The scene when Walker finds out that Conrad was dead before he got there is one of the best cutscenes in any game
for a 2012 game, Walker's and almost every character's face expressions looked more realistic compared to some modern games
I remember playing this game on FUBAR. It was very difficult and part way through i found myself getting very frustrated at the enemies and found myself taking joy in killing them in the worst ways possible just for some ammo. And then it hit me, that's the point. You start feeling the way Walker does, you stop thinking about the mission and just how you can kill all the people opposing you. God this game is so good
Well said.
Guess we are both as sane as Walker now.
"I assure you. I'm as sane as you are, mercenarygundam1487".
Bloody brilliant game.. I love how Walker becomes violent and aggressive in his takedowns as the game continues.
Also, that beard is becoming legendary.
Yeah, great game and so many cool touches to show Walker's mental deterioration.
Thank you. This will be the last video with the beard for a while. It will be back for Witcher 3 and when I get around to God of War Ragnarok. Save it for special occasions :)
One of the platinums I'm most proud of, the Fubar difficulty was punishing but totally worth it. I never miss your videos, keep creating good content Adam.
¡Cheers mate!
Missed one more ending. The ending where you kill all the soldiers and Walker says the iconic line, "Gentlemen, Welcome to Dubai"
Oh, very cool. Thanks for the info, I'll look it up.
He just does not want to get demonetised or spoil the hidden Victor achievement✌️
I also remember watching a long time ago that you could "win" against the soldiers at the end and get a bit of a fun ending as well. Comfy upload as always :)
I would love to watch this but I was planning on playing it soon and don't want any spoilers, heard it's a thoughtful masterpiece.
Yeah, best play it yourself instead.
Amazing game, one of the best cult classics out there!
The attention to detail in this game is just out of this world, there's a stop sign at the very first rappel point, Konrad is in billboards and advertisements on several buildings (hinting Walker hasn't been right in the head from the start), right before the mortar scene, there's a plant in the middle of the stairs you walk through to get to the mortar that changes between alive and withered if you pan the camera back and forth from it, and those are only off the top of my head!
Also something I didn't realize for years until I watched this video: After the mortar scene, the very first change in Walker is that he has a nasty bruise on his forehead!
Great work as usual Adam! Now you made me want to replay the game myself again!
So many great details throughout the game. Didn't know about the plant.
Thanks. Well worth replaying anytime.
You’re missing a secret ending. Walker kills all the extraction team, walks back into the building, essentially becoming Konrad 2.0
Oh, thanks for the info. I'll check it out.
This game has a special place in my heart. I haven't seen a game to depict Ptsd as well as this. Great video Adam!
The best part of this game WAS AND IS IT WAS free LIKE FREEPORN STILL IS FOR YER BRITTS , SO IS IT yes OR no... David Cameron the braV✌️est PionEEr🌐
Dude, your original video was one of the things that hooked me up to your channel back in the day even when I didn’t had a PS and wasn’t a trophy hunter. Despite you losing the audio was a great video.
That is really cool to hear. Thanks for sticking around all these years.
@@AdamMcDermott That just shows the quality of your content, mate! Keep it going!
Thanks for persevering with it. You said final one, but there's definitely value in these short retrospectives, so if they reappear in some other form I'll happily watch them. Some older games are only really kept alive through this sort of content.
No worries. I feel that these videos have been "low effort" and not respecting a person's time.
I have an idea of adding a bit more Platinum Journey-style production to something like "First Time Playing The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time". Give one of these videos a bit more love and care with proper writing, voice-over and music.
@@AdamMcDermott That's understandable, though I would imagine that the effort of having to plat a game makes everything else feel like reduced labour. However I'd argue the drop in work required does not come across in the end product. But yeah the First Time Playing idea sounds cool. Looking forward to it.
I have the game on X360 and never experienced any glitches in any of my playthroughs and I’ve played it numerous times since release through to the present.
Think it has more to do with my console than the game itself.
Lol im playing through it for the first time right now so I’ll come back once I’ve finished it, thank you for your work Adam.
Enjoy Spec Ops!
I feel really bad that I have never played this game but feel even worse that I have never really considered it. Mind is blown here by how great it looks.
That's okay. Can't play every game.
Adam - "Have You Ever Loved Something That Doesn't Love You Back?"
My Wife....
Ah, yes...Spec Ops The Line. One hell of a game this was! And generally a very nice surprise at the time of so many military shooters!
After completing FUBAR you’ll feel on the inside how Walker looks on the outside at the end of the game.
Sorry for being late, loved this. Thanks for making such great content, keep it up! Cheers Adam.
No worries, buddy. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Story wise this is one of the best Third Person Shooters ever. So glad to see you go back to it :)
My PS3 is having issues too. I'm backing up my saves and continuing as usual. I'm not done with it yet. Too many great PS3 games.
I have never heard of this game before and after I finished this video I went out and picked it up. Such a well made video and big thanks for showing us all this game which some of us, like me, would never have seen
You are more than welcome. Enjoy Spec Ops!
