I love how both Gem and Pearl have brought out silly Etho again. The 2 new kids who are no longer new kids kinda made Etho realize why Minecraft with friends is fun. "You wanna place some TNT?"

You could almost see the smile on Etho's face when he heard the trident permit come out. Also, Iskall and Etho had both a Trident and Prismarine farms in HC 8. She could probably build ponds all around the world to entice Hermits to travel with tridents, the same way Iskall and Etho did to "walk" on their HC 8 base... The cherry-mountain boys would definitely be interested!

This season is super into comradery and I absolutely love it. Everyone is having so much fun playing together and it actually makes it fun to watch.

You really highlighted how lively and interconnected this season is going to be! With the mail system, the interconnected paths, and the various levels of highways, the cherry wood mountain is shaping up to be one of my favorite minecraft builds ever!
Its like season 8, hopefully it wont be as short as season 8
@Comrade_YG Well, Season 8 was purposefully short because they knew 1.18 was going to revamp the world generation. That probably isn't the case this time.

Fun fact:
Fish are actually darker on top and lighter underneath. It's a form of camouflage against the dark ocean below and the light surface above.
Now, since anglerfish are deep sea fish, they probably don't have any coloration, and this particular one might be sun bleached from spending so much time as a fish market.
I actually like the broken lighthouse, especially giving your horror-aquatic theme, a broken lighthouse could be a cool addition, rather than repairing it fully.... you could even put a monster in there guarding it..... OOOH! A Warden, the paradox of a lighthouse that when you approach it makes darkness!

Oh that’s fun!
That's a really cool idea for an isolated lighthouse that people don't go around often (major annihilation vibes) . I think in a super high traffic area like Gem's base it would be far too much of hindrance to her and her neighbors gameplay.

Idea for electricity lines: run one end to Tango’s factory, and he can build some redstone thingy on the inside that looks like it’s generating power (if he’s down to use part of his build for that)

When you realize what salt does to snails...
You asked about tridents, they can only be obtained from drowned, but you can farm tridents by farming drowned. I recommend cutting a deal with whoever got the copper permit, since that also requires a drowned farm.
The problem with that is that most drowned farms rely on converting zombie reinforcements, which can't drop tridents. You need to design your drowned farm to get naturally spawned drowned to get tridents, and those farms give you almost no copper because of how much slower they are

The better farm is to drain a river biome where they will spawn, then create a big watery spawn area as close to world height as possible in its place. Attracting them to a kill chamber can be done via turtle eggs and fence gates.
Also, you can use water streams and ice to move the drowned. I play on bedrock and we use an upside down ice pyramid to gather drowned over an ocean
@@AccessMostAreasI don't think the river needs to be drained as long as you build it so high that the ground is not within 128 blocks of the kill chamber. Pretty sure.

Gem, as someone who designs power lines for a living, I have a couple of suggestions to make them look more realistic while still being stylized:
1. The pole look disproportionately tall in some places. The clearance from ground to the overhead line changes depending on what's under it. So if there is no access, it's like 10'. If there's horse access, it's like 15'. If it's over a waterway, you have to assume there are sailboats so it's like 40' to the water, and those all vary depending on local code and what the utility company wants. But adding to different heights when crossing different things would be appropriate. Knowing that the chains don't really droop, and this isn't something you would see in real life, but you could have two crossarms on a single pole with vertical chains going between them if you need to change heights like if going over a river.
2. If you go from the main lines to a building, you are going to need a transformer. Genuinely, like an iron or light gray terracotta block with two gray candles on top, on the side of the wood pole, beneath the crossarm, would look pretty close. The service line would then be attached to the pole, underneath the transformer, and go over to the building, or to a secondary pole like you have (and secondary poles don't need crossarms).
3. Primary wires (the chains) and secondary wires (the iron bars) are installed at different tensions, so having the chains straight and the iron bars droop is pretty accurate, so long as the spans aren't too long.
4. The weatherhead on the fish market (the pole where the service wire attaches to the building) would be metal, or painted metal, in real life. So like a deepslate wall variant, or a packed mud wall if it were painted to maybe match the building (they're usually not painted)
5. If your poles get too tall, you need to have aerial lighting on them so that planes don't crash into them at night. Knowing how poorly some of the Hermits fly, this is probably still a good idea.
6. If Pearl is going to expand her services to include telegraph, those wires can be attached to your poles, but those wires would be underneath yours and they still have to meet clearance. (Off the top of my head, lightning rods comes to mind, but only because if a telco line is emitting light like an end rod, something is seriously wrong with it.)

