Thank you! I'm 51. I watched this only in the 80's and never forgot it. I love the message against discrimination . I wish world peace and merry Christmas to all! Greetings from Chile! 🌲❤️🎁
This is the stuff they should be re-mastering and re-releasing! I'm 55 and my sister and I STILL remember it. Too bad the networks became cowardly and stopped airing it. It has so many great lessons! LOVED IT!
I'm not a Christian but I adore this. I remember it from childhood and have a memory of watching it with my father when I was 5 or so. He died when I was 12. Watching Christmas movies with him is the best childhood memory I have. Thank you for this!
@aliisonrogers1409. It was a great Christmas treat especially when you were 5-6 years old, It made Christmas morning even more better for a young child.
I remember seeing this a week before my son was born in Dec 1973. I cried through the entire show . The song about a baby being the greatest miracle really did it ! Now after 48 years , it still is one of the prettiest songs I have ever heard ! Yes, it definitely needs to be remastered. Thanks for the memory !!
Thank you so much for posting this! I remember it as a child. I just watched it for the first time since I was a child. Beautiful movie. Beautiful message.
My younger brothers and I would watch this every Christmas season along with Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer and The Year Without a Santa Claus. They stopped airing this after 1974 for some strange reason. Thank GOD the other 2 are still on.
I can't believe I found this movie! I haven't seen this movie in almost 50 years. This was one of my mom's favorite Christmas movies and it brings many happy memories back to me. Thank you so much for posting.
I remember when I was a kid this was shown on Christmas morning, and it was on at around 7:30.am It was aired 4 times from 1970-73, I remember it was shown always on Christmas morning I would have been about 6. My sisters and I would be glued to the TV ,The first time I saw it I remember feeling sad when the animals stopped talking, This brings back golden memories. It made Christmas even more better when you were a child.
I was five when this was first shown on ABC, and when it reached the ending and the animals were trying to tell the world that Christ was born...I just started crying so, so hard. How could anyone be so cruel to take that moment away from them? Now, I'm fifty-three...and the ending still gets me. Why this remains so unknown is a shame...
Think of it this way ... if the humans living at that time heard animals speaking, they would have freaked out, thinking the animals were demon-possessed. Then they would have taken up rocks and sticks and would have beaten or stoned the animals to death, out of fear. Having the power of speech removed from them before any human could hear them saved all those animals' lives. But as the old ox said, at least the animals learned the truth among themselves. If you Google "animals talk at midnight on Christmas Eve," you'll see that this special is partially based on an old legend that is exactly what you put in the search engine. So theoretically, the animals in this special got to talk among themselves again at midnight the following Christmas -- and the one after that, and so on. "And so it was with all animals ever afterward."
I am 61 and can remember the 1st time I watch this with M&D and my 2 younger brothers. I cried at the end when the animals lost their voices while telling the birth of Christ. I had a little tear watching it just now, too.

Why has this Christmas cartoon remained so unknown? Because it's one of the few Christmas cartoons that has nothing to do with Santa Claus!

I remember this being shown with the Oscar winning Richard Williams A Christmas Carol ua-cam.com/video/ZTzyC9CZuOA/v-deo.html

This never got much traction on the network.
But it was very done.
Imagine a remake of this now?
it needs remade.
I remember Was Robert Goulett In It
Does anyone know who holds the rights to this? It definitely needs a restoration and an official DVD/Blu-ray release.

Judeans would never keep pigs which were considered unclean and sinful.
Oh, they kept them all right -- to sell to the Gentiles (Roman, Greeks, etc.) to eat. They just avoided eating the pigs themselves.
