- Here's my submission for this month's Pixel Mixers VGM cover contest. The theme was "One Hit Wonders", so essentially one-off games that weren't part of any franchise. I did some digging and finally found this super catchy track from an arcade racing game I had never heard of before.
Original music: Hiroshi Kawaguchi
Reupload due to a mixing error, sorry about that!
Semi Power Drift fan, fully Vocaloid fan here. I was looking for a metal cover of this because I liked the Vocaloid Kagamine Rin cover and was not disappointed. Well done, this sounds fantastic
Thanks!
One day, I'll get as good as you at this guitar programming thing. Truly incredible work
Thanks and good luck! It's been a long road
This arrangement is so wonderful! !
Thanks!
This vid completely blew my mind.
Tho i wouldn't want to admit, it seems that us guitarists are next on the list. I now feel what drummers felt ,when we replaced them with kontakt libraries lol.
Haha, I'd say we're still way away from fooling a good ear but for certain styles VSTs already work decently. However the more expressive you get the harder it is to replicate with them.
The guitar tone is just perfect. Mighty but without being wet and whashy. I really like it
Thanks!
great job on this one too. guitars sounds great. bravo
Thanks, I'm quite happy with this one
Oh you and your VST wizardry! This arrangement is awesome and extremely well produced too! Fantastic job!
Thanks! It turned out better than I expected
Somewhere out there, the one Power Drift fan is going to see this and be super stoked. :D Super rocking! :D
Haha, I hope so. Glad you liked it!
Love the interplay between the guitar and the Theremin-like synth!
Thanks!
You just get better and better....I love it!
Thanks! I worked particularly hard on this one
This is great! And best game ever!
@@uniauther13 Thanks!
Great work!
Thank you!
Ahh, dude this rocks. Some really sick riffs and lead. That solo was awesome too.
Thanks, the solo was half-transcribed from the original, half my own.
Wow, this mix is incredibly good. I'm very envious hahaha. The arrangement and performance are also excellent! Your lead playing tone is really tasty!
Thanks! No performances here I'm afraid, it was all programmed with mouse haha
@@Tremendouz Wow, I couldn't even tell tbh haha. I might now that I know. Either way, great job!
@@TripleBMusic Thanks, glad you liked :p
Very cool cover Trem.
Thanks!
This is an awesome rock arrangement! I'm always amazed by how much music and vst knowledge you have and it really shows with these covers, they sound so much like a live recording!
Thanks! \m/
DAMN that midi guitar is whaling! sounds awesome!
Thanks!
As usual, in absolute awe how you can make a VST guitar track that sounds more realistic and awesome than most human guitar players :D
Rocked my socks off, super well done!
Aw thanks, I'm trying!
Great riffs! YEAH!!!!
Thanks!
Sounds Excellent!
Thanks Jason, it's all AGVC and AGSC!
@@Tremendouz You Rock!!!!!!!
great work Trem, love the mix here, clear and punchy. And as you know, i love this song. good choice! \m/
Thanks! I'm glad the contest theme made me discover it
Another great Trem rock/metal track! Well done. :D
Thanks dewey!
Hadn't heard of this one before, but I really dig it
Nice cover, Trem!
Thanks!
Only thing I’d say is the drums could be a bit more punchy but other than that, amazing work like usual
Thanks! It's the eternal struggle, trying to make the drums punchy but not too loude either
Are you sure you're not a AAA game composer in disguise? This is such solid work!
Thanks! I am pretty sure haha
nice work bro. Just need one sugestion from u, which vst guitar plugin do you think is the best for metal music?
Thanks! It really depends on the track. Lately I've been using Ample Sound vintage cherry and stratocaster for drop D or E standard tunings but if I want to go lower I like Shreddage 3 Jupiter and Hydra a lot but Ample Metal Eclipse and Hellrazer are great too. I'd say Shreddage has the edge if you want to do lots of fast, repetitive palm muting (power metal etc.) but Ample works great for the kind of riffs you hear in this cover. Also I like Ample for leads a lot.
