      @@MrOrangeman18 set the temperature at 300 degree C and airflow at 50, press CH1 and CH3 altogether and the unit shows CAL sign. 350°C output at 500°C setting is a rather large gap imo. 50°C wouldn’t bother me too but much 150°C doesn’t give me much confidence.

      I tried measuring a few different ways, but still got nowhere near 500C. Oddly, the AC current waveform shows that the heater isn't at 100% so likely a calibration or firmware issue.

    I get the same light flickering issue on the 861DW, but it's down to the type of light. Those high power factor ones that have minimal input capacitance and basic output current regulation are the most susceptible to cycle-by-cycle mains voltage drops. Maybe capacitive dropper supplies too, though I don't use them. My DIY constant current driver for the desk light, and larger switchmode supplies are unaffected.

      You can order directly from Atten.eu or from AliExpress. The price is somewhere between the Best and Quick 861DW prices. It does look like Atten have changed a few bits since Rossman's video came out which has bumped the price by £10-20 (but some of that could be the fluctuating shipping costs)

    Can you measure above 350 degrees from other stations with that thermocouple? I’ve seen issues with thermocouples not being about to read above certain temperatures, so suspect that the issue is the thermocouple reading not the heating.

    Another Atten that I have not yet seen comprehensively reviewed is the GT-8102, which borrows more of its design from the JBC JTSE. The cheapest I've ever seen one is maybe around $400 to $560 USD, but it appears to be rated at 1000W and with a more compact form factor handle.

    I just ordered a BST863 myself, but it does not heat up when I take it out of the holder. I assume the magnetic sensor in the handle is faulty? It just shows it is permanent in sleeping mode, whether it is in the holder or not.

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics  4 роки тому +1

      Indeed sounds like the sensor isn't working. The base should be strongly magnetic where the handpiece sits. Also it's worth noting that if it's powered up and the handpiece isn't in the stand, it won't let you use it at all (just stays in sleep)

    Thanks, just discovered your channel and I'll start following you!
    Cannot remember if I posted this comment already (maybe it's in an approval queue?) or whether I didn't - or got lost in the Ethernet. Thanks for the review. I am choosing between Quick 861DW and 861DE. The only difference is the airflow (120L/m vs 200L/m) and the power (1000W vs 1200W). Yes, the spinning up and down of the station is annoying but besides that I wouldn't mind a little more juice for using with larger BGA nozzles. My only concern is: the DE version - as the X version - only goes down to 6L/m as a minimum. Do you see that as an issue for working on smaller pieces? I think it should be fine but it'd be great to have feedback from an owner of a similarly specc'd machine!
    Re. the 150 degrees inaccuracy at 500 degrees, well, I hope it's a calibration/FW/unit issue as I am not sure I would be happy to pay for a machine that doesn't do what it says on the tin. That said, when do you use 500 degrees? :)

    • @sdgelectronics
      @sdgelectronics  2 роки тому +1

      I think you'd be OK with the 6 l/m minimum. Once you add a nozzle, the air flow will drop anyway

      1.3kW is all of 5A on the UK's nominally-230V-but-really-240V-or-more mains supply, and I wouldn't expect that to affect the mains voltage to such an extent that it's visible in the lighting (even connected to the same socket), considering UK outlets are rated for 13A and are typically on 32A circuits.
      I regularly switch 2kW heating loads and have never seen any effects with the lights (on the same outlet, circuit, or otherwise).
      The only time I tend to see brief dimming of lights is when inductive loads switch on or off, though I guess there could be an inductive effect happening here? :S
      I shall await the update video with interest! :)