I just got this game! Can't wait. Also, I love the beard bro. Looking clean😎
There is, in fact, a 5th ending! If you shoot Konrad and attack the soldiers who come to rescue you, and successfully kill all of them, Walker picks up one of their radios and says "Gentleman, welcome to Dubai."
Very cool. Thanks for the info, I'll look it up.
Isn't that the fourth ending though
Interesting to see you replay this now as I have just played this recently to do a uni essay on it !
Very cool. I know of a few folks who've done papers on Spec Ops. So much to unpack.
Awesome video. It's a pleasure to see your passion about the game. Wish it came to the newer consoles at some point so more people had the chance to experience it.
Yeah, a port would be nice.
If you survive the final shootout walker will pick up the radio and say the opening line "gentleman, welcome to dubai"
Very cool detail. Didn't know that.
Another great video Adam. Never played this game, but I might have to give it a go. Hope I have some better luck with it than yourself though!
Thank you. Haha, can't go any worse than me.
This game is the blood meridian of war games
I love spec ops: the line but I love your beard even more. Looking hella good Adam!
Haha, cheers!
Quite a nice juxtaposition of both yourself and the game character being driven insane by the game
Very true!
Since you mentioned white phosphorus still being used, I thought I'd like to share: White phosphorus is perfectly legal for military use when it comes to creating smoke either for signalling or concealment. Using white phosphorus as a weapon itself is illegal under international law.
Good correction. Thank you.
One of the best shooters ever crafted. The fact that this never got a sequel or a spin-off is Insane. 🤘
I bought this not long ago so will refrain from watching the video until I've had a shot (on your recommendations). It's on a lot of hidden gem lists for that era. Hope you are grand my man.
Yeah, definitely play it for yourself first as I cover a lot of spoilers.
I am indeed well. Hope you are too.
“Beard” McDermott is in the cut for a game that was supposed to have an episode of Platinum Journey.
Pull out the Guinness it’s another McDermott video
Wish this game would get a port. Phenomenal story. Great video as always adam
Yeah, a port would be great.
Cheers!
Love the beard, Kratos 2.0
Thank you very much!
I'm so lucky, I found a physical copy of Spec Ops: The Line at only $5.00 USD last year :)
Just noticed this video. I went through this game for the first time this year. Just a dude going off his nut. And i loved it what a great game. 👍
Yeah, great game indeed.
what a story
The beard look suits you well mate. You look like a chill, friendly version of Kratos.
Thank you. Haha, a chill and friendly version of Kratos is a great description :)
Haven't watched your vids in quite some time - seeing this amazing beard caught me off guard! haha
Haha, the beard is certainly a change. It will be going into hibernation for a while until later this year.
I got this game on sale should I play this? It was dirt cheap but never got around it. Thank you Adam for the content!!
Definitely play it. Short enough game too, only about 6-8 hours.
Let's go, one of my favorite games of all time as well, while the gameplay leaves a bit to be desired, that doesn't detract it from being of the most thought provoking stories in all of gaming.
If there's any game I wish would be remade it would be Spec Ops, it doesn't need a sequel.
Well said, I fully agree.
This game is such an experience. A shame it's removed from digital stores due to licenses ending...
Aiming to 100% it, though FUBAR difficulty is really overwhelming.
Yeah, real shame it was removed from stores. Best of luck with FUBAR, your teammates suck on that difficulty.
Well what I did on my day off was complete zombi and getting the hardest achievement ever called unstoppable what has a 0.09 percent
I never played this game and sadly I don't think I will have a chance to play it, so thanks for the experience
You are more than welcome.
Jesus Christ that bears is class bro ❤️
Such a fantastic game :D
This game was awesome, u know what else is awesome? THAT BEARD!!! looking good my brother, don't shave it let it grow. Matter fact I challenge you not to shave it until you get another call of duty platinum lol😂
Haha, thank you. Unfortunately, the beard has already been shaved but will be back for special occasions like God of War Ragnarok.
i've had that exact same freezing issue since back in 2021 except it happened later on into the game and i've still never been able to fix it despite trying everything
Good to know I'm not alone. Couldn't find anything about it online.
Honestly this game just is sadly really buggy on my ps3 sometimes the texters never load in so sometimes im forced too play with ps2 graphics for a whole section of a level.
Such a great game
Awesome video as always Adam I recently earned the platinum in God of war 3 remastered and I am working on my next platinum trophy on bendy and the ink machine keep up the legendary content as always cheers
Thank you. Best of luck with Bendy and the Ink Machine!
@@AdamMcDermott I'm also almost at the platinum in God of war 2018 it's a phenomenal game
Wait you did a plat journey of this game? How did I miss that? I also love this game
I recorded an episode but had the gameplay was muted the whole time. Scrapped the episode and didn't make videos for a while.
