Hi guys! Sorry about the double upload today! I blame baby brain! Hope you enjoy this street food tour- would you eat that fish??
Donal Skehan Would be rude not to try and the chef preparing it looks like he knows his stuff, and you've got Barts recommendation. A bit of Dutch courage from part 2 would smooth things along a bit. Would be good to see more videos like this from you two. Thankyou Donal and Bart.k
Nope, sorry..
Born and raised in Holland but thanks I'll pass :))
Yes! I would love to eat it! There again, I've lived in Japan for nigh on the past 30 years and eating things raw (especially fish) is by now a very normal thing for me.
I love Dutch pancakes and apple pies , the best but never tried that fish
I love watching Donals videos because he’s always so happy and excited and it makes me feel the same!
Glad I could take you around Donal! See you soon. Cheers, Bart
You're really fun! What a nice guy.
One of the best things anyone can do to learn about a city is a Food Tour. I think you learn the most about a city's history by knowing about their food! Amsterdam is one of my all-time favorite places (and the Netherlands in general), so I'm super excited to see this!
Totally agree!
❤❤❤
FireCracker3240 As a Dutchy that'd nice to hear! but I wonder, what makes Holland and Amsterdam so great according to you? Compared to other countries I suffer from not thinking Holland is that great as a holiday destination. Like low selfesteem compared to countries like Italy, France etc. Why are we attractive to outsiders, I really wonder... 😊
Ho Oldskool Thank you for the comment! I'm happy to give my opinion. 😊 As an American, there aren't too many places I can imagine myself living outside of my own country. Holland is one of the very, very few places I can see being happy living. One thing I love about your country is how beautiful it is. It's lush and green, with beautiful canals, rivers & streams and windmills, and of course, the flowers. You have a change of seasons which, living in the mid-Atlantic states of the US (Pennsylvania) is something I'm used to and enjoy (I love Autumn and winter snow, on occasion). Your architecture is absolutely stunning (the Italian Renaissance & Dutch Baroque is exquisite). I love the history, especially with the arts, with some of the world's greatest painters & masters hailing from your country. The quality of life is great, and you guys rate high on the happiness factor (on a worldwide level, I think you rank 6th). And the food... most of it is wonderful, though the herring delicacy might not work for me as I don't like raw fish. lol
As someone who constantly hears bad things about her country, I know it's sometimes easy to overlook the sources that make you proud of your home country. Sometimes, hearing about it from another's point of view helps a bit. 😊
FireCracker3240 What a nice and welcoming answer! Well it's nice to hear your view on it, and to stand still by the beautiful side of Holland because it's easy to take some things for granted if used to. Your reaction make me value my country better and indeed... some things you named are quite special... well that gave my "country confidice" a boost. And you telling about being used to hearing negative things about your own country. Around here America is seen as one of the most exciting countries. As most good entertenmaint comes from your country and the NYC moviesets etc. No need to feel bad about your country hun.. and I agree about the seasonal thing. You know, it's only until recently that I realised that there's many places where it's (almost) one season year round. I knew it but it didnt really get to me. And I realised that it's such a blessing to have the seasons change every three months! It's as if the filmset of life changes everytime with a different look and ambiance. And that's a blessing! They should teach us that kind of things in school, for me to realize it so late in life 😆 Cause it is beautiful indeed... Thank you so much! 😘
Lot of Irish living and working in Amsterdam. I spent three years there decades ago before the crowds. My favourite bites were the satays, the bitterballen and the shwarma.
Hey Donal, I loved watching this video. I am a Dutchy who moved to Ireland and hearing both accents (Bart's Dutch one and your Irish one) in one video brings back a lot of my own memories. I hope you had fun! Amsterdam is a great city.
I loved herring when I studied in Amsterdam! Delicious seafood at any street cart and always with the requisite onions and pickles. Great video man!
Super fun video, Donal! Gotta get back to NL as the last time was before my food enlightenment. Thanks to you and Bart!
Two videos at once!!! Yayyyy!!!
Happy Birthday Donal and I pray that whatever you do today its a good birthday.
Great that you came to the Netherlands! Hope you'll visit Drenthe sometimes! Also very beautiful!
Great to see you enjoying Amsterdam!
Raw herring is EXCELLENT!. I particularly love pickled herring in sour cream with a raw red onion rings sliced thinly to go along with a liter of brown beer or stout. One place I worked at had a German Biergarten across the street which was my hangout after work in summer. It had live German music and very authentic cuisine. I would often get the herring with a sausage plate and black bread (a couple liters then wall 3 blocks to watch our professional hockey team play. That meant more beer and sausages with the obligatory giant pretzel with salt and spicy mustard.
the inlayed herring in different sauces: creamy, paprika (bellpepper) tomato or mustard is a scandanavian thing Denmark Sweden Norway, Germany addapted or imported. In Holland we do inlay also, pickled in vinegar with a red pepper and onions, the more popular version with some sugar or sweetener and of course we have the rollmops that is rolled herring around a gerkin or small cucumber, and then also pickled in sour or sweet sour. The sweet-and-sour is not very sweet, just enough sugar to remove the sharpness of the acid, click for some pictures www.google.com/search?newwindow=1&rlz=1C2CHBF_enPH825PH825&biw=1366&bih=657&tbm=isch&sa=1&ei=rwNyXN3YFbWJr7wPvout0As&q=zure+haring+en+rolmops+geserveerd&oq=zure+haring+en+rolmops+geserveerd&gs_l=img.12...23106.27914..31188...0.0..0.629.6691.5-11......1....1..gws-wiz-img.b-3pkxwMbVM

There are so many turks in Europe you get kebab, Adana kebap, kumpirci and other typical Turkish Street food here already, where I live they even have a lot of Turkish supermarkets and bakeries so no need to go to turkey
YUMMERS.

Hmm, how many times was Donal called English during the filming?
Hi, I'm from the Netherlands! Anyone that likes to exchange foodboxes? Looking for someone from another country (outside Europe) to sent you a typical Dutch foodbox and you can sent me some typical foods from your country. Just seems fun!

Fish #2. I almost VOMIT.
Funny i follow you since the beginning and I'm Dutch
Eat Leaf Rice?
Eet, leef, reis (eat, live travel)!
Dutch Jamie oliver
Im dutch
Ooh kibbeling echt gemist
And, dear visitors of The Netherlands, please mind that the herring is only served with pickles and onions in Amsterdam. In the rest of our country we frown on adding pickles. Blurgh. Distasteful Amsterdam habit.
Why do Americans think that the whole Netherlands is just only Amsterdam
Ahmsterdam
Ik jou van kibbeling
