  • What is the passion of Lust ?
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit; One God, Amen.
What is Lust and what does it do:
Lust = porneia = Original meaning was prostitution (and all that is involved with it) Today’s understanding of lust would be “a sensuous appetite or desire considered as sinful or leading to sin; strong/uncontrollable sexual appetite or desire.” *Disclaimer that sexuality is not in and of itself sinful. We will see this in another video more in detail. Lust therefore is not synonymous with sexuality. Lust is when our sexuality is misused or even abused and misdirected. Rather than being selfless and oriented towards another person and God, this passion becomes selfish and directed only towards the self. Removes the spiritual aspect of love, and degrades it to only being fleshly and makes its only goal the sensual delight. Just like prostitution, it becomes all about the act itself for personal gain. St Gregory of Nyssa says that Lust makes men act like beasts (life of Moses #302) - we basically deny the image of God.
