01:13 As a Norwegian, I can attest that whenever Norway or a Norwegian even is mentioned in passing in movies or series, I immediately go "Nice, awesome, cool! :D"
For a show set in the US military in 1943 it's kinda weird they don't know the nazis had occupied Norway. Not only was that contemperary, not only was Martha and the children in the US, but Roosevelt literally used Norway as an example of european resistance to the nazis - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Look_to_Norway
I live in Arendal and ive heard that alot of tourists come here thinking that Arendal will have an Elsa castle. Dont know why Arendal does not take advantage of this and build it😅

Arendal is my town i was born and raised. here. in the picture you see the south east part of town and on the other side of the water is a big island "hisøy" it is mostly a residental zone,, the church is standing more or less in the center of town. so not a big town but it is a summer paradise and a large part of the norwegian population from the east and north norway come her for summer vacation and boat life. not just arendal but all the south land"sørlandet" Tvedestand, Arendal,Grimstad,Lillesand, Kristiansand and mandal.
It's not really a double-edged sword. We get to work on international productions, Norwegian film people are kept employed, the skill levels of Norwegian film workers have become way higher than before Hollywood started coming, and it's money in the bank. People who rent their house out for a production don't expect the history of the building to be represented. It does get a little weird when someone lives in a home in the middle of Vigelandsparken or Prekestolen is presented as whatever country they pretended it was in, but the good far outweighs the bad
Worth mentioning that with internet and "nerd culture" visiting locations where movies or TV series were made is very much a thing. Particularly sine Lord of the Rings were filmed in New Zealand. Game of Thrones is another example that generates tourism. Movie/TV-fans tend to look up notable locations used. Such exposure almost certainly reach potential tourists that more traditional advertisment do not.
Sonja Henie was a huge Hollywood star but that was so long ago that even most Norwegians have forgotten her. If they ever knew her, and she was only one person. But Star Wars was probably the pioneer in using Norwegian scenery.
The Thirtheenth warrior was marginally better. But still the Norwegian was horrible. The worst was that there was a norwegian in one of the rolles. He read the script and went to the director. Listen here, this socalled Norwegian is all wrong. They should say so and so instead. The director refused to listen and demanded that he talk shitty Norwegian because it was in the script. The actor tried again. But I am actually from Norway, it is my native language. I know what I am talking about. Still the director just got pissed off and stubbornly dug his heels in. So for the whole of the movie, The Norwegian Actor had to talk Horrible Norwegian, just because it was in the script, and the director didn't want to change anything.
I live close to Atlantic Road, we where present when Transformers, James Bond, Black Widow, Furious movies where filmed. By the way, the ferry 'Goma' is named after a place in Kristiansund city. I own a house in Goma, Kristiansund. The problem with us is that we see this everyday, and it's normal with fjords, mountains and so on. Most of us take this nature for granted.
@@notsure7060 Dæven, skal si jeg reiste meg i stolen da jeg så navnet på ferga i Black Widow... Visste Scarlett var i fylket da de spilte inn filmen. hi tyler, you have actually found a little goldmine. norwegians are extremely patriotic and loves it when foreigners comment on norway (im norwegian btw.) cheers🙂
As a Norweigan, I'm a little dissapointed that the video did not mention Star Wars ONCE. The ice planet Hoth, shown in the film The Empire strikes back, has it's location in Norway.
Reps from Disney came to the open air museum I used to work at just outside Trondheim to copy the design of one of the buildings exibited for the Frozen portion of one of the Disney parks (the one in Florida?) a few years back.
The 2019 animated movie “Klaus” (a wonderful Santa Claus origin story) takes place in a setting based on Svalbard, Norway, and features Sami characters speaking their language as well.
In several Marvel movies they show a fictionalized version of Tønsberg, the oldest city in Norway (and possibly scandinavia) at more than 1000 years old
Now now, hold your horses. Tønsberg has a somewhat weak claim to the title of oldest SURVIVING settlement in Norway. Expanding that to Scandinavia as a whole is ludicrous ^^,
Not to mention, the name Arendell was probably supposed to be Arendale, which is how you would say Arendal in english context.but they probably felt they shouldn't use a real placename during pre-production.
