EDIT: Listening to these again lately, during a period marked by a personal sensitivity or disinterest in treble heat, I do need to share that the MP145 can have some heat in the treble. Cymbals and snare can hit with something of an edge or highlight. Then again, it is NOTHING like what a lot of treble intense gear does comparatively. Still, I have to be honest with what I hear when I hear it! And at this time I hear treble heat. Check out my “Dan EQs” playlist for a sample of my suggested EQ.

I also want to add that, in hindsight, I could have said a bit more to how much I enjoyed the S12’s female vocals. It sounded really really nice and let her shine. It showed how a cleaner low end can even fit upper end players like female vocalists or other instruments. There are trade offs at times. It’s very hard to have both that ethereal female voice (S12, Heyday) AND sultry low end. Balancing the two is something I do want to achieve though with a future collab 😊
I also want to add that the MP145’s warmth may be too much for very long listening, if you feel you can get bass fatigue. I don’t always think to mention everything possible to be said in reviews, but this is something I wanted to say. It’s true for any warm flavored set though, like even my ultimate favorites of warmth - the QKZ x HBB and FATFreq Maestro SE. Warmth isn’t my usual inclination for this reason. Fatigue is real. BUT, for what these warm sets, like the MP145, are trying to do, they are very appealing (until they fatigue your mind/ears).
Like I said in the conclusion though, my preference is for less warmth and more lean toward a brighter playback (more treble or upper end lean). I will release my EQ profile for this reason - though the release may need to wait until the kickstarter IEMs go out there into the public. This is out of professional courtesy to HIDIZS.
I have made mistakes released EQ publicly too soon, and all it may do is make people not like the original product. I feel guilty for that.

The bass warmth is so unique compared to anything else I've listened to so far such as the Ananda stealth headphones, Moondrop CHU2, Simgot EW200 or truthear reds. I really love your emphasis on finding joy in a sound compared to the endless search for the "perfect" earbud or headphone

Great review! This planar seems great…. I have to say I was listening to this in my car and was rather amazed at the subtle nuances my car stereo was picking up between these headphones… I usually listen to your reviews through headphones… this style is great … I’m 47 now and I remember as a kid watching the painter bob ross and you would just be drawn into his world… this style of review gives that same feeling where it draws you into the iem world… lol and I mean that in the most complimentary way possible… as I have stated previously…this style of review is superb and no one else does it! It’s really great to see such a thorough comparison encompassing so many iplanar iems…. I’m still an og timeless fanboy though but I will def try and pick this up

It's nice to hear things like "It brings that soul" or any mention of "joy" in a review because it seems like I rarely hear that. For awhile I lost sight of why I wanted to improve sound quality in the first place chasing products down the consumer rabbit hole.
The mp145 wasn't even on my radar until I watched your kiwi ears melody video and this video with the comparisons. I closed my eyes and opened them when I heard what I liked and that was the mp145. Maybe it will go on sale for the holidays.

I love this format Dan, and this one is pretty complete rundown on the planar wars. While is not like actually hearing the iems per se, is the closest we can get and a lot come to light by comparisons and pretty words can paint you a picture but the sound speaks for itself right. MP145 is pretty interesting brings way more to the table that I gave it credit for. I also think timeless as groundbreaking as it was didn't live up to it's name, at least not in the market, but timeless nonetheless in chifi history. Everything is also bound to personal taste in the end, and while I can't say with certainty as I've not listened to iem itself, for me MP145 actually is a little bit above what I want in warmth and bass, I'm still leaning to Hook X and S12 Pro. Amazing as always. Take care. Bye bye.

Man the MP145's larger driver really delivers that bass body huh? I might just grab it as an upgrade to my good ol' Timeless... Not before getting an idea of what Timeless2 is going to be bringing to the table though.

