I keep thinking what a lovely gesture it would be for the car to undergo a documented, sympathetic restoration -- down to the finest detail -- and honor Harry's years of dedication and custodianship with a motor tour of Manchester and its environs. I rarely comment on any UA-cam videos, but I felt I had to say something. What an amazing person Harry is. When you sat with him and let him tell you about his baby I had a tear in my eye. A real gem of a guy and what a unique car. Your best barn find to date. I would love to see it back on the road. Here’s hoping ❤️
There's been a couple of videos like this now where you let the owner tell their story and talk about their car and familty. It's a lovely feature and adds a timeless value to the episode and creates a kinda social car history. It's lovely!
Bless Harry, and bless you Jonny for just letting him speak. Really hope that lovely car can be rescued from its current situation and find a suitable new home.
Amazed you didn't put up the batsignal and get TonyBMW involved! He's got the skills and the passion to restore this for sure. Great episode, thanks for sharing Harry!
Watching this brought back memories that had me in stitches. Back in 1986 I bought an "L" reg BMW 2500. Though just the standard 4 door saloon it was a lovely car. About a month after I'd bought it, on a cold winter's morning in Northumberland, it was playing up, and I was going to be late for work - something the Air Force tended to frown upon. A neighbour popped his head into the scene and suggested I take off the air filter and "let it breathe", which I duly did. We cranked it over and a huge flame shot out the top of the top of the carburetor and set fire to the bonnet liner. Essentially, 37 years later, I'm just so happy to hear that I was not the only one. Cheers Harry - you made my day mate! Though I do think it's about time car companies started taking responsibility for the "quirks" of their cars.
He is harry is my uncle I’ve said he needs to sell it for years as it’s just rotting away. Hopefully someone will buy and do a great job of restoring it
Aww I'm so Happy this Video has finally come and sharing Harry's car story. I knew that one day you'd be doing a Barnfind Video on it, and when my wife spied you and the Honda Element on the steet and said said someone was filming nextdoor, I knew it was happening. I'm just gutted that I didn't get home in time and only missed you leaving by probably less than 5mins. And I would like to apologise for my daft Kiwi Wife if she was little overwhelming trying to stall you leaving. She still taunts me with the Selfie she grabbed with you. 😂.
Wonderful barn find video, as always. The thing I love about these are the stories behind them. The cars are always interesting, but the relatable stories more so. Worth the patronage!👏
Another simply brilliant video Jonny. What a legend Harry is. His love of his family, and his cars is so abundantly clear from the interview. How many times have we all said ‘it’s my baby’ when referring to a car? People who aren’t into cars just wouldn’t understand. I’m sure the Late Brake community will find the perfect new home for the E3, one that will do it, and Harry’s passion justice. Also, more Roland Rat please 😂
I'd love it if we could follow the ongoing story of this car. And as others have said, Harry's memories of the car, and passion for it.... just truly wonderful to hear.
Brilliant, Jonny, love the rarity of this car as well as the brilliant backstory and interview with the current owner. It makes compelling viewing. I really hope we see this car back to its former glory.

What a jaw droppingly special car and a super nice owner (with a fantastic taste in jumpers). Harry is absolutely right to insist that the number stays with the car, because as much as there are those who say "it's my car I can do what I want with it" these cars have an identity all of their own and we should respect that. It was galling to see the state it is in but I totally understand how tragic strife in other areas of life can put a stop to these sorts of things. I know there is someone out there who can resurrect this car and do justice to its custodian's passion. Great video Jonny, hope the rat didn't haunt you too much

What a lovely guy Harry is. Knowing what a fantastic place the car community is im sure that car will be back on the road complete with plate in no time.
Sailed with them many a time to France and back when I was a kid. Always thought of them as a slightly posher ferry compared to Brittany Ferries. Happy days!

Thank you Johnny for including the interview with Harry, what great guy. (What was his logic for an estate only for towing though?) The E28 Touring is stunning and the Lynx Eventer just gets better with age especially in the final phase cars.
Sounds like a job for Car SOS! Just want to jump in and lend a hand, poor Jonny. Stupid question….. what IS a Shooting Brake? Just a coach built estate? “Find another!!”
Originally a Shooting brake was a custom built car for carrying country gents' shotguns etc around their private estates for shooting events. That is why they have the long rear storage capacity. Hence the term 'estate car'.
What a humbling episode. Thank you as ever for the story, this time of Harry. As others have said, he gave so much of his time. It ought to be properly repaid if that’s even possible. Somehow, this is what this unicorn deserves. In their overlapping lifetimes obvs. Go well Jonny!
I can't be the only one that feels anxious for leaving this car in a wet garage? I bet if there was a crowd fund to restore this it would have already been fulfilled!
I really hope that you will start doing follow up videos on this channel. There have been SO MANY barn finds where I like to know how they were restored and what they look like now. THIS would be one of those cars ...
It feel like an old man and old car come a such long way as Bilbo Baggins and a Ring, supporting each other by unmeasurable force of passion Long live Harry Taylor and his 25L unicorn p.s. Harry looks exactly like Jacques-Yves Cousteau
Now this is the one I was truly waiting for!!! Brings my childhood back! Ok we didn’t have this touring but dad have a few E3 saloons and a E9 from 1972 to 1978, loved those cars!! Though personally I would have described the E3 as the predecessor to the 7series not so much the 5 series. Certainly on the 3.0s and 3.0si the running gear was the same as the 3.0cs and 3.0csi. Interesting back then when new and nearly new, the saloon was about half the cost as the coupe.
Agreed on the model history. The predecessor to the 5 Series was the Neue Klasse saloon range, which evolved from 1800 to 2000 (and 2000 Tilux with fuel injection).
Oh dear. I understand the passion. But this is a love job, through and through. It needs deep, deep pockets and deep love to restore it. Anything less won't do it. The man who owns it is a treasure. Someone with deep pockets and deep love for the car and the plates needs to take this on. Nothing less will do.
That is a great find. I've seen an Schulz E28 estate, but never an E3 conversion. My first car was an E30 Touring, which I kept for 9 nine years. I have good memories of it. I hope this car gets restored to its former glory.
Much rather see these stories over all the rich folk with plenty cash and multiple motors, cannot beat down to earth people who hold on to 1 or 2 cars for donkeys years, i hope he gets it restored and gets to enjoy it.
Top work Jonny a truly rare find one for Yorkshire car restorations would be an amazing feature hopefully it finds its way to the right owner to restore and cherish it for the next 40 years
Pretty cool to see headlining that lasts several decades longer than new factory ones... Such a neat car. Totally needs a resto along with the garage. Get some money together for a solid offer, get it built ASAP and take the man for a ride.