I suspect Targaryans a inspired by Norwegians. They are tall, blond, and some of their names are adaptations of norwegian names, like Aemond = Amund, Vaemond = Vemund, Aenar =Einar. Targar also sounds alot like Torgeir. And High Valyrian has the same R sound. Actually i think alot of the letters must be the same. Im norwegian and i have been learning High Valyrian on Duolingo, and i find the words very easy to pronounce.
If you are going to research this more I would actually recommend if you have seen the last mission impossible movie then look for the train scene at the end of the movie when it says (somewhere in Austria) it is actually Norway
It is annoying when they pretend to speak Norwegian and don't even make an effort to sound remotely similar, but apparently make an enormous effort in inventing some strange language. There's a lot of it and I don't know why they do it. It is actually rather offensive. There's a scene in Godless as well, where they're apparently supposed to speak Norwegian, but there's no recognizable words at all. If I remember correctly, there's a scene in Boardwalk Empire where there's some pretty good Norwegian though.
It always irritates me when they dont get someone that actually speak Norwegian to do the lines, especially when its like a tiiiiny role where you dont need a "big name"..
Hollywood is really not that good at looking at Norway. They have mostly ignored the whole viking age, and they try to make their own stories, rather than copy the Snorre stories, that is basically the whole viking mythology and history. You also have Asbjørnson & Moe, that was basically Norway's version of the Brother Grims, only a bit nicer. And the last 70 years, you had Thorbjørn Egners and Kjell Aukrust, who made really good stories. But, consider how Hollywood is messing up other stories currently, that might be a good thing. Also, not sure why, but the creator of the video ignored that the Hoth scene from Star wars, was also filmed in Norway. To get the snow. And we had a few movies that became cult classics for a short time. Dead snow and Troll.
I don't remember which movie it was, but during a Marvel movie there was a scene where Norway was mentioned and I remember hearing small gasps throughout the cinema 😂 which I find very cute
If you live in a small town in a small state in the US, and suddenly a hollywood movie is going to be made there, I will think the locals will get the same feeling. You know, most Americans aren't able to point out the US of A on a map. And a big part of your population does not know the answer to "in which country are you living?". Geography is not your nations speciality. BTW, you have a Norway pavilion in EPCOT, and a real Norwegian Stave Church. Also, Tom Cruice has been filming in Norway for all of his latest movies. The last James Bond movie, where they drive on the nice bridge, is right where I live :-) The Mission Impossible scenes are a two hours drive away. Have you been here? If not, it's perfect timing with the Norwegian Crown being so cheap now. Half priced compared to a few years ago. I'm sure, if you post it in a video, we can arrange a complete Norway Tour with couch surfing.
Even though Romania have some spectacular landscapes as well. But there’s something with the summer lights in Norway and a long lasting daylight. But bad if you should shoot a normal summer evening or night.

Twin peaks, and that tv series from Minnesota made after the film from the 90s, The thing has Norwegians as well. I saw a recent film with Matt Damon I think and parts were even from Bergen.
