"I got the shotgun, you got the briefcase
It's all in the game though right?"
One of the greatest lines in TV history.
Amazing. So memorable. That look in that smug, piece of shit lawyer’s face when he said that 😂
W and S the questions Levy was asking at that point were purely about character. Objections could have been made by the DA before Levy anyway. But your missing the main point....who the judge was and what the charge was...it was the man who killed a state’s witness in front of the very judge who oversaw the states witness case. He wasn’t going to give Levy ANY love so it made ZERO difference. Remember Levy looked to the judge and he just shrugged his shoulders at him. Levy LOVED him some Omar haha
The 2nd season is criminally hated on. Most people just didn’t get it. Frank was an amazing, deep character....

@@deanmarr785 I think season 4 is the *best* season, but I'm not sure I'd call it my favorite just because of how fucking depressing it is. Season 1 is still probably my favorite, but season 4 is probably the single best season of television ever made.
"There are two kinds of people in the world. People that profess that The Wire is one of the best shows ever made, and people that profess that The Wire is absolutely the best show ever made."
The Wire taught me to never trust the Oscars or the Golden Globes again.

Andre Royo (Bubbles) totally deserved an Emmy. He had the most fascinating character development of everyone on that show.

This show is among the top 3 best shows of all of time. It's four seasons of fantastic storytelling with seasons 3 & 4 being two of the best seasons of television in history. It was on pace to become the greatest show of all time. Then...…..season 5 came and completely shit the bed. I get they were going for a deep meta observation of the news and sensationalism, but they completely overthought themselves. It went against everything you had built up to that point and sticks out horribly. The season finale was good, but it just left a bitter taste in my mouth after the disappointing season. I will just pretend the show ended after season 4 from now on.
I just started watching and i'm here for comments
@@AwesomeNightman a smart ass pawn
The main character of this show is definitely not McNulty. It's the city of Baltimore
aaronbobaron thank you, I feel like if you don’t understand that concept, then the show will fly over your head
@@kahlilpittman8404 i read that comment so often and it's the most annoying thing to make you sound smart.
While yes, it's true, the city of Baltimore is in a way the main character, cause that's what the show is about, there is no denieing that Jimmy is the traditional MC. (When the actor had time) he was the center of the main plot threads, he is the focus of the first and last scene of the show, Dominik West is the only actor who isn't listed alphabetically in the opening, but he's first and so on...
And when you introduce someone to the show it makes sense to name them a traditional MC.
Jamaleum he was in and out in season two and was a mere background character in four so try again
@@kahlilpittman8404 Lol there wasn't one episode in S2 where he doesn't appear.* And for S4, he wanted to spend more time with his family in the UK and asked the writing team to give him few scenes. That's why he took such a step back. Still amazing though how good S4 is despite the absence of the main character for most of it. ;)
*SOURCE: The Wire Wiki page from McNulty.
Jamaleum he’s not the main character is it that hard to understand? Or maybe it is. This is not just some typical drama show with raving plot line. Simon wanted to create a show that depicts life in Baltimore. McNulty is a representation of a unique minority of people in the world. Not to mention you contradicted yourself, how can he be a main character if he’s not featured much in a season. And he did not appear every episode, look it up
The Wire is the best show I've ever seen. And I have seen a lot of TV shows, including Breaking Bad, The Sopranos, Mad Men, Six Feet Under, Game of Thrones, etc.
six feet under is disgustingly underrated

The only people who say that The Wire isn't a masterpiece and one of the best things ever shown on TV are people who haven't seen The Wire.
I'd almost agree, but I'm in Poland and everyone was on Breaking Bad's nuts, I brought up The Wire and people were all "it's too slow".
I was thinking about watching BB but I still haven't because of that "review".
DJ Lawrence Breaking Bad is good, but don't go into it expecting The Wire 2.0. It's a different type of show. The only real similarities are that they are both dramas and drugs play a prominent role in them.
Oh, and The Wire *is* better than BB. That's not fair to BB though, because you shouldn't compare other shows to The Wire.
