- Here in all of it's heartwarming glory is "The Tiny Tree", the all-but-forgotten 1975 DePatie-Freleng animated Christmas special. It hasn't aired on TV in decades and has never been released on home video or DVD. It made a strong impression on those of us old enough to have seen it so many years ago with it's gentle message of love and friendship.
Roberta Flack performs the songs "To Love And Be Loved" and "When Autumn Comes", and three of Johnny Marks' Christmas songs are in this show..."A Caroling We Go", "Merry Merry Christmas To You", and "Joyous Christmas".
It is my hope that "The Tiny Tree" is released on DVD some day...it deserves so much more than to be just another forgotten Christmas special. - Фільми й анімація

Did you know our Uncle Ed (he's really my cousin but every one called him Uncle) who was a Doctor in real life actually played the doctor in the movie Deliverance with Burt Reynolds!!! We have a lot of family that were in the movie industry and in animation and directing.

Thanks for posting. I had been trying to find it. When I heard "To love and be loved" back in 1975, I vowed to sing it at my wedding and I did almost 17 years later!

Thank you so much for posting The Tiny Tree. My brother and I would watch this movie over and over but I could never find it as an adult because we called it The Little Tree. I plan on playing it for him at our Christmas get together this year.
This was a beautiful story. I love the relationship with the girl, the animals and the little tree. I love the songs especially about the clarinet. I played the clarinet.
LOVED THIS SHOW as a kid. Have it on VHS from an old recording. So glad its still around.
It was a family tradition when my children where young to always watch this at Xmas. I had recorded it on video of the TV. It would always leave me with heart felt feelings I could not explain. My son is now 25yr old. Last August as he was traveling oversea he had an accident and is now a paraplegic . He was told he would never walk again. We watched the show for years after he grow up and left home. It was always on our Xmas to do list. I now understand what my feelings. Thank you Lynda

I too hope it will be released one day......It was one of my favorite Christmas TV Specials from my childhood..I can't figure out why the wonderful specials like this one are not shown anymore......what lessons they teach! I would like to finish my story below. Last month my son sent me a video of him standing up and walking 10mt with only the aid of a pair of croutes. He has a long way to go yet & a lot of hard work still to do, but this year we got our Xmas MIRACLE. Thank you so very much for find this little tree again and this close to Xmas. God Bless you.

The little girl gets a Christmas tree AND a gift, the ability to walk again!
She'll receive her other gifts later, when her parents are able to get to the village after the snow is cleared out.
I love the beautiful song performed by Roberta Flack, "To Love and Be Loved." I wish it were available on cd or for download.
It was released on vinyl as a tie-in to this cartoon, but I suspect the record was only meant to be sent out to certain people, or perhaps TV and radio stations as a promo single, because it was never released publicly.
They need more of these cartoons, these are actually concerned as family friendly. I like family friendly cartoons.

2018 - MERRY CHRISTMAS BOB HERSHEY - I can't thank you enough for making this available. Such a positive message about Love, Friendship and HOPE. I had, largely, remembered this special. However, I had forgotten that the little girl's legs are healed on Christmas morning, sooner than expected.

It aired sometime in the late '80s. My mother recorded it for me and I watched it about ten thousand times. :)
It's too bad that the song "To Love and be Loved" was never released to a CD, I really liked that song even when I was a kid, I've never forgot it.
The turtle's song ("Tell it to a turtle") was taken from the 1966 Rankin Bass TV Special "The Ballad of Smokey The Bear"!!
Holy moly! I have tried tracking down this movie for years! I only remembered the girl falling out of her wheelchair in the snow with the animals around her so i scrolled through it to find that scene to see if it was the right movie. Was just reading the comments when i came across this one. I didn't realize this Turtle song was in this movie (cuz I scrolled at first) ...we sang this song in music class in grade school! I never realized it was in a movie! Awesome discovering 2 childhood memories in one video! Thank you to the video poster and the Turtle song commenter!❤🐢