I got over it in this video - here is the exact timestamp: ua-cam.com/video/MXAsE7xxIuk/v-deo.html
I think there is another ending for killing all the soldiers at the end
You are correct. I missed that.
Great Video
Thank you
I remember picking this one up on the 360 and expecting a generic third-person shooter. Oh boy, was I surprised
Nice video Adam and u doing re4 remake now
Thanks. I'm doing RE4 later in the year, Sekiro now and then Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
@@AdamMcDermott nice can’t wait for them videos there going to be awesome
One those simply just play Play Spec ops the line and best birthday present I got
I like this game I got all achievements on the Xbox the hardest difficulty is a real pain tho 😅
So what is the true ending? I've played it and watched so many videos on it walkthroughs, analyses, and interpretations and I still struggle with what's real and what's in his mind. Very deep. The possible endings still got me fubar.
I don't think there is a one "true" ending. You pick any of them and it makes sense to me.
Game was a lot more efficient in telling the same story as heart of darkness. (Read that as I enjoyed the game and the book was an absolute slog)
Personally, quite liked the book but it can be dense at times.
3rd and final? Why is that? I love these videos.
These videos are "low effort" and I don't feel proud of them. Disposable. I'm asking someone to spend 18 minutes of their time with me, but I'm not giving them my best.
@@AdamMcDermott you’re selling yourself short, my friend. These videos are terrific, whatever you make, people will watch! Cheers.
There is definitely and ending if you survive killing the soldiers. Overall great video though
Yep, other folks have let me know too. I'll check it out. Thanks!
I fucking love this game.❤
Just want to say, the beard looks really good on you.
Thank you very much.
Adam slowly turning into Kratos
Boy!
This video is how I found out that PS4 has no backwards compatibility for ps3 games
I'm sorry to break the news to you.
Love the beard. Looking kinda kratos
Cheers...Boy!
Love that game and played it soo much. The best german Anti war Videogame.
You look badass with the beard
Thank you very much.
Max Payne!
Surprised you haven't got to GOW Ragnarok yet. I haven't seen your videos in awhile. But I will be watching that Platinum for Ragnarok, Dead Space remake if you decide to do it, and the RE4 remake. That's stellar stuff. Be interesting to hear what you have to say about RE4 remake and how it compares to the original RE4. I have maybe some things to say that warrant a discussion. This might interest you and maybe you can tell me what you think and if I'm right or wrong or somewhere in between.
Back in 2005 when the original RE4 did come out, The Sub-Genre Survival Horror started to die out. What I essentially mean is the RE games from the 90s had a arrive at a location or mansion grounds, explore every nook and cranny, solve a bunch of puzzles and resource and item management. After RE4 came out, It standardized Third person action for the series going forward. Meaning it ditched or did away with the fixed camera and Tank Controls. Me and you have a game like Dead Space and it's remake. That prioritized horror unlike RE4 did. There's always been this Misconception that RE4 is Survival Horror, yet it lacks the core tenets like Resource management, Puzzle exploration, and Tank Controls. It has more of a focus on Combat. So I guess my biggest question is can RE4 be considered a Survival Horror game? I want your opinion on this. Please tell me what you think. Good video. Keep up the good work.
I rarely play games straight after release. Dead Space remake will be getting an episode at some point too.
I do think RE4 is survival horror. Ammo is low, enemies are fierce, you often barely survive. As for horror, the entire section with the regenerating enemy in the Island is one of the most terrifying sections in gaming.
@@AdamMcDermott Yeah. The regenerators are pretty creepy.
You didn't do the last ending where Walker kills his rescuers? You did the one when he tried and failed, but there is actually an ending where he does. Mostly just FYI in case you were not aware.
I think the game is well made, but the tone of "We'll take your money, then try to blame you for the story we crafted because you didn't put down the game" is what leaves a sour taste for me.
Ah, didn't know that was an option. I'll look up that ending. Thanks.
That's a fair take. I view the game as blaming Walker the character and not the player. Ending it too good for the player not to see it.
Don't feel like that. Of course they want you to play the game but also they want you to think, that's the whole point. Think. Not something your typical shooter videogame does.
@@Ireee702 I suppose that depends on if the player has issues between fiction and reality, pixels and people.
I find it has heavy tones of soapbox sermons from the devs. After they've pocketed your money.
But to each their own.
Get shadow of modor plat
Plz?
Afraid not, the game doesn't interest me.
@@AdamMcDermott At least give it a try
Plz?
@@jannatahmed1374 I did, played it for a while on PC. Didn't interest me, unfortunately.
Spec Ops The Line isn't so much a response to COD etc, its a sequel/reboot to an old ps1 series that had very similar gameplay
Thanks for the info.
It's both
This game turned Adam into a literal neckbeard.
Haha, I am one with the medium.
my bet is your hard drive is getting old in the ps3
That would make sense, it has been around ages.
I would like to remind the comment section captain Walker promotes himSelf to Colonel in the Epiloge❤️🩹
Good point. I missed that.