I just finished episode 5 of season 1.... I’m done. It’s the most boring show I’ve ever seen. My only conclusion is it was good at its time.. cuz nothing has happened yet and I’ve watched 5 episodes. Automatically not a 10/10 as everyone claims. This show is not smart... it’s just boring. I really wanted a new great show. I’ve seen every show in the book. This was by far the most overrated, boring, terrible characters, ugh the cops are horrible. I like the thugs. But fuck it. I’m done

Season 2 ended up being my favorite because I loved how it showed the drugs coming into the city. The show was about corruption on every level and never placed the blame solely on cops or gangsters. Truly ahead of its time.
If you don't like season 2 you don't get the show!
IMO Season 2 just didn't have the flawless pacing 1 had. S1 spoiled a lot of viewers.

The Wire is a difficult show to really get into. I'm at episode ten, and I'm really starting to understand why people love this show so much. It's very realistic, it just feels so real, and the characters are getting really interesting. Breaking Bad is still my favorite show, but I don't find it impossible that The Wire could possibly dethrone it. It's a really mature show, and it demands a mature, patient audience. Don't give up!
So??
So??
So??
Season 2 was amazing, I loved seeing an entirely different side to that world.
and my favorite character was Bunny Colvin, followed closely by Bunk.
I liked Bunny Colvin because he was REAL police (like McNulty and Freemon and the Major Crimes group). He wasn't afraid to actually try something DIFFERENT. The interesting thing is, we actually meet Colvin in season 2, and learn his motivations for legalizing drugs. A little boy is shot and killed during Boadie's gunfight, and Colvin arrives on the scene, visibly shaken, telling his fellow officers how their approach to the "game" is bullshit and gets them nowhere. Look at all the good that came from "Hampsterdam". If you re-watch season 3 you really do see that in the end, Colvin did a lot more good than harm by legalizing drugs in a certain "zone".
Sad how this show never blew up because it was truly GENIUS!
Is it really that surprising? The show consists of 60-70% black people, do you knokw white America would watch that?
Reagan Li that is the most small-minded thinking I’ve ever seen. And to say the wire is “mostly about black people” means you missed the whole point of the show. It wasn’t about black people....it was about Baltimore. You miss season 2 or you just racist?
Reagan Li
Lol what a stupid comment.
Philly Philly LII ur mad bc it’s true
Jeremy Jahns- How about a review of 'The Sopranos'?
I've been spamming his channel for so long just to try to get him to review that show, along with "Six Feet Under" but, i guess i'm not cool enough for him to notice :(
Yeah. Six Feet Under is amazing, one of the best dramas. But you're getting your hopes up with a SFU review. I can see the Sopranos happening , cuz it was popular but not SFU.
Still no luck :(
The wire is a show I recommend watching all the way through at least four times, it's better each time, same thing with the sopranos.
You notice things that you didn't know to pay attention to the first time.
Im late asf.. just now watching this shit. Season 1 was amazing but Im on Season2 now and I have a hard time getting through it. This whole setting on the docks is boring as hell and I wana punch Ziggy dead in his shit - that kid is annoying af. Got half a mind to just skip to Season3 tbh.
I can't explain how happy I was watching the final episode of The Wire. I just sat there smiling like my whole life had been fulfilled. Its was such a great feeling, makes me happy just thinking about it.
I would say the series is less about the war on drugs, but about Baltimore and how it is fundamentally corrupt in all of it's institutions. Wether it be the top brass in it's law enforcement, the unions, the mayor's office, the schools, or the local media, each season shows a different aspect of what makes Baltimore such a mess. Yes the drug dealers are the core issue but it is these failing institutions that allow the problem to continue. Tommy Carcetti is a perfect example of what the show is trying to show us. We are shown Carcetti to be a glimmer of light and hope in season 4 is corrupted over time and allows Baltimore to turn him into just another politician trying to seek more power. Each season is a masterpiece. Season 4 specifically is perfect. Watching a group of middle school boys turn from care free children and mostly end up as broken people was heartbreaking. Season 5 is heavily criticized but I believe that criticism is not earned. Yes the show sort of jumps the shark in the fifth season but it shows the characters we grew to love pass the torch to the next generation and gives us closure. If you have not watched the Wire then watch it now, it is the perfect television show and it's new HD release is aging like fine wine.
03:52 "OMAR - HE COMING YO!!"
LMAO!! That was so on point, I had to rewind it to make sure it was Jeremy. Classic!