For metal riffs specifically, if I had to choose just one it'd probably be Shreddage 3 Jupiter even if the sound is bit dark cause I really like its palm mutes and chugs but Hydra is more versatile because of the extended range (8 strings) and the included neck pickup.
@@Tremendouz Thanks a lot
It sounds like a song from an F-Zero game. Awesome.
Thanks! Old racing games had sick music
why do i even bother try to play guitar when fake ones sound this good ahah ?
Excellent job!
Because it's fun? Thanks :D
great job~
Thanks!
Careful there, those leads could a burn a lot more than just tires.
Glad you liked it!
May I know your settings for your rhythm guitar if possible? Trying to learn the ways of chugging!
Check out the lead preset for AGVC that I shared in the description of "Neon Sky", then disable the built-in amp sims and effects and replace them with your favourite amp sim. If you want something quick and dirty, the preset "Full Metal" from Overloud TH-U is a decent starting point that's pretty to my ideal rhythm tone.
If you happen to have AGSC, that's what I used here for the double tracking instead of using the built in doubling. I used similar settings for that guitar too.
Oh, but there's one major difference between the lead preset I mentioned and what I use for rhythm: set the velocity sensitivity to minimum in the settings. That way low velocity palm mutes won't be disproportionately quiet which helps when chugging.
@@Tremendouz Thank you very much!
@@Tremendouz Hey, sorry to bother you again but in "Neon Sky", you used Heavy Rock rhythm 2 preset. I don't see it in my preset list, so where did you get it from?
@@ElectroIl Oh, I made the presets myself for the purpose of the demo song. But you'll most likely get better results with 3rd party amp sims
Pretty epic!
Thanks!
I started listening, closed my eyes and woke up drunk in a kart vehicle, with a freshly cut mohawk. Is that normal, doc ?
Only if you also shrunk in size to fit said kart.
Can I kindly ask what did you use for this? Lile drums, bass, guitars, leads, amps for both rhythm & lead guitars
The lead and the left rhythm guitar are Ample Guitar VC, the right rhythm guitar is Ample Guitar SC.
The bass is Submission Audio Grovebass through Bass Professor mk2.
The drums are GGD Modern & Massive.
I used Overloud TH-U for the amp sims but I used MIKKO Essentials for the cab emulation instead of the built-in cabs.
All synths are FM8.
Btw, just because I use paid amp sims doesn't mean you can't get comparable results with free stuff. Ignite Amps Emissary and Catharsis IRs are a great combo (with any tube screamer slapped in front of them)
@@Tremendouz Ok thanks. I wanted to ask ask the difference between Ample Sound and Shreddage 3 guitars? Are they any good for rhythm and lead guitars? Could you suggest me some as a beginner.
@@sammpaul That's a difficult question to answer, they're both quite different beasts. Ample is my go-to for leads but Shreddage is great for downtuned, chugging rhythms. I've been using Ample more lately because there's somewhat less tweaking needed to make them sound how I want but Shreddage has the potential to sound very natural with more "human" errors
@@Tremendouz Thanks for the answer. I do find Ample more suitable for the lead guitars and shreddage for rhythms
Also, do you have a discord group where it's all about VSTi guitars and stuff
It"s pretty nice, but if I can offer critique, I'd say the synths are too muted. It's especially a shame as the stabs lack all punch.
Thanks! To be honest I didn't pay too much attention to the synths, I mainly wanted to have something "filling the gaps" so to say
which drums did u use?
GGD modern and massive
I'm convinced that you actually played the guitar and you're just pretending that it's midi
Haha now that's a compliment, glad you liked it!
midi/vst is witchcraft to me, guitars are witchcraft, so this is is double witchcraft of a kickin' arrangement!
Thanks! I didn't go to Hogwarts for nothing