I love all the actually useful tunnels, waterways and bridges being build this season, it makes the server feel so lively! This season has the potential to be much less elytra-dependent since everyone is so close together!

Stopp 😭 this season is actually so good, the lack of elytras, fishing, building close to one another, many collaborations per episodes, LOTS of teriforming, the amount of boats, horses and not juwt flying, i love how there were some outfit changes for theme, heck theres even a postal service and permits for shops!

i think you should set the eye of the angler fish back and create an opening around it, so that the eye follows you wherever you go! adding that little uneasiness is always fun!

Season 8 was and still is very near and dear to me, it was my first season watching from the start of it as I had avoided anything Minecraft related until mid 2020.
Coming from Season 7 where no new Hermits joined the server, many others left, and the sense of grandeur of the bases yet vast emptiness in between them, Season 8 felt very much like a proper community.
While there was no proper shopping district, most Hermits were living in close quarters to one another. Bdubs promoting horses and creating paths all around the continent made it feel even more connected. You (Gem) and Pearl joining the server made it feel like the Hermits were growing again. And just the sheer amount of communal work that went into the videos, made it feel all the closer to a very wholesome community.
I was sad when Season 8 was... "Cut short", for lack of a better term, and Season 9 was grand, but I didn't feel the same sense of community as before.
This Season, however, plans have already been made for the Hermits to, once again, stick more or less close to each other, forming communities and "neighbourhoods". While a shooping district will exist, the Hermit Permits make this iteration a novel one, and again, it feels like a whole community helping each other to make a better (Minecraft) world.
I have no way of knowing what goes behind the scenes, but please, keep that direction through the season. I love seeing the Hermits being connected, by horse roads, boat canals, or just designated foot paths, I genuinely love it, and thank you all for making this season so far feel like an amazing community.❤❤❤
PS. I'm really sorry for the essay, I'm just having a lot of thankful and happy feelings seeing all the Hermits work on connecting their bases with one another.

The options you got for the permits for shops are so lucky!!! Tridents, Coral, and glass (possibly sea glass inspired?) especially match your theme for this season!! Can’t wait to see where this goes!

Of all the Hermits I think you give me the most ideas for how I like to build. I usually renovate villages and just live among them and things like docks with the "wet" water level logs are just gold.
I love the snail storyline and how Gem is participating in it by incorporating the damage into her build, instead of just repairing it
Man this episode had everything i love so much! Gem and ethos interactions are always so fun and i love how much care is being put into travel and hermit connection this season, epecially with so many people taking it slow and not having elytra yet. The lighthouse fish are so beautiful, but the fish head is so fun and such an intresting build that ive never really seen in gems style so its so beautiful!!! Also the hermit permits are such a fun idea and im so excited to see gems shops pop up. Overall i l9ve it so much!!
Hooray! Man-made horrors beyond comprehension! Loving the collective build styles of the mountain folks this season, it feels like the bases will all connect very well in the end ❤
This build style is really stratchin something in my brain. It's just so fun looking! You have giant fish heads and flying fish and the sea and its wonders and horrors and it's geniunely so cool to look at. There's a liveliness that you dont always get from just buildings
Angler fishes’ mouths are FULL of teeth, so I think it’d look even better with more dripstone
I am so in love with the water theme, and love that it plays off Grians base too!
I love how 80% of Gem x Grian conversations immediately turn into arguments like they're 11 years old.
Fun fact about anglerfish the females are the ones with the lights on their heads while the males are super tiny and fix themselves onto the female for the rest of there days.
The angler fish build is so cool, it's so unique and well-built and I'm loving all the organic builds you're doing this season!
the wet log trick is actually so cool, it looks amazing and i never would have thought of that!