Saying that it is cops versus drug dealers is so undersalling the show. It's so much more. There's family and bureaucracy. There's complex morality on both sides. Characters (emphesis on plural) actually evolve durning the show, not like in some other shows (BB).
I would say that The Wire is Godfather of tv shows. Masterfully writen and executed.
Fuck off, did you SEE Walter,Jesse, Skylar evolve?! But other than that I agree. Use Game Of Thrones next time for that particular comparison
Sure they had their hardships to which they reacted differently, but for character arc to take place given character has to be different from when he/she started.
Jesse still thouth he's better than Walt. Skylar was still bossing him around. The circumstances changed, but not their mentality.
Take Han. Started out as a scumbag that's interested only in cash, ended up as a rebel. That's evolution.
Not: "walt, master card is the one we don't use" to "you have only 5 min". Where's the change? Both of them accted acordingly to how they were presented in the first episodes.
As for Walt, he's charm neve laid in evolution but ambiguity and because of that you can't say he changed, which writers forgot about with him admiting he cooked because he liked it, although that was pretty aparent early on anyway.
It's a fucking shame that such well writen character ended up with such pathetic supporting characters.
MadBunnyRabbit If you seriously think that Walter White never evolved, try really hard to convince me that Walter White from the Pilot would do the same things that Walter White from Season 5 did.
HoakyHenry Well, what Walter from season 5 did? He didn't hire assassins, he rescued Jessie, apologised to Skyler and was pretty beat up by Hanks death, also he revealed his bureal place. Not to mention that he left a considerable amount of cash for his family, which was soppoused to be the plan all along.
You see, the problem is that him becoming more ruthles isn't evolution. In the pilot when fire trucks were going to the fire, he at first aimed twords the road. That was his FIRST instinct. Not to mention, that in the pilot he scored his first kill and he actualy hopped for double kill, because he knew what he was doing.
The great thing about Walters character is the ambiguity of Heisenbergs persona. A lot of people I talked with claimed he's turning more and more into him as the show goes. But that's not true. Sure you can interprete it that way, but you can just as well, in every situation there was in the series (maybe with the exception of 'get out of my territory'), say he was doing it for good reason. If he didn't let the heroin chick die, they would both kill themself before they got a chance to spend the money. With the kid situation? Sure it was extream, but that was the best he could figure out to stay alive (just like in the pilot). Also keep in mind that he's not stupid, he knew what he was doing. Mike? A reasonable decision. Eventualy someone would rat out and Mike wouldn't just be ok with his friends dead.
Again, the only thing that realy changed (and not that deep into the series) is that he became more ruthles. Having that in mind, he still didn't want to kill Hank, he would rather go to jail, the only freaking time he actually would rather go to jail.
All that, those were just brief moments in a fairly long series. You have a lot of family fudes (especialy with Skyler) where his aproche bearly changed.
So yeah, I don't see there much of a character ark.
Not like in The Wire. A lot of people there changed their atitude, twords work, even twords gangsters and life. While poor chemistry teacher killed his first victime in a despreat atempt to save his life in a pilot and you are saying me that doing a masacre of some hired guns at the end of the season is somehow different? More brutal, sure, but mentaly, nothing changed.
Although I must say, his admiting that he liked being someone was a nice atempt to snick in some self realisation, but it felt realy forced and out of place and yet again he comforted to Skyler opinion and was apologetic about it, just like in the pilot.
Honestly, I don't expect you to change your mind, but I have to ask you one very important question. How many regular people, would actually refuse a good job with health benifits and decide too cook meth? Hm? Think about that. That adrenaline rush going with it, it was all about that from the begining, he wanted that, because if he wanted a good treatment and some cash for family, he could have just as well accept the job.
MadBunnyRabbit Actually, what you just said is what makes Walter White's character development so great. He had been inwardly suppressing Heisenberg all his life, but as the show progresses, he allows it to take over. Even though he always had it in him, he still changed because of the fact that he was letting the Heisenberg part of him to take over outwardly. His ruthlessness wasn't the part of him that he let out. It was a combination of his ego, ambition, and taking chances, whether they would harm him, or were immoral.
It's really fascinating watching this kind of person. He's a person who hadn't had enough thrill in life, but had slowly been building up his resentment and rage at having been ignored for his talents, and he took the chance to change all that.