These hit very close to an EQ I made for the heydays which is my personal target.
I bought the S12 Pros and I'm happy with them - I like it, but sometimes the treble do be a little too spicy for me and the bass isn't enough for me. I listened to this video with the S12 Pros actually and the ending clip of the bass thumping off the KP145 makes me very happy that I backed their kickstarter haha. thanks for the hella informative video! cheers

I pulled the trigger on the MP145's, finally...after watching this review for the second time and seeing them on sale, at the start of the new year, for only $125 (delivered). The sound...exceptional. A cut above my beloved S12's. Wonderful design and build quality, at this price.
They are BIG...that's for sure. But still comfortable to have in my ears for hours. Not for listening in bed...they are simply too large...should I fall asleep with them on. However, they are fine everywhere else.
T10's arrived a few days ago. I enjoy both the T10's and MP145's. The T10 tuning is very much to my liking, maybe a little warmer than the MP145's, but still with that sweet planar detail. Both are keepers in my small planar stable. The T10's have supplanted my S12's, when away from the desk.
The T10's were priced so low (US$50, delivered, AliEx), I pulled the trigger on the CCA Rhapsody ($35)...which arrived the next day. The reviews of that IEM intrigued me and I had to give'em a try too. Very nice switch-tunable hybrids and a steal at $35.
At the moment, if I had to toss all of my IEM's save but one (i.e. T10, MP145, S12, Hexa, T3+, Olina, Heart Mirror, Lea, Rhapsody, Castor (improved), Castor, KZ PR1 HiFi, Tangzu Wan'er, KZ CRN, DQ6 (yuk), CCA CRA, CCA NRA, KZ ZS10 Pro, BL-3) ...it would be the T10. It's general performance across genre and overall size, comfort make it the best universal choice for my liking. Honorable alternatives amongst this stable: MP145, S12, Hexa, Heart Mirror (modded), T3+, Rhapsody, Castor (improved), Tangzu Wan'er, CRA. Basically, of the ~20 IEM's bought over the last 4 years...I was most satisfied on 50% of the purchases and regret about 15% of the purchases. The remaining 35%...meh. Time to cull the herd...gifting the meh's as starter units to friends who've never tried a decent IEM. I'll be keeping the CRN and DQ6 as a hype-warning reminder...no sense passing them on or filling a landfill!
Looks like a warmer, smoother, planar Audio Hekili. Got my interest.

It's very lean and had pretty bad planar timbre in real life. Not recommended unfortunately
I skipped this set because I though that all planars would eventually sound a little too bright for me, that all of them will miss the subtle extra rumble of the bass like my OH10...but OH MY GOD this is the holy grail for me. Finally a worthy replacement that is not USD1000+.

Your reviews... well, I like your sense of humour, depth of your thoughts and correct words spelling), but I do have a feeling that sometimes you talk to yourself more than to us. Your are floating away along with your ideas. Try to narrow the focus, cut off unnecessary lyrics. In my country we say (don't pour water from one empty pot into another). God luck, mate. P.S. I've got 3 of the 4 pairs used in the comparison (good luck finding the Hook-X anymore), and the MP145 sounds different enough that if it is sold at a decent price, I might grab it. It's close to the Heyday, but different enough to offer a different "feel", so it's worth looking into.

Dan, what Nozzle did you use with the MP145 in these demos? The silver Nozzle gives most clarity.
I picked up the MP145 from Kickstarter out of sheer curiosity, in a package with the DH80S DAC/amp to go with my AP80 Pro-X. I've loved the AP80, which drives my UM 3DT Terminator (dual DD) rather well through the 2.5mm balanced output (though the DH80S makes them both even better). The AP145 cost me less than half what the Terminator cost but, but compare well in some ways*. I spent hours today A/Bing the two earphones by switching the MP145's 4.4mm balanced cable between the shells. It's not an easy way to compare IEMs, which is what makes your methodology so interesting.
I'm going to go look at your channel to see if you describe it. If you haven't created a video that does that, you really should.
* The MP145's treble extension really does create the impression of more detail, but I suspect it's illusory.

If u switch between 7hz and mp145 i notice with my studio earphones that 7hz sounds a bit thinner and mp145 meatier and fuller..like u explain here.....between mp145 and s12 pro i just noticed that mp145 the space was more open while everything was same full and meaty like at s12 pro..

