murky water/Shakespearean territory.
@@jessjess23brooks89 the way the writing team is working I don’t see them making her anything like her book counterpart (as far doing vile an malicious things) but I’m happy to be wrong because at least they would then get something right

Aemond could be *Walmart* *Daemon* the way Kylo Ren is Flea Market Vader. 🤣 We'll see what Ewan Mitchell brings. Give him layers for us to feel compassion for him.
Alicent is so wrong in so many ways, it’s almost jarring the character is permitted a continued existence in the story. Her entire mission is treasonous, petty, and transparently self serving. Her husband is the king. HE named Raynera. Clearly. So before any bodily fluids get involved, A is already in the wrong. Add to that the fact that the children she’s ostensibly “protecting” by all this nonsense have - at best - as much Targ in their blood as the ones she seeks to destroy. On top of all that, the “threat” that R represents is completely fabricated. Her father told her R was a threat to her children and she just lapped it up and acted on it. No conversation. No investigation or thought. She just decided that the blacks were a mortal threat and set about abandoning her own sanity to eradicate them. When Otto makes reference to “the game” they’re playing at, I wonder what A feels is the nature of that game? Clearly the game involves destroying het husband’s children and seizing power. It’s certainly not about any immediate threat. He’s commending his daughter for having become a sociopathic monster.
That's not how it works. Alicent's kids are a breathing threat to Raynera's legitimate claim. So long as they live there will be houses in the kingdoms that will plot against Raynera on her ascension. Don't you get that?
Vic is in the wrong not Alicent. The historical precedent is that there have been no female rulers, ever, and that the first male heir inherits the throne. Vic named Ray his heir when he had no sons. When he did this no one in the realm or the lords that knelt for her believed this was a permanent installment. They believed that Vic would remarry and have children again even though he was so blinded by grief he couldn't see it. As soon as he had Aegon he should have reaffirmed publicly his commitment to Ray being the heir and changed the rules that from that point on for Targaryen succession, that the oldest living child will inherit the throne. Westeros is a society built on control over sex and male heir succession. Every house follows these rules and have for a long time. To change the rules nationwide would cause widespread civil unrest and I believe assassination attempts at Vic. I personally believe simply establishing the rule to bind his own family would have been acceptable to everyone. Ray having bastards also complicated and exacerbated the problems already existing. It was a slap in the face to Alicent personally and really a nose up and middle finger to the realm. Rules are for you, not for me. Ray's children are not legitimate and by law and precedent again would not inherit from Ray, she'd need trueborn children. Vic and through him Ray feel they can flaunt the established way, break rules, and do whatever they want without consequence. People like this will always cause turmoil and strife. Even if we really like them.
@@paulcashion8049 I agree completely with your assessment, it's the main reason why I agree with Alicent. Alicent's children have the strongest claim, even a blind person can see this.
@@paulcashion8049 Every king in Westeros bends the rules and yes: it is very much a double standard. Of course both Vis and Ray share the blame here, but those two are at least trying to do their duty and keep the realm from exploding. Ray never threatened A’s kids. On the contrary she offered to join their houses ! Alicent spit it back at her and why? She can’t claim the threat against her children is real AND refuse the marriage of the kids. Nobody made the threat and the offered union completely negates it. Of course Ray and V make mistakes, but it’s Alicent who’s hell bent on going to the mattresses all for some weird jealous power trip based on events a decade in the past.
@@alik5895 So if Vis legitimized the kids and admitted to their bastardy? What then? It’s well within his powers as king to do it, and I’m sure any potential rebellion still exists whether or not it happens. It’s not for Alicent to question the legitimacy of heir’s children. There will always be challenges to succession, but if both families are United in common cause the threats are at least lessened. V already killed a wife on purpose just because of the prophecy as he perceived it. He’s a monarch. He gets to do whatever he wants. That’s the overriding rule in Westeros. It’s not blood or family or theoretical rebellion. It’s whatever the king says. In this case he’s been pretty clear. A little less forceful than is necessary, perhaps, but clear. Alicent knows all this and so do her councilors. That’s why they keep the king’s death a secret. They’re being secretive because they’re doing something wrong, and they know it. Your argument seems to be that because the blacks might go to war over the throne, Alicent might as well start that war through treachery and try to win before the other side can act. The fact is that it’s Alicent’s duty to do as her king bids, not to second guess his directives and assault his grandchildren.
Really enjoyed this episode, was genuinely shocked by the ending in a good way. Loved the night sky Vhagar shots 🌌 Wtf to Daemon and Rhaenyra hooking up literally right after Laena’s funeral, but otherwise good for them.