When he's talking to Skyler in the finale, this certain line he says fully captures this evolution: "I did it for myself. I liked it. I was good at it. I was alive."
I don't think I'll change your mind either, and I'm not really trying to either, but I hope you take it into account.
When the creator of The Wire (David Simon) was asked to describe his show in one sentence he replied; "The Wire is a treatise on the end of the American empire." The Sopranos and Breaking Bad were top notch but they don`t hold a candle to the very best.
I know I'm replying to a 6 year old comment (😅), but to be fair, BB & 'The Wire' are both great television landmarks, but operate under different motifs & formulas. Personally, I still prefer 'Breaking Bad' because post season 1, it was almost as if *every* episode was explosive in one way or another whilst laying the foundation down for future eps.
@@TheInsaniacGuy
It's a completely different thing, of course.
The thing is both shows are "as good as it gets" level of TV. But The Wire is a masterful examination of the reality of our society on top of being amazing TV. It does take the whole thing to another level.
What got to me more than Omar's surprise death was the way that episode ended with the coroner getting his to tag mixed up with some other dude. It reiterated the fact that, as big as Omar was in that world, to the rest of the world, on that news report, Omar was just "a black man who got gunned down in a candy store".
Good observation; somehow, that scene gave me the false impression that he might have faked his death.

Man I love the wire big time. I recently watched season 5 again, n it still amazes me. The wire is so layered. Brilliant writing. I feel the beauty of the show is the writers aren't out to please anyone but tell a story. They didn't put episode recaps or simpler dialogues or cliffhanger endin to each episode. They were like, Dude if u want action, u have to be patient
The Shield another underrated masterpiece...a review please Jeremy.
I have seen a silly number of shows and for me this hit the nail on the head. The Wire is the definitive Cop based drama! The writing, acting, action, scenery and message were all absolutely on point and the fact it didn’t get the major honour recognition it deserved is shocking.
Great review! The Wire is truely one of the greatest TV series every made. So underrated or unheard of.
I JUST finished the wire, dont think i was gonna like a show better than breaking bad im a little younger but holy shit this show is probably the greatest thing ive ever experienced
@anonymous 67 it doesnt pick up how you probably imagine its "supposed to" its better and better every season
@anonymous 67 yeah theres actually a lot of shit goin on in season 2 with the greeks and the fizzling of confidence in teamwork in homicide, this season is like the rest by showing why these characters are the way they are, they perfectly flesh out the lives of these people making you feel like they are real people (which was never done before in a show til the wire)
you can say its useless dialogue but isnt that the mundane part of life and the best parts of the shows and movies we watch too? godfather was boring as fuck to me but everyone says its a masterpiece

I’m about to start watching The Wire my first time. 10 years after your review 20 years from the show released.
The Wire was filmed on film right? The Sopranos is coming out on Blu-ray so hopefully we get this (and Six Feet Under) released next.
Check out Oz! That's an HBO classic!
yes!!
Has anyone noticed how TV is fucking incredible these days and most films suck? Breaking bad, game of thrones, the wire, boardwalk empire we are spoilt for superb choice!!! And what's a good movie these days fucking gravity? TV rules at the moment, what a time to live in.
Totally. There's only so much you can tell about the characters in 2-3 hours, but with TV the possibilities are endless because there's way more time to do stuff.
Yea idk what's up with that...just a phase. Lol my grandmother is from the glamor days of Hollywood. I keep telling her shes missing out on the best material ever written but she hates cussing sex drugs violence. ...basically anything modern film lol
***** if you can recommend a good film that has been released recently i would be grateful haha :)
***** alot of them movies are not very current. There is a reason however that tv has improved so dramatically and that's because the people who where writing movies have shifted to tv. Personally I think it's arcing storyline, episodic tv is almost gone out of fashion. The best way to engage people is to invest them in a concept or idea and then drip feed them and cliffhanger hanger them and tie it off in a little bow at the end. Characters are more iconic than shows now, emotional manipulation with a sympathic characters or admiration with strong characters. The more phycology they employ in tv the better it will get. It'll dumb down again, all media's have a peak of creativity and a lull, be it literature, movie, tv, theatre or even video games. The key to staying sharp is all in the psychology, keeping as many people as you can invested. As conflict, if you can get your audience to bicker on a plot line or character, an us v them attitude. Story telling is basically manipulation of the emotional state of the viewer or reader.
