@@martinfinnpiano yes it certainly is! I haven't seen augmented chords in blues very often. I suppose you could also think of it as a G7#5? I like the Ray Charles style chromatic movements too, they work really nicely in a slow blues

So, I think those by-ear players of old must have some system of playing these things whether in a formal way by naming things like chords and scales precisely or just by pure feel and a great ear. The one thing I do know is that the great players aren’t doing anything by accident. They know what to hit so that it sounds good. There’s no other way!