And dolms dont say anything when filmed in Scandinavia as they know the intelligent part of the world will know instantly that they're using scandivian places. Seeing that black beach was all i needed... 😏
Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One Includes scenes shot in North-West Norway. Dune (2011) The first part of Dune, on Caladan, was filmed in Stadlandet, Norway. No Time to Die The Atlantic Road in Norway, and areas in Western Norway were used. Black Widow Scenes filmed in Sæbø, Ørsta, and Møre og Romsdal were used. Tenet Includes scenes filmed in Oslo. Downsizing Has scenes shot in Trollfjord and Tysfjorden. The Snowman A crime thriller set in Norway, with filming locations including Oslo and Bergen. Ex Machina Was partly shot at the Juvet Landscape Hotel in Valldal. The Frozen movies The fictional kingdom of Arendelle, is heavy inspired from Norwegian landscapes, architecture, and culture. Elements such as stave churches, fjords, and traditional Norwegian clothing, tools, animals etc. And Arendal is a real city in Norway. The Little Mermaid This is a Danish/Norwegian fairytale and the setting is the Coast south of Norway and North of Denmark. The How to Train Your Dragon movies The mythical Viking village of Berk is officially set off the north-west coast of Norway. In reality there are no islands at the coordinated Berk is supposed to be at though. The Golden Compass Norway, and especially Svalbard was used for this movie. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince Raumabanen (The Rauma Railway) was used as the backdrop for the train ride on board the Hogwarts Express through a snowy landscape. When Harry and Ron are talking about the unbreakable curse of Snape, they were in a museum train owned by the Norwegian Railway Club. Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back The ice planet Hoth was in reality Norway. Aliens vs. Predator They say in the movie that the area belongs to no nation, but the coordinates shown are really Dronning Maud Land in the Arctic, which is Norwegian. No scenes were filmed in Norway or Dronning Maud Land though, as far as I know. The Thing (1982 and 2011) The opening scene features a Norwegian research station in Antarctica. The portrayal of the Norwegian team and their interactions with the alien life form sets the stage for the story. Though the scenes were actually filmed in British Columbia, Canada. Thor Odin, Thor, Mjølner (mjau-mjau), Loki (Loke), Freia (Frøya), Heimdal, Asgard (Åsgard), Jotunheim, Valhalla, Ragnarok etc. are all based on Viking Myth, largely based on Norwegian/Scandinavian Myth. And while Asgard may sound a bit funny to Americans, it is actually Åsgard (pronounced quite differently from how Americans say it) and it means something along the lines of The Farm on the Hill - So like the Greek gods living high up on a mountain, so did the Norse gods - metaphorically speaking. To get there you had to cross the Rainbow Bridge "The Bifrost" - also in the Avengers movies. Thor: The Dark World Jane Foster was given an excellent observatory in Tromsø. Just mentioned in passing. Captain America The fictionalized town of Tønsberg in the movie is a real city in Norway. Also, references to Norse mythology. The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Episode "The Well" Largely set in Norway, with mentions of Norwegian Myths, referring to the Norse gods and Berserkers. Trillemarka National Park in the episode is a real place in Norway. Avengers: Age of Ultron Tony Stark goes to the NEXUS Internet Hub in Oslo, to see who is stopping Ultron from accessing nuclear launch codes, and recovers J.A.R.V.I.S. This is most likely based on the real life NIX Hub in Oslo. - Not actually filmed in Oslo though. Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder Thee movies mention and feature "New Asgard". I believe at least some of the scenes were filmed in Norway and its meant to be somewhere near Tønsberg in Norway, though the filming location is actually Saint Abbs in Scotland. Insomnia This movie is a remake of a Norwegian Movie by the same name. The American version is set in Alaska. The Norwegian movie is better btw.
Also, german in US world war II movies was always so messed up.... Just use german actors for christ sake. But you're also forgetting how popular scandinavia has become after Brits and Americans found out they love all the scandi krimi dramas. Broen.and Forbrydelsen gave Denmark so much tourism after they where shown in England. Thyre been having tours with all konds of shopping going on as well. The islandic sweaters that we all wore in the 70s have become this fashion must have thing in England now. Even AbFab did an episode where she dreams about Forbrydelsen and Sara Lund, she wven speaks danish to her...well at least she thinks she does...😅 Gråbøl..eh what are you doing ? Im a speaking danish hüdyy gürdyy flürdyy... Eh no your not, oh yes i am.... 😅
Norway is a country With a population og 5,5 million, far north in The Arctic. Yet we act quite worldly. A wice man said: Norway is a country in The World.