Hidizs is anyway a great sound tuner ....its small DAPS AP80 /Pro/Pro-X are legendary for its price/size/performance. Of course i also own bigger DAP's but the little hidizs is still coplimenting some songs more beautyful than some A&K or iBasso Daps..because its more focused on micro details.
Your channel is really very informative and a great source to find right IEM's by trying them on some way out...🙂
which is more a safer pick the s12 pro or mp145? There are rumors that the mp145 have been silently retuned for the worse and also michael bruce opened one and discovered a different type of camper coating than the better sounding mp145
@@choydeliverer7162 In my case i really enjoy the MP145 ....I also own Campfire IEM's and Penon which are more expensive mit i must admit some songs are better cmplimented with details at the right frequency levels by the MP145 ...its not that more expensive iem's dont have details its just MP145 bis bringing some details more prominent.
I think for the price the MP145 is really a save investment and great experience....and if you own a strong DAP you can realls turn the high gain on and put the volume high up without any distortion or loss of sound quality.. I own the first one of the MP145 and didnt hear any rumors that they changed some coating...but i ll check with hidizs since they are very communicative on their media sites..

Came wandering in here several weeks late (per usual) after a short with the Fudu, T3+, and MP145. Despite my initial reservations, I did want to learn more about the MP145, so thanks for taking the time to review this product! Here because the intervention that has given me the most mileage as far as new experiences with old music has been separation. Planars do that exceptionally well, but I have always been hesitant as planar samples sound too intense in high-mids and treble. Timeless is a hard pass, unfortunately.
After review, these actually seem like a plausibly safe entry into planars for me, save for one problem... the nozzles. They're huge. 6.9mm. That straight up won't go in my left ear and would violate my right ear. It seems that planar IEM housings trend toward the larger side. Ironically, the Timeless is an incredibly comfortable 5mm. Oy vey! Very sad to be missing this one. Perhaps with the rapid movement that this space sees, the tech will get a little tighter and prices even better in the near future.
These might not be perfect for everyone. It’ll depend on treble sensitivity I think. There’s a spot up top that can be hot. But I do have an EQ profile that takes it very nicely, if people EQ.
As for the fit, it could be something some ears don’t fit the best. For me, it had issues at first, but did fit better if I twisted them forward.

putting these vs the cca cra+ is a difficult A/B comparrison. hard to tell which i would recommend

These sound fantastic in the demo. My only worry is that they may be too dark? noticeable more on the female voice track. But I'm tempted to just grab them if I'm honest.
The MP145’s tuning is a tad warm at times yes. I do have a preferred tuning to it, using EQ, where I do lower the low end a few dB.
But still, those benefits of the sound are unique enough among competition in planars that we don’t hear much or at all. Had to highlight those strengths.

MP145 is what Timeless AE was meant to be.
I'm listening to this with an mp145 with the bass filter and balanced tips.
The timeless slaps well and sounds fast/resolving, the timeless AE sounds better in relationship between the mids and highs than the timeless but there's something I don't like about it. If the MP145 had more 8khz it'd probably sound between them all while still sounding thicker and that's why I EQ them a bit. S12 sounds clearer but thinner. The S12 sounds almost unnatural by being thinner and sounded peaky. The Hook sounds like the S12 but raspier.
Heyday sounds second best to me, like the timeless but with more depth and/or detail. Hook sounds best in mids and highs to me, MP145 for bass.
You pick the best music for A/Bing! Do you have a playlist or something? I'd like to have more music that sounds like this.
Subbed because I can't A/B but this lays out the differences quite nicely. The Timeless' signature against the mp145 sounds a little tinny and the Heyday doesn't have the warmth of the mp145. The Heyday having less bass presence aids in dynamics, though. Switching from the Heyday to the Hook the Hook sounds more detailed just with a raspy microphone-esque sound. MP145 sounds a little closed in but the bass and note weight is nuts.
If the MP145 just sounded airier it'd easily be the most enjoyable.

