Jamal, you don’t understand how great this album is. Brian Wilson presents SMiLE will make you change the way you see music forever

Back in the day when people did romantic duets and weren’t trashy! Very classy! Rest In Peace Kenny Rogers. Sheena Easton had a few hits in the 80s, and she did a duet with Prince called “You Got the Look”. Her “Morning Train” was a hit and “For Your Eyes Only” was a James Bond movie theme song.

Another great duet with crossover appeal that came out around the same time in the early 80's and was a massive hit was "You And I" sung by Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle. It went to number 6 or 7 on the pop chart and solidified Eddie Rabbitt's status as a major music star at the time (and was he handsome !). The chemistry between them was undeniable. I also loved her hair.

Sheena was big in the early/mid 80s. Look for her first hits Morning Train, For Your Eyes Only and Almost Over You. Her more sultry songs include Strut and You've Got The Look with Prince. She is Scottish and I believe was in a singing competition in the early 80s and that is how she became famous. Her first hits were from 1981. This song was originally by Bob Seger. Look for his version as well. Bob's best songs include Old Time Rock N Roll, Rambling Man, Still the Same, and Turn the Page. Bob is from Detroit Michigan. I am originally from Michigan and he was a huge concert draw in my state back in the day.

Love Kenny Rogers music from when he was with the First Edition (60's-70's) to his solo career. He was a great story teller in many of his songs like "Coward Of The County" & "The Gambler". He had so many hits "Lucille", "Lady", "Through the Years" etc. He did a lot of duets such as with Kim Carnes "Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer", with Sheena Easton "We've Got Tonight" & with Dolly Parton "Islands In The Stream". He also did quite a few duets with Dottie West.

Sheena is a Scottish singer and had 11 top 20 hits in the U.S. through the eighties. That was more than she had in the UK which is unusual for a British act. In 1984, she adapted a more sexy image through her songs Strut and Sugar Walls which was written by Prince under a pseudonym of Alexander Nevermind. She was also featured in Prince's 1987 hit U Got The Look which is well worth a listen.

You nailed the theme of the song on it's head and why Kenny wanted to record that with Sheena, as he was already well-established as a crossover country-pop superstar while Sheena was just starting to get some success here in the US (she's originally from Scotland) - she had her one & only #1 song on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, "9 To 5 (Morning Train) - had to add the morning train to it's title as it was released at the same time as Dolly Parton's "9 To 5" from her hit movie - and a top 10 smash, the #6 "For Your Eyes Only" from the James Bond movie of the same name.
You wouldn't have thought that the tone and style of their singing voices would have meshed but they proved you could take two singers who were almost different in every style of music and show that you could cover one of the most beautiful love songs. Glad Bob Seger and those associated with the song gave the thumbs up, as this version was the most successful on the Hot 100 Chart, peaking at #2

I’m 53 and I’ve never seen or heard this one either! Awesome! My favorites from Kenny Rogers though, are the hits from The First Edition. Especially “Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In)”. Rock and Roll Kenny Rogers was great. The First Edition did some great Country/Southern Rock also. Songs like “Reuben James”, Tell It All Brother”, “Heed the Call”, and “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town”. Those are my favorite Kenny Rogers songs. I sometimes wish he’d stayed R&R. You can hear, I think, the Creedence Clearwater Revival influence in some of these songs. “Ruby” is one about a disabled Vietnam veteran. His wife is leaving him for another man; because of his inability to satisfy her. Classic, Timeless songs I think. Listen to these. You will be surprised by them. Great video, thank you.

This is a really good duet, indeed. Oh, and the two different women you were thinking of were Sheena Easton and Sheila E. (Escovedo). Sheila had hits like "The Glamorous Life", and my favorite, "A Love Bizarre". She is one heck of a percussionist. And, if I remember correctly, Tito Puente was her godfather.
Sheena Easton, on the other hand, had many hits. "Almost Over You" is a tearjerker. "For Your Eyes Only" is a really good Bond theme. However, my two favorites from her are the late 80s, early 90s, more "adult" or "cupcake" like appeal, songs. "The Lover in Me" and "What Comes Naturally". Yeah, yeah it was in my teenage years. Sheesh.
At any rate, the one thing both Sheila E. & Sheena Easton share is that they both got their big break through Prince. You hear him in Sheena's "You've Got The Look", and as a background vocal in Sheila's "A Love Bizarre".
Annnnddd ... that is enough of an 80s flashback. Hope that helps clear up the confusion between the two.

You need to delve into Sheena's rather varied catalog. Solid mainstream pop like "Morning Train (9 to 5)" to vocal showcase power ballads "Almost Over You" and "You Should Have Been With Me" to the timeless, atmospheric James Bond theme "For Your Eyes Only" to the "bad girl" songs of "Strut" and "Sugar Walls" (the latter written by Prince) to the R&B bangers that she did with Babyface, "The Lover in Me" and "Days Like This"

No matter who Kenny sang with , it made the song a masterpiece. What a fine voice and magnificent performer. He is missed.

Jamel, Kenny did wear white when he sang, Lady but I don't know if it's the same night. Thanks for this reaction. I haven't heard this duet in a long time. Take care and be well. Peace.

I had a mad crush on Sheena when I was a kid! Her work with Prince was fantastic too!

Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton covering Bob Seger. Live. I mean, come on, you gotta love it.