Killing laenor would’ve been a hard thing to believe, him and rhaenyra looked like they genuinely cared for each other because of the arrangement they were stuck with. She probably did want to set him free just didn’t know how, daemon has no problem killing, him helping laenor escape has to 100% be under the instruction of rhaenyra
Re. the lighting, I don't about anyone else but I had no problem seeing detail or the actors faces and expressions. Same with The Long Night which was, admittedly, darker. A few small adjustment and both my cheapo Hisense and old LG flatscreens provide a fine picture without sacrificing quality elsewhere. So maybe the newer tv's have lost some range in adjustment? I wonder.
"You have a harder road. Baela's dragon was born to her. But if you wish to be a rider, you must claim that right. Your father would tell you the same." Laena velaryon herself agrees with aemonds philosophy of claiming dragons and so does daemon thats just the targaryen way
The lighting was a huge L into. It came off as if a filter was used for every scene. It didn’t seem like it was night time at all. I didn’t even think they were going for a night time scene bc of how terrible it looked. It seemed like it was daytime, w/ a stretched out panty hose over the lense lol. There was too many clouds and no stars or night sky for it to be nice. But the filter made it seem like they didn’t want it to be day time. So idk what they were going for there, but it didn’t work.
Am I insane or do they post these reviews and then take them back down for like a day or two and then repost them? I was watching the episode 7 review on tuesday and then went to finish the rest of it later and it was gone. Seems like this happens almost every week??
What exactly got flagged in the review that got it taken down? Just curious, love these, they nearly make the episode for me as someone who has no one to rant about HoTD to.
It's no secret that Laenor is gay, and Alicent throwing a bitch fit that Rhaenyra's kids aren't his is ridiculous. What does Alicent want Rhaenyra to do? Rape her husband?! The Velaryons have legitimised the boys, they are still Rhaenyra's kids, they are dragon riders. Also Alicent has no right to be pissed at Rhaenyra, she went behind her friends back to seduce her father and marry into the family to usurp Rhaenyra
Welcome back guys, I still don’t like Corlys anymore with his self-centered ambitions and Laenor’s aloof, obliviousness and for making his parents believe he’s dead. I don’t know what people are saying about adult Rhaenyra not having chemistry with Daemon. I could feel the fire 🔥 actually it cannot be like before cuz they have both matured and gone through a lot. That saying I could still feel the fire.
It is ironic how Corlys was saying it was injustice when Rhaenys was not made the heir by Jahearys because she is a woman yet he is doing the same thing to his granddaughters Baela and Rhaella not to inherit Driftmark because Lucerys has the name (and a male) even though not of his Velaryon blood.
Because it’s not just that there was a tradition of it going to the oldest male with Corlys If he did that he would put a total spotlight on Luc and his brothers and make it even worse for them he even said it
Aaron, Rhaenyra's boys are angels compared to Alicent's boys. It was Aegon who instigated the bullying of Aemon. Yes, Jace and Luke went along with it, but it was clearly Aegon who did it and then lied to his mother. And in this episode Jace and Luke were defending their female cousins when Aemon physically attacked her. Yes they were down to scrap with Aemon, but only in that they were depending their innocent cousin.
Rhaenyra's boys are good kids. They only joined the fight after Rhaena and Baela got hit and knocked down. They were defending their cousin. The small interactions of Jace and Luke show they are sweet kids. Them telling their mother excitedly that they had picked a dragon egg for Joffery. Jace pulling back Luke's hand from the hot coals that hold Joffery's dragon egg. Luke telling Corlys that he doesn't want Driftmark because it means Corlys and Laenor are dead. Jace and Luke holding their cousins' hand to comfort them.

He has to die somehow, so I’m sure this isn’t the last we see of him.
If the writers are smart he is just gone
@@KatieLHall-fy1hw I agree, especially since the "official" records all say that he died.

He’s a solid rook for sure!
Daemon ends up killing him in a sweet dragon fight. He jumps from dragon to dragon while flying and slams Dark Sister in his good eye. No one lives, both dudes both dragons crash and smear.

@Likerholicz that's not the end.

Pay attention to the motherhood between Rhaenyra and Alicent. How can you be a good queen if you can't even be a good mother? Alicent has turned into a deranged mom.
Man I got dragged when I pointed out that Alicent has raised a drunk, an emo girl, and an incel lol.
@@ms.anonyma2325 from the beginning it shows her with her kids not even comforting them ,motherhood is not her thing.
So Rhaenerya lying to her kids about their father is good parenting? Also, notice the affection towards Alicent by Aemond after the stabbing - Alicent protecting her child's honor is what earns his affection. Alicent's actions are totally understandable considering what's at stake.

What happened to the eps 8 video! 😮😮
It got tagged while I was listening to it last evening, so happy to finish this! 🙌🏽
Ok, I KNEW it. I saw this video up and when I went back to watch it after work it had vanished!! Poof!! I was starting to think I had mistaken another video for Nerd Soup (not possible, you guys are the best!) Ha ha! Thanks for all your great content. :)
I think you guys completely overlooked Helena remember when she said her brother will have to close an eye to claim a dragon and look what happened to his eye in this episode she's definitely a dragon dreamer
Facts
@@jessjess23brooks89 the way the writing team is working I don’t see them making her anything like her book counterpart (as far doing vile an malicious things) but I’m happy to be wrong because at least they would then get something right
What underdog status queen mad her friend got dick and she didn't better start a war guy who kid turns out could have been king nope get mad being the hidden side piece or guy who kin slays for irl feet pics
Glad this is back! a thumbs up and a comment for it!
Really enjoyed this episode, was genuinely shocked by the ending in a good way. Loved the night sky Vhagar shots 🌌 Wtf to Daemon and Rhaenyra hooking up literally right after Laena’s funeral, but otherwise good for them.
Why did they take it down ?
Why’d the original get taken down?

Okay I had thought this was previously uploaded. I saw it a day or so ago and didn't immediately click on it (didn't have 40 minutes to spare right then.) Went back to look for it yesterday and it was nowhere to be found. I thought I was going crazy.

Ser cole is so easily the character I hate the most in this show 😭
Yes, got the notification. It’s back.
Daemon does not have enough screen time 😞. He is the best character.
I’m fasting today, but soup will be consumed!

Fuck copy right. I guess I'll wait for the re-upload again. These reviews are the only thing that I like to fall asleep too.
Why was this reuploaded
Hey when are we going to get a review of rings of power latest episode. Eagerly anticipating!

Not true, the Valeryon girl attacked Aemond first. Fucked up to hit a girl like he did but they (she) threw the first blow. Aemond only reacted.