Frozen has brought two million extra American tourists (in addition to the usual crowd) since 2015, so I think Frozen have had made an impression on Americans. Tom Cruise have been here with his Mission Impossible franchise several times, and the scenes shot in Norway, actually in the films tese places are presented as India and other places. So it is only filmnerds and people that look up the films on IMDB that really knows there are scenes shot here. Frozen is animated, so they sent a crew to get inspired. Arendelle is somewhat of a coincidence. Norway is NOT popular among American filmmakers, it is expensive, has no metropolises, and this we seee on the production crews. They have to be here for two months, the actors are here for anything from a day to five days (exceptions exist-some , like Chevy Chase, who went here some 35 years ago to film Spies like US, in te film the scenes was supposed to be Pakistan, he spent three weeks in Trondhiem, the 3rd largest city, and he said : -Gotta love it, three weeks, and I have not seen ONE policecar! He enjoyed cocaine at the time, maybe he still does. And yes, I live in a city with 120 000 people in Norway, it could be a month between when I see a police car or police officer in the flesh)
And yes, that line was complete gibberish, not a language at all, that I know of at least. Might as well say "me doo dee dum dar dem der skoogen door" 😂
Mission impossible 6 was filmed in the preikestolen. And at the start of that film, there is a guy I know from Norway who plays the guy in the hospital bed extremely cool. Kristoffer Joner. I forgot some part in mission impossible 7 was also film in Norway
In the newest Saw movie, called Saw X, they reference something to Norway, and the female doctor is played by a norwegian actress)) And an another fun thing is that in the city I live in, Fredrikstad, there is an norwegian director called Harald Zwart that rename the city to "Hællæwood", since he also live in Hollywood. He does it when he has a premier on his movies he makes, and some International actors and actresses, like Will Smith, Jsckie Chan is on the premier and visits this beautiful city))
----- @Kari.F. ----- - You have clearly not seen 'X-Files', or at the very least don't remember that episode. For me, it's permanently seared into my brain for all time. -----
America is nit much in the news around Europe at the moment. Its more about the korean leader and his martial law declaration, or the plane crash. Or the Kazakhstan plane crash, or Ukraine or what germany or france is doing right now. Oh and of course all the funny so called accidents around the Scandinavian and nordic waters that seems to happen all the time. USA only comes up when there's another shooting and that was evey 4 days last year i felt. This year its only every 10 days or so... so slow for America. But of course if Tronal Dump opens his mouth its gonna be some stupid ahittao they cover that. Theres always a listen to the idiot talking story... But if you removed Mr.Dump you would hardly hear about them i feel...
In the Mission Impossible movies they have filmed in Norway, but in the film they do not tell, they call it something else. I think that is actually quite disrespectful considering the fact that they get a lot of money from us, from us taxpayers here in Norway!!! Give Norway the credit for the landscape you show and use. The landscape you get to rope off and drag helicopters etc. up to, in order to make huge scenes for your movies… Heck, we should really get a free ticket to see the movies, LOL!!!
Not knowing about the Norwegian Blue (possibly the most famous parrot in the Western Hemisphere) is totally forgivable, depending on your age. Not knowing about Mission Impossible is borderline :)
Let me first tell you that you do carry a Vikikng embley wtitten in old norse every day. Harald Blåtann was a Danish/Norwegian king and his name in english is....BlueTooth. ᛒᛚᚢᛖᛏᛟᛟᛏᚺ in Old Norse So U do carry his initals in old norse . So here's my suggestion, abd he is a masterpiece If you really want to learn about the Vikings, there no one better than this one: ua-cam.com/video/73Xb4STUupI/v-deo.htmlsi=cAYdHqbTXipXGGV4
Norwegian singer and song writer Aurora is one of the singers in Frozen...

So does every other pesron from a smaller country I`d imagine hehe, it`s cool to get some rep from "big time" countries and people (:
Star wars filmed in Norway too, for empire. When they're on hoth, that's Norway in winter.
More specifically, Finse.
Finse Strikes Back lol
The story in "Frozen" is partly inspired by "Snedronningen" -"The Snowqueen" by H C Andersen.❄️

The Little Mermaid
This is a Danish/Norwegian fairytale and the setting is the Coast south of Norway and North of Denmark.
The How to Train Your Dragon movies
The mythical Viking village of Berk is officially set off the north-west coast of Norway. In reality there are no islands at the coordinated Berk is supposed to be at though.
The Golden Compass
Norway, and especially Svalbard was used for this movie.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Raumabanen (The Rauma Railway) was used as the backdrop for the train ride on board the Hogwarts Express through a snowy landscape.
When Harry and Ron are talking about the unbreakable curse of Snape, they were in a museum train owned by the Norwegian Railway Club.
Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
The ice planet Hoth was in reality Norway.