Stupid question….. what IS a Shooting Brake? Just a coach built estate?
“Find another!!”
Shooting brake is usually 2 door
I'll second that @40spinup, this gentleman deserves to be Sosaged!
Google it mate, I looked it up a bit ago, it gets the name from literally going shooting for game and having space for the guns.
Was just about to say the same about cars sos. Would be ace to see the bloke drive it again
This needs a part two with Tony BMW
this bmw would look amazing restored could listen to old car guys like Harry telling stories all day and you treat him with such respect
What a shame the garage leaks 😔 Where is Tony BMW ? Sad story , great candidate for Car SOS. Would be great for Harry to see it back on the road.
Can of Hope not much good in this instance. ☹
@@peterriggall8409can of lost hope needed
Enjoyed this a lot, would be fantastic to see such a rare thing restored
There's a rat in my E3, what am i gonna do?..
Tame it, cause you love the same things. 😃
@@marcbaur677 a real 'rat rod' ?!
@@Klutch58Customs i like Rat Rods much more than Hot Rods.
Great episode, love the chat with the owner. I hope someone takes it on and does it justice.
It feel like an old man and old car come a such long way as Bilbo Baggins and a Ring, supporting each other by unmeasurable force of passion
Long live Harry Taylor and his 25L unicorn
p.s. Harry looks exactly like Jacques-Yves Cousteau
Fantasic find.. from a time where cars fitted in garages and parking spots!
That's not a barn, that's Harry's garage.
I'd love to see this car restored and for Harry to have a ride in it again. Great video!
Awesome Car, incredible story, wonderful Gentlemen! Thanks! I really hope someone takes on this mission!
Top work as always. I think the car is beyond saving though.
Don't think so but it's hard to tell with it being stuck in the garage.
Certainly not a light restoration job !
There's definitely enough of it there to not make it "beyond saving" but it'd be a huge undertaking, and an expensive one at that.
I am a German Petrol Head !!
I never heard of this Car !!
I Love it !!
Thanks Jonny you did my uncle harry a good service, and if anyone buys it they have to a mascot of a rat in it lol
Nick, many thanks for getting in touch with the channel to let us know of Harry's unicorn.
Oh dear. I understand the passion. But this is a love job, through and through. It needs deep, deep pockets and deep love to restore it. Anything less won't do it. The man who owns it is a treasure. Someone with deep pockets and deep love for the car and the plates needs to take this on. Nothing less will do.
Quote of the year
“creature or spores I don’t want it near my mouth😂”
Good on you for helping these people Johnny.
Another one? 😂
Johnny cant be stopped at this point ☝🏻
Cheers mate! Thanks mate, bye!!
This needs saving.. Oh my life. I'm not a BMW fan but this could be brilliant again. Would be great for Harry to sell and see it restored.
What a machine Yorkshire car restorers need this one :-)
That is a great find. I've seen an Schulz E28 estate, but never an E3 conversion. My first car was an E30 Touring, which I kept for 9 nine years. I have good memories of it. I hope this car gets restored to its former glory.
Much rather see these stories over all the rich folk with plenty cash and multiple motors, cannot beat down to earth people who hold on to 1 or 2 cars for donkeys years, i hope he gets it restored and gets to enjoy it.
My sentiments exactly - less of the "Oh, I've got one in my garage in Monaco" please.
Top work Jonny a truly rare find one for Yorkshire car restorations would be an amazing feature hopefully it finds its way to the right owner to restore and cherish it for the next 40 years
Thank f**k it's not another ford
Pretty cool to see headlining that lasts several decades longer than new factory ones... Such a neat car. Totally needs a resto along with the garage. Get some money together for a solid offer, get it built ASAP and take the man for a ride.
I reckon more interviews like this with people would be mad good
Fantastic episode Johnny, thanks for bringing this car to a big audience. I really hope a new owner can be found through this video.
Jonny, this car needs you and you need this car! What a UA-cam project! Get rid of your other cars (except for your VW of course) and take it on! Supporting you from Australia 🇦🇺. Another great episode mate,
Another fantastic Barnfind episode Jonny, and what a gent the owner is, BMW or Car SOS or Gary Mavers from Classic Obsession really need to restore this BMW for the owner.
Watched this last night and Harry sounded just like my dad (who was born in Manchester) and loved cars all his life. Harry just sitting there, everything just so matter of fact with a car so rare dying in his Marley garage. It needs to be restored nay must be restored you are the man please as soon as you can❤
What a car, absolutely incredible to find such a rarity. But the story and Harry behind it are so much more. I couldn’t agree with the overwhelming sentiment here in the comments, this car needs restoring as soon as possible for him to see drive again
The boot struts still work!!! My e61 boot struts hold the boot up for 20 seconds before it falls down on my head
This was a predecessor to the 7 series actually! Amazing find!