oh my god i love power lines i love wires i love tall poles i love verticality ahhhhhh!!!! love that addition to the base i think it looks wonderful and adds a lot to the atmosphere, making it more modern/industrial looking than medieval, its awesome! also idk if you have any ideas for the entrance to the tunnel connecting you and etho, but when i saw it i for some reason thought of a flooded collapsed mine entrance, you know with the crooked beams and broken rails. not necessarily medieval looking, but like, old and abandoned. maybe that mine was used by the town, but during a storm it got flooded and became unusable so townsfolk had to make a new mine entrance higher up! just a random idea tho, im sure whatever you decide to build there would look perfect

I am absolutely obsessed with the vibes for this season and I LOVE the angler fish
I love how you show and talk through your building process in your videos! One of my favorite things about it is hearing you talk through all the big and small ways that you imbue life into your bases/builds by really thinking about how pieces should connect and adding supports and other realistic touches that aren't technically "needed" in a game where most blocks have no inherent gravity to them. And I've loved seeing how hermits taking things slow and not getting elytra immediately has led to boats/horses being so prevalent and how that's affected the landscape! You've made so many cool contributions already to the bridges and tunnels and creative jumping paths that make land and sea travel fun on a survival server and not only do they look great, but I love how they add life to the server as well, truly making different areas feel not just like landscapes in the background but a part of a woven together and lived in world. So excited to see where your season goes next, and congrats on the good permit luck! The RNG on the sorter is clearly also a GeminiTay fan and wanted to make sure your permits fit the vibe

I really love the style you are going for being less clean and "predictable" as a classic minecraft build or something we would expect of you. And you still make them feel like Gem builds. Great Job!
LOVE the fish market! But oh man, building the head with a bunch of lapis blocks, deep dark for that rich blue color, and deepslate, with glowing eyes would be pretty epic.
Love the angler building, I think making the eyes glow behind white glass would fit so well
Hearing Etho say he's not good with his mouse just makes my mind jump back to 2012 and him carrying his teams in the Mindcrack UHC games.
Honestly, it's the reason I love HC so much, is that it bridges the minecraft I was watching in middle school, with the minecraft I've enjoyed through college. Beef, Etho, X, Tango, BDubs; the old hands working side by side with new faces like Gem, Pearl, Skizz, Joel, and Stress! Really bridging that sort of generational gap between two very different eras of youtube, minecraft, and the internet at large.

For the smaller powerline, you could use Mumbo's silenced chicken and lead tricks to achieve a smaller cable feel if you like it.
The angler fish needs to be dangling a Mending book to trap the local prey.
This is definitely giving pirate cove build where it's not pirate per say but a pirate's home and is a hodgepodge of different walks of life coming together in a beautiful albeit messy aesthetic of a base.
The angler fish head got the fish head song stuck in my head. It's a lovely build, though!

Seeing that open flooded cavern while you were digging the boat tunnel immediately made me want to make some kind of little dock/village/camp in there
Going with the age of electricity theme, i think some light poles would look really good in around the important buildings of the base. They can also work as gas lamps, so you dont have to connect them to the power grid.
Still can't believe the wither gets caught on leaves in Java Edition...

Loving seeing you branch out of your usually build style and try something new, showing the process of how to do that too.
For the building with the angler fish: if you want it to look more grounded, you could add some stone brick where the logs go into the beach. It could make it feel more supported than just by sand
You should add a line of salt (possibly use glow lichen) around the lighthouse to stop any snails from climbing it
Gem for the powerlines that connect to the houses you can use animals attached to leads, and you attach the leads to a fence on the towers, you put the animals in a box et voilà you have a power line. (I know this would take an absurd amount of animals, but I thought it was worth mentioning)
When I was watching grians video I didn't notice the angler fish on your base (though it was a short amount of time he looked at it) probably because its brown colour matches with the hill behind it I think that because its such a big part of your base it should be immediately noticeable and the only way I can think of doing that would be to make it a fossil of an ancient massive type of angler fish so more gray than brown (you wouldn't have to change the raw iron I think it could fit in with gray blocks) but the rest of the base is brilliant :)
Woah, I love the giant fish head, it looks fantastic! i think my favourite part is the teeth, the shape of the mouth and how it opens to let you see all the pointy teeth looks incredible.

The power lines look so good!!! They really convey a certain brilliance to the area... And then there's your waterway with Etho, and Grian's proposed underwater horse path with a glass ceiling, not to mention the Hermit Postal Service by Pearl & Co... Truly the lines of connection and communication on this season of Hermitcraft are a delight! ^^