I always loved watching this every year when I was little. I was always mystified that they don’t seem to show it on tv any more. Thanks so much for posting it! It fills my heart with joy to see it again. ❤
I remember this special as a little kid in the 1970s. A very sweet production from the DePatie-Freleng studio. And it used a lot of full animation; very different from DFE's usual limited but stylized and thoughtful animation work. The company was experimenting with different graphic styles in its TV specials, such as with the Flip Wilson specials of the same period.
DFE was sold to Marvel Comics and renamed Marvel Productions, and of course Disney now owns Marvel. Which means Disney now owns "The Tiny Tree". The House of Mouse might not even be aware this special even exists.
This might sound crazy, but AT&T might actually have the rights to this now. You see, this film was funded and distributed by Bell System, which was operated by AT&T, and they actually have the original negative still.
I don't have a star on top. Never had. My star is Jesus's star:) Never needed anything else.
Oh the music was just splendid! The second the background orchestra struck up, I was moved into tears! Just touching. Barvo!

I want to thank you sooo very much for posting this. I have been missing this Christmas gem for many years, since my mother died when I was 28 and I could not find the vhs tapes of our Christmas shows from my childhood. I have a 7 year old son, so now he can see this wonderful story too. My heart is bursting with joy! I cannot wait to show it to him when he wakes up. He is sick, so maybe this will perk him up. I wonder if you have ever heard of these wonderful places. They are in a metropolis known as Memphis, and the name of these two places for you to take him are Le Bonheur, a place that I had been in, and right next door is St. Jude, a facility for children with cancer. Both of these wonderful places can help your son. I hope your son will recover by Christmas. Bless the little lamb. I hope he gets well by then, if not sooner. I saw this movie in 1988 or 89. My mom had it on video tape and I always remembered the song by Roberta Flack when the little girl met the tiny tree. I watched this movie a thousand times just for the song. Too bad it is only a score for the cartoon and never recorded...that I know of. Thanks for the upload. :)

I love this video. I had a copy made from tv years ago. But, it was a VHS copy and very poor quality. I wish depatie/freleng would release this on DVD. Thank you for putting it out here! ❤️
Sadly Depatie/Freleng is long defunct. They were acquired by Marvel of all things, and through years of acquisitions, mergers, and buy-outs, who knows who owns their name now. I heard that AT&T owns the original negative to this film, and I’m hopeful that they will make it public someday.

I love collecting any kind of used blank tape, cause you never know what ya might find.. old TV shows, etc.. but when people donate old tapes to Goodwill etc, they pick out the home recorded tapes and throw them away, and just keep the store bought movies to sell... they have destroyed tons of rare recordings people have made. Don't ever donate your tapes there! people like me collect them! I'm sure there's many TV treasures left to be discovered!! always keep your master tapes after you put them to DVDs, cause discs will rot away over time!
I agree. I had lots of tapes I had recorded from early 2000's of Cartoon Network and wished I hadn't thrown them away but my parents made me. I wished I had just told them no and kept them somewhere they wouldn't have known.
I also wish it could be released on DVD. Heres hoping.

I remember being a little kid back in the early 1980s and getting the weekly TV guide that came in the newspaper on Sundays and marking everything down in red crayon that was a Christmas show that came on during the week and watching it later.. I believe I saw this once as a young kid but watching it now brings back a lot of memories 😅👍🏽😃

There seems to be two versions of the special someone noticed elsewhere.
The narrator is Buddy Ebsen, an amazing dancer and star during the Golden Age of Hollywood; but most well known as Jeb in "The Beverly Hillbillies".

The song was never released anywhere. It can only be found in this Christmas special.
It's pretty noticeable at the very end as you'll see the Bell logo show up. I only thought what they could do is try sticking this on U-Verse through their VOD service if that's the best they could manage.

20:33- Am I the only one who noticed that they left her wheelchair at the window, across the room from her bed? Her parents don't seem to pay that much attention her, letting her go outside by herself and all that, and not even moving her wheelchair closer to her bed if she has to go potty in the middle of the night. Good thing she's got the woodland critters looking out for her.