I think I babbled long enough. :)
You can thank The Soprano's for all the great tv dramas we have now.
Thank you for the honest review. I'm not even exaggerating, the show is impeccable. The writing is perfect. After watching it, I've been real picky with what I watch. The last show I REALLY enjoyed after watching it is snowfall.

I loved it because Omar was still agitating Marlo even after he died. His legacy lived on.

tknick90 i am not blaming you. "spoil alert" would help but it is okay its not the end of the world.. i cant watch it now and its not a big of a deal.. i shouldnt have read the comments either but its okay.
My fav is when McNulty and Bunk find the bullet in the fridge door, "...f_ck, f_ck, f_ck-ity, f_ck, f_ck..." Totally ad-libbed, poetic verse using one word, brilliant.
The Wire is hands down the best show i've ever seen, Omar was the most amazing character too, its writing is unbeatable and for me The Soprano's is a distant second.
It's the best show I've ever seen hands down, I never understood how it never got any major awards, even though it got such great reviews, it makes no sense.
Because it was too smart for it's own good.

YOU WILL NEVER STOP TALKING ABOUT BREAKING BAD OR THE WIRE!
I just watched the wire for the first time. One of my best friends who passed away years ago I’m in the show was still being aired on TV. He used to talk about how good it was and maybe want to watch it. Sopranos and the wire are my two favorites.
Can you review The Shield pls? It was such a good series and most people don't' know it and I think that Breaking Bad fans would definitely love it.
The Wire will always be better than any drama and definitely any cop show any network will put out. It wasn't gun shooting and action packed. It was real police work and drama. And showed the various levels of workings within s major American City... Best series in the history of television
Also Season 2 was great!
The majority of that statement is spot on, but the sopranos probably has the edge over it as best drama due to its revolutionary influence
The wire is being remastered in HD
Okay, so I listened to your review on this series and when I got HBO I decided to give it a try. Holy shit. You are not wrong in that this is some of the very best TV writing...ever. Every plot line is so tight, even that weird season 2, every character is fleshed out and real. The bullshit of being police is actually addressed, not just the day to day shit but how hard it is for the career cops to give up being cops. How hard it is for the people in the drug trade to leave it, and the ways that they try to do it--and what I appreciate the most about that is they take time to show certain characters having personal crises about their involvement in that world. I'm so glad you reviewed this, I might never have watched it otherwise!
U turn in weeds is the biggest boba fetted moment in all of television
Currently watching the wire. Just started season 3.
My top 5 would probably be:
1. The Sopranos
2. Breaking bad
3. The wire (don't get pissed that it isn't above BB, I'm not even done watching it and it's this high so that definitely shows how good it is)
4. Game of thrones
5. True detective (I don't give a shit that season 2 wasn't that good, because it will never take anything away from season 1. Season 1 is my all time favorite season of television.
no Firefly?
fargo's excellent but season 2 was a step down from season 1 it's not in my personal top 5 because I really wanna see what they do with season 3 next year what i've heard about it so far it's gonna be very unique.
BB should be #1 in my opinion
+Killboy520 I haven't seen it yet in dying to though
+Ramsey Brown it's on Netflix it's super good
Should have mentioned the fact that some of the cops on the show were actual B-More cops..like 'Jay Landsman', who was played by Jay Landsman.
Actually Jay Landsman the cop played Lieutenant Mello (the mustache dude who was Bunny Colvin's second in command). Jay in the show was played by Delaney Williams
Jay Landsman auditioned for the part of Jay Landsman but he lost to Delaney Williams.
Exactly the same thing happened to me. First I watched Breaking Bad, loved it, thought it was great. Then started watching The Wire which completely destroyed BB for me forever.
Breaking Bad does have better written characters(especially Walter White), but honestly the two shows are so drastically different to the point where a comparison can never be made
halochampion342 Comparison can be easily made, Breaking Bad is a fake show written by people who know nothing about the drug game whatsoever. It's great but it's a fantasy. The Wire on the other hand is brutally realistic, beautifully written, perfectly acted and marvelously shot. If you don't agree I would argue that you completely misunderstood The Wire.