Best way to explain how I feel about these MP145’s….sounds equivalent to (bassy) analogue, tube or vinyl while the competition sounds digital or solid state. Some people LOVE this sound but it’s an acquired taste. Even if you don’t, this set/ sound definitely makes them unique and definitely worth owning. Great video format Dan.

Maybe not a direct flavor profile upgrade exactly, as the T3+ isn’t that warm. But…it isn’t the worst idea of an upgrade path given both try to be thumpy - with the MP145 pushing that aspect further anyway.
So in that way yes. Good upgrade on that trait of thumpyness. And the perceived cleanliness is greater perhaps in the MP145 somehow (albeit, with a layer of warm on top, again).
It isn’t a straight path up but it is a nice diagonal one. But if you fear bass fatigue, don’t rush to get it. If it’s interesting to explore for yourself given everything said and heard, then go for it! It does have admirably enjoyable traits.

So i think I've probably listened to the demos for 5-7 hours. The mp145 doesn't put me to sleep, but it will let me sleep. 22:30 Dan calls it "thumpy... not to wishy-washy and warm and blanketed, and it's not too Thumpy, Thumpy, Thumpy Thumpy." I'd say it's like your dad driving you down a countryroad late at night. You can stay up and enjoy the radio, or you can quietly drift off to sleep. The mp145 has note weight, but it does not bite like the s12 or other items. It doesn't demand your attention like the timeless. I also hear less of a sheen as compared to the heyday and hook x, but that can make the mp145 sound waterlogged at times. I'm still on the fence on buying 🤦♂

Sounds like the MP145 has too much bass that’s drowning out some harmonics that’s keeps it from sounding euphonic. Maybe I love treble so the Heyday is my pick.
I hear that too, that bass sounds like it's bleeding into the mids. It's masking the details in the bass department

An alternative that goes warmer would be the FUDU.
For brighter but rounded sounding, I do like the S12 pro.
For utter nonsensically good sound, if a bit risky in terms of fit in your ear, the Monarch MKII or the Unique Melody MEST.

Thiat sound is really made for me, but I do think the bass is tad too much for my liking.
So many good new stuff and yet the very same new stuff are out of stock/availability/discontinued as fast as they release new other good stuff..

After listening to this sound demo with different IEM/headphone, i can tell that the bass and mids are push forward more than the Timeless and thats not a good thing in my opinion. The bassline in the chilli peppers song on the MP145 sounds bloated and you lose details because it's being overshadowed by that bass.

For me these thumpy sets just they do dominate a bit I prefer something with a bit less space because I find it just it overrules everything else and you miss out on the space with that much base

For me the Timeless is just to hard to beat, i only walk around with music so it will take a lot for me to swap it out; amazing sound, cable is great quality while being light weight and they look and feel great in ear. I cant believe you said to take the IE 200 over the Timeless AE, i have the PC38X for gaming but i couldn't stand the IE200, each to there own though i guess :)
I liked the timeless AE, I felt like I could hear more bass notes. While the MP 145 was just thumping and humming.

Many songs used in the review have a whispery or near-speech-like vocal style, which is fine, but I think it misses out on representing other hugely popular singing styles.
Ahh perhaps true.
I don’t always show all the tracks from my demo list, which has more non-whispery styles. I mean there are non-whispery parts of vocals here still, but I hear what you mean.
Reviews can only show so much between the commentary that takes more than half the runtime. I have to make cuts and keep the flow moving.
I suppose anyone can still open the full demos on their own though and hear more from each IEM on a wider variety of tracks and style, and for longer - if they like.

Maybe they can do a hybrid. But until then, I'll add in a few hundred more and get the awesome AKG N5005 for less $300. It's a former $1000 iem.

I feel like the MP145 is too bassy and too smooth for a universal listening. Timeless AE sounded like it has a better balance of sharpness and fullness
There are treble spots to my ear that can actually feel strong. I actually would lower it a couple dB there. I posted a new EQ short about it. Check it out!
