    There is a story being told. This section is like a 25 minute musical. A girl has sex (Like a Virgin), goes to church and repents/prays to God (Like a Prayer), discovers she is pregnant (Live to Tell), then elaborates on her feelings about how her dad reacts (Oh Father). The next song finishes the story...

    Just discovered your channel tonight! Making my way through your Madonna reactions and love seeing you come to realization of who she is. It's her, Michael, and Prince. The pop royalty trinity. This performance here is why she's the biggest female artist of all time. If all she were was a pop singer I don't think she would have lasted as long or had such a devoted fanbase. Her ballads are some of my favorite songs. "Live to Tell" was actually very early on in her career if you can imagine. It made people realize she was more than a "pop tart." And then "Like a Prayer" and later the Ray of Light album (which you need to check out!) proved she was truly an artist. I'm sure others have already said it, but this concert changed the game and is the blueprint for every tour you see today. Definitely check out the Like a Prayer and Vogue videos. And after seeing your reaction to Like A Virgin, I'd love to see you react to the original music video and Justify My Love! She's been around for over 40 years so there's so much left for you to discover.

    These are two of her most underrated songs! Then again, watching her perform these two songs made them epic. Madonna's music helped give me confidence as a teen. Not to get personal, but to answer your question, these two songs in particular helped me deal with the strained relationship I had, at the time, with my father. I'm thrilled that you're beginning to see that Madonna is more than just pop and shock. She's a legend! Keep these brilliant reactions coming! 👑

      @Victoria-Lesly I think maybe they mean in terms of LTT and OF not getting as much love and attention as her more upbeat songs? "Crazy for You" is the sole exception in terms of streaming and even it has a fraction of the streams as "Hung Up," "Material Girl," etc.

    Love that you are so vibing with her voice when this was precisely at the moment when she was experiencing the most difficulty in terms of vocal health. This was the last show in a four month tour. If you hear the Japanese shows at the start of the tour you’ll be amazed again! She practically lost her voice mid way through this tour and was ordered basically not to speak off stage! Wait ‘til you hear what she can do when she has no vocal problems…!

    Madonna has always famously created her live shows to be like theater. She arranges the songs strategically to tell a story and there are separate acts. She's a legit artist, not just a pop singer and as big as she has been I still don't think she gets the credit she deserves. Her transformations both in appearance and in personality that come through with each era of her career were always authentic and due to changes and experiences in her own life rather than just marketing gimmicks.

    Thank you for these tour performance reactions! Madonna is one of the greatest live performers, not for her voice but he ability to pull together stunning visuals, choreography, and emotion and heart through her voice. I know you are doing the Blonde Ambition concert right now but you should really consider also reacting to, or watching on your own, the Live to Tell video or studio audio of song (imo it's one of her greatest ballads) and the watch the video for Oh Father - this is a stunningly beautiful and powerful video that will take you on an emotional journey (maybe top 5 videos of her entire career).

    I think you’re getting the vibe of Blond Ambition. When you said it’s “stitched together “ Madonna described the show as a “journey “ so I think you’re in line with that sentiment. The second song is Oh Father. You should consider watching the official music video-it’s a real tear- jerker.

    Reading the comments I've found it interesting that it was relayed that for this concert the order of Like a Virgin, Live to Tell, and Oh Father are such as to make the story of an unplanned pregnancy. (I'm assuming that's from Madonna interviews as accurate as folks likely know a lot more about the specifics of that tour than me).
    Using them to tell that type of story is interesting given their subjects separately: refreshing/happy relationship, distrust and abuse, and parental neglect and abuse after her mother's death.
    Shows the versatility possible in her choices of song lineup and performance/costume designs.

  • @balovett

    "'Will I ever have the chance again?' Ooooh, man, yes... I hope you do." (2:24) I love when you have these call and responses with the artists in your reactions.
    This is actually a medley of songs. "Oh Father" starts here. (5:24) Such a lovely interpretive dance she does with her dancer during the outro.
    "Papa Don't Preach" starts here. (8:06)
    You make an excellent point about the sequencing of this show. It's clear that a great deal of thought and planning when into this to tell a story and elicit an emotional response.
    And your surprise reaction at the end matches my own underestimation of her at each stage of her career's ascent.

      Can you remember the first Madonna song you heard Brad?

    • @balovett
      @balovett 5 місяців тому +1

      @@SephPlays I think the first Madonna song I heard was "Lucky Star," which I loathe! MTV used to play it in heavy rotation when it was first released. As such, I started off hating Madonna and dismissed her early material.
      But that started to shift when she released "Into The Groove" from the DESPERATELY SEEKING SUSAN soundtrack. It was so undeniably catchy. So good that I had to re-evaluate my prior opinion. It still was a slow warming, but by the time she released "Like a Prayer" and "Express Yourself," I was completely on board. My friends and I attended her Blonde Ambition tour show in Chicago and it was just as incredible as what you see here.
      So yeah, like you said at the end of your reaction, I too thought I had Madonna sorted, only to be repeatedly shown to have underestimated her. In fact, her music is all over the hot mix tapes I have posted to my Mixcloud page. She was easily one of my favorite artists during her peak.

      A broken lawn mower, huh? Wow, that was not on my bingo card! And the headphones too? Flip! Where those the headphone you initially used for your reactions? (The ones you said made you look like a flippin' Teletubby?) Or your black (Sony?) earbuds?

      You can hear that she sounds very exhausted - the Like a Prayer performance just before was demanding. Same during the Who's that Girl Tour - after the massive (!) dance break of Into the Groove she sounds very exhausted during La Isla Bonita.

    • @FindingMadonna
      @FindingMadonna 5 місяців тому

      Yes, her voice improved for the 2000s tours, but I actually prefer the rawness and soulfulness of her vocals during this time (and the Girlie Show, where her voice was better than it is here). Those later performances are technically better vocally, but she lost some range and depth as she got older. For instance, this tour was the ONLY time she's ever hit that "call MY name" note in full voice.