Breaking Bad isnt about the drug trade, its about the complexities of human morality. Just because it has drugs in it does not mean that the main point of the show. And The Wire was "perfectly acted"? Even you know thats not true it had its fair share of weak performances while Breaking Bad has the likes of Bryan Cranston and Giancarlo Esposito. I understand that the wire is an analysis of modern society, I also understand that Breaking Bad is not, sure it has elements of that but it was never meant to be an in depth look like The Wire. Breaking Bad is purely a morality tale and a brilliant one to. There are really no similarities between them because they are trying to accomplish different things, if you think that just because they both have drugs means that they are comparable than it is clear that you never truly understood either show
halochampion342 Complexities of human morality? Complexities...of human...morality...
Yes......
Omar, Weebay, Stringer and Bodie were my favorite characters. I was angry when Omar died but I literally teared up when Bodie died. But Snoop was THE best death not even an ounce of fear, she went out like a champ.
Snoop: "How's my hair?"
Michael : " You look good girl"
Jeremy the show is in high definition now you should really watch it again! I've never appreciated the best show ever made as much as I do in glorious HD
Season 2 is the most important season
Totally agree mate-the true kingpins are exposed and the tragedy is the most palpable with Franks death. Frank Sbotka is America personified. Greatest TV ever made!
Bryant Gilliam I too will have to agree.
So Jeremy which character is the one that gets Boba Fetted; Wallace? D'Angelo? Stringer? Bodie? Prop Joe? Frank Sobotka?
Christopher Navarro I presume Omar?
Christopher Navarro I would say Omar, I was pissed how he went out but it made sense. Stringer too but that was actually a pretty cool lead up in the building chase.
Well I agree that Omar got Boba Fetted, although he did make it the end of season 5. Stringer Bell had it coming; the betrayal of Brother Mouzone, his double dealing with Omar, and the producer David Simon said in an interview that Stringer had to go since he was trying to reform "the game". The most tragic death in my opinion was Boadie Broadus' demise, his passing was also heroic for he tried to fight his way out and went out like a warrior.
Omar got Boba Fetted because there wasn't any closure or reason for his death, it just happened and it kinda pissed a lot of us off because we would have rather seen him get killed in a justifable or reasonable way. But like Jeremy said, we expected it to happen and it doesn't piss us off completely but we still don't like the fact that it happened. Stringer had to go, he was a dick & Wallace wasn't a significant or important character, plus he snitched so that was a reason for him to die. Only ones that got Boba Fetted in my opinion were Omar & De'Angelo.
My vote for Boba Fett goes with Boadie Broadus because he was loyal to 'the game'. Omar had death coming either way, those who rob drug dealers are bound to make fearsome enemies. Aforesaid enemies that sooner rather than later will successfully kill him (Omar).
i just finished it and loved it. i think my favorite characters were, obviously mcnulty and bunk..but i think i liked brother mazone and prez in s4. s4 was fucking amazing.
The scene of Snoop buying the nail gun is what got me into the show. It is the first scene in season 4 so i was late to the party but man i was hooked
Yes. Yes. Yes. Every single time I start thinking about The Wire, it leads to either re-reading the oral history or re-watching the series. It's absolute TV perfection.
Season 4 is the best followed closely by season 3.
Breaking Bad is the best show I've ever seen but I haven't seen the Wire yet
Did you watch it?
Everybody complain about The Wire's Season 5, then why it's the best show ever? all seasons of Breaking Bad are pure masterpiece, then why people say The Wire is better if the season 2 is out of place and the last season is mediocre?
Top vilain 1)the greek 2)Marlo 3)Clay Davis but the one everyone hate is Naymond's mom!
I finished this whole series yesterday. All thanks to you. Jeremy-you are the best!
omg i just looked up wire reviews at random and was pleased one of my fav reviewers did this series. awesome
The Wire is awesome. And yes Snoop is scary. In the opening theme season 4 you see her sitting alone in a park at night on a swing and she looks freaky. Omar is awesome!
Review the Sopranos
The Wire is the definitive cop show, and The Sopranos is the definitive mafia show. how about a review? ;)
Avon's barksdale -'you either play the game or get played!'
Omar- 'you come for the king ,you better not miss him!'