Aliens vs. Predator
They say in the movie that the area belongs to no nation, but the coordinates shown are really Dronning Maud Land in the Arctic, which is Norwegian. No scenes were filmed in Norway or Dronning Maud Land though, as far as I know.
The Thing (1982 and 2011)
The opening scene features a Norwegian research station in Antarctica. The portrayal of the Norwegian team and their interactions with the alien life form sets the stage for the story. Though the scenes were actually filmed in British Columbia, Canada.
Thor
Odin, Thor, Mjølner (mjau-mjau), Loki (Loke), Freia (Frøya), Heimdal, Asgard (Åsgard), Jotunheim, Valhalla, Ragnarok etc. are all based on Viking Myth, largely based on Norwegian/Scandinavian Myth.
Thor: The Dark World
Jane Foster was given an excellent observatory in Tromsø. Just mentioned in passing.
Captain America
The fictionalized town of Tønsberg in the movie is a real city in Norway.
Also, references to Norse mythology.
The Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Episode "The Well"
Largely set in Norway, with mentions of Norwegian Myths, referring to the Norse gods and Berserkers.
Trillemarka National Park in the episode is a real place in Norway.
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Tony Stark goes to the NEXUS Internet Hub in Oslo, to see who is stopping Ultron from accessing nuclear launch codes, and recovers J.A.R.V.I.S.
This is most likely based on the real life NIX Hub in Oslo. - Not actually filmed in Oslo though.
Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Endgame, Thor: Love and Thunder
Thee movies mention and feature "New Asgard".
I believe at least some of the scenes were filmed in Norway and its meant to be somewhere near Tønsberg in Norway, though the filming location is actually Saint Abbs in Scotland.
Insomnia
This movie is a remake of a Norwegian Movie by the same name.
Eh no your not,
oh yes i am.... 😅
Norway is a country With a population og 5,5 million, far north in The Arctic. Yet we act quite worldly. A wice man said: Norway is a country in The World.
Can you hear how many different dialects this guy uses? ua-cam.com/video/-daDsvJfEX0/v-deo.htmlsi=VEEX1jiCfPeM5s3U
I was your 200th like
We have mede a quiete good norwegian films also the last years :-)
I Hope we are forgotten
"Norwegian plumage" 😏
And yes, that line was complete gibberish, not a language at all, that I know of at least.
Might as well say "me doo dee dum dar dem der skoogen door" 😂
Mission impossible 6 was filmed in the preikestolen. And at the start of that film, there is a guy I know from Norway who plays the guy in the hospital bed extremely cool. Kristoffer Joner.
I forgot some part in mission impossible 7 was also film in Norway
I know why Hollywood loves Norway without having to watch this. They get MONEY from our government if they make parts of their movie in Norway!!!
In the newest Saw movie, called Saw X, they reference something to Norway, and the female doctor is played by a norwegian actress))
And an another fun thing is that in the city I live in, Fredrikstad, there is an norwegian director called Harald Zwart that rename the city to "Hællæwood", since he also live in Hollywood. He does it when he has a premier on his movies he makes, and some International actors and actresses, like Will Smith, Jsckie Chan is on the premier and visits this beautiful city))
He forgot star wars
That line was not spoken in anything vaguely resembling Norwegian. He must have made some shit up that he throught sounded a bit like Norwegian. 😂

@Kari.F.

- You have clearly not seen 'X-Files', or at the very least don't remember that episode.
For me, it's permanently seared into my brain for all time.

do you speak any Norwegian?
But do Norwegians love Hollywood still?? Who love Hollywood anymore? it sucks!
Når skal du rydde rommet ditt?
I don't think Monty Python made it big in the US until much, much later. Their "earlier" material is still not that well known over there.
Rip parrot. 😂
RIP? It's just resting!
First
Let me first tell you that you do carry a Vikikng embley wtitten in old norse every day. Harald Blåtann was a Danish/Norwegian king and his name in english is....BlueTooth. ᛒᛚᚢᛖᛏᛟᛟᛏᚺ in Old Norse
So U do carry his initals in old norse . So here's my suggestion, abd he is a masterpiece