I was born and raised in Baltimore met snoop alot and that's how she talks so funny u got it right how you did it 😂
Can you review the Sopranos?
The wire is 100x better than breaking bad. How does breaking bad have more Emmy's than the wire. I like breaking bad but it shows a lot of unrealistic shit. The wire is realistic
And that determines a good or a bad show? How realistic it is...
***** the wire has a better twist than breaking bad. Breaking bad is good but the wire is better
jonathan fanfan Well, i haven't watched the wire to the end, just the first two seasons, it will be interesting to figure out for myself whether i share your opinion. I did love Breaking Bad, but it's not my all time favorite show, that would be The Office, which can't really be compared seeing as it is a completely different style and type of show.
I agree Jonathan the wire is better. It's not as instantly likeable first. But when you get that rhythm and watch it again you realise it is better. Every single character in the wire is great. Breaking bad had some annoying characters like skyler, Marie and Saul.
Having seen both shows I still don't understand how people can compare the two. It's not even close to how good The Wire is.
Thumbs up if Season 4 was the best season !
Than you would like season 5 , because he is character in that season
matthew L whatcha make of season 4 now?
Jeremy I'm so glad you did a review The Wire! I just finished it and was gonna recommend you watch it. So glad you already have. I found it interesting that by the 2nd season there is no soundtrack. Which makes the show even more realistic. I don't have a big enough ego to say what's the best show ever put on TV but The Wire is definitely one of them.
"Sean Price will belittle your squad / like Omar vs Little Kennard" RIP Sean P
Jerrreemmmmy should watch Twin Peaks and do a review on it!
Can u do a review for the sopranos
I never really liked cop shows like Law and Order and NCIS,CSI, and all those things. But this show is fantastic; pretty much what cop shows should be i.e. not just a bunch of boring perfect cops doing what needs to be done to boring criminals in what is almost always the same story every week. Too bad not many people know or care about the show.
agree totally
best show ever
Its available on Blu-ray now, would love to see your review of it.
And it would give you an excuse to watch it all again.
The Wire is not a cop show. It's a Baltimore show. It's a life show. It's a perfection show.
Best show EVER!!
i honestly have a three way tie for my favorite show
Breaking Bad The Wire and Dragon Ball Z
Season two was out of place, but I really liked it.
+Aj Koorstra Not really, because it's important to know where the drugs come in from overseas and how they get to the dealers.
Not out of place, but a little off in a tangent. It shows you that there are people other than just poor black folks dealing drugs.
A huge tangent, that would have been forgivable if the show didn't just completely undermine it by going right back to season 1 characters and style for the entire rest of the show. It was out of place because they literally gave it no place, they disrespected the season due to ratings and it felt disrespected and out of place after that. You can't hide that in writing, even if you try. The real world fucks up art sometimes.
Season two was my favorite season. I felt a tremendous empathy for these working guys getting screwed at every turn, trying to get out of their hopeless situation by 'breaking bad', and winding up dead or in prison. And the gang of eastern Europeans lead by 'The Greek' was such an interesting adversary.
I was struggling to watch the season by the time I tought it will pick up, I was already on episode 10. Shieeeeeet.
Yep, Jeremy, you right! The best show in terms of all those points you touched on. I was waiting to hear you whistling during a fade to black of "pop goes the weasle". Great work as always! Keep them coming!
i felt the same way with season 1 but gets better and better as seasons pass by. Season 4 is the best though. Dont give up, you will get used to the style of the show as you watch.
Review the sopranos @JeremyJahns !
The Wire is the GOAT
The Wire was one of the best shows on television period! I almost cried went it went of the air. It deserved multiple emmys!
You come at the king, you best not miss.
Reading the debates on which character is the best, the scariest, etc. The fact is that literally all the characters are spot on and that why the show is what it is, really one of the best of all time. The realism of the characters is just incredible. Every one of them feels like a real person, not a second of an doubt in theirs performance. My only resentment goes toward the character of the Mayor Carcetti. I do not know which actor should took this role but Aidan Gillen is just not the right man for this role. He just did not convinced me that he could be real-life Mayor. But as for all the other goes, spot on! Really incredibly TV series! Must watch 1000%! Cheers from Slovenia!
Series ended really shitty to me
