I live in the US and I'm not really sure what would be good for a beginner but my sister is just starting to get into manga and she has really been enjoying silver spoon! And I think some of my first manga was actually 07 ghost and Ouran Highschool Host club.
Hope that can help someone and
    Happy holidays everyone!

I highly recommend you and everyone else checking out the Pandora Hearts box set. Easily the most beautiful box set I’ve seen, and it was recently very expensive because it was out of stock but Yen Press recently restocked it so I recommend getting it while it’s there. Pandora Hearts is a series by Jun Mochizuki, who is currently writing the Case Study of Vanitas, another great series I recommend. Beautiful art and amazing story telling with a very satisfying aesthetic.

This was such a great guide! And Joanne's recommendations were so useful! I'd definitely recommend the boxset of A Silent Voice for a substantial manga gift, but have also found Witch Hat Atelier to be a good one to introduce non-manga readers to manga - especially if they're Studio Ghibli fans. The Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind boxset is also a really great gift recommendation!

Hi Boogie! Been watching your videos for a while but first time commenting I think? I'm not so much the type of person to comment lol. Thank you for another great video, and I hope you have a great christmas this year!!
For the manga I'd recommend a beginner... someone else already said Akira and I would agree with them, as I started the same way lol. I had a few volumes of other series already but just cause I happened to buy them sporadically for no real reason other than I liked their anime adaptation. But Akira was the first one I started and finished cause I loved the movie so much and the manga is ten times better! To Your Eternity would be another one I'd recommend I think, since it's so easy to get hooked and the art is beautiful!
I'm from Mexico and our catalog is pretty much the same as the US, just missing a bunch of titles here and there (mostly the ones that are not as popular) but nothing that would get us too upset about... only vinland saga 😭 the license was taken over a company from spain who's importing it into Mexico and it's dumb expensive. ONE volume is almost as expensive as a 2 in 1 US edition, which is so frustrating, since manga here is always cheaper than the US version, and for once, it's much cheaper to go for the US version lol. We're sadly probably gonna get the same situation with Kaijuu no. 8 so a lot of us are gonna buy the US edition instead, so there's that lol.
Also, we kind of suffered a few years waiting for Haikyuu since the license was acquired by a company that not too long after went bankrupt LOL and they couldn't even start publishing it, but a few months back we got the news it'll be finally published by a different company in a 3 in 1 so yay! Sorry for the long rant, it's just funny how we're neighbor countries and our situation with manga is rather different in a lot of aspects, but I'm always grateful we're so close since I can always turn to Viz Media and whatnot when things go south here lol.

Another awesome video with a lot of good recommendations. I feel like I should get into some cozier stuff and hearing both you and Joanne talk about Laid-Back Camp made me add it to my cart!
Weirdly enough, I haven't been buying much manga this holiday season (although my pre-orders have been coming in). Bought way more than I expected to in October/November so I'm quite backlogged... But if a good boxing day sale happens to pop up I might indulge 😁
Also if I had to buy manga for someone who is totally new to manga I would probably try to buy them either single volume editions or a series of 4 volumes or less to wet their feet.
    Titles such as:
    Tekkon kinkreet
    Uzumaki/Gyo
    Planetes
    Livingstone
    Haru's Curse
    Paradise Kiss
    Our Dreams at Dusk
Rohan at the Louvre (even non-Jojo fans can enjoy this)
    Ping Pong

I would love to add To Your Eternity to this list. With most of it in stock on popular manga shopping websites like RightStufAnime I think it would make a fantastic gift to someone who hasn't yet experienced the story. By the same mangaka of A Silent Voice, To Your Eternity follows a young boy and his adventure meeting new people along the way and surviving harsh external conflicts and emotionally charged situations. To Your Eternity is classified as a Shonen but don't be fooled it has large drama undertones and supernatural elements that makes its story unlike anything I've read before. Without giving away potential spoilers, The plot is very heavy and impactful and covers dark themes they may not be pleasant for a very young audience so I would recommend 16+ for the reader. This is definitely a stop and think manga with a tremendous amount of character development that will 100% hook the reader. I hope this helps!

Im from the philippines and the manga that i would recommend for a beginner are death note, tokyo ghoul and one punch man. Death note because it would be pretty interesting for them, it would make them curios every chapter and resulting to them getting hooked into it. Tokyo ghoul since the plot is unlike any other mangas ive read and the art is top notch. One punch man because it would be enjoyable for a beginner with all that impressive art style, lots of action, and has a lot of comedy and one punch man was one of my first anime too so the manga would be pretty good for a beginner.

Once a friends came to my house and, while seeing my (little) collection, I recommended them The Gods Lie. They read it and loved it! It was their first time reading a manga, and well, they never stopped from there xD
The thing is, a think a good choice for recommend something is always a one tome only manga. There are so many good mangas out there! I mean for someone who likes these topics (anime, manga, etc) but is not that into it to buy things.
That said, I haven't really read that many mangas and my collection is pretty small, mainly because of the price, so it is hard for me to recommend something. I'm from Chile, and if collecting manga is expensive, collecting them in Latin America is way worst lol. I actually buy mostly imported manga because it is cheaper to buy thing in English than Spanish, and using the benefit of Bookdepository's free shipping is a good way to save some money. Man, wish RightStuf had free shipping too :c

I live in the US and manga series that I’ve found easier to find would be Demon Slayer, JJK, MHA, Silent Voice, Berserk, Vinland, and JoJo.
As for easiest series to get into for manga beginners I think manga beginners will already have some experience with anime, and might even want to read the manga of their favorite show to catch up/get through it with less filler. So, One Piece, Dragon Ball, Chainsaw Man, and One Punch Man would be some good first manga.

If you're not sure what a person's taste in manga might be, you can't go wrong with the 4-koma comedy/gag comedy mangas! Literally nobody hates Yotsuba!& - if they do... you should probably rethink that friendship, cus chances are they're a psychopath /j and dont' forget, even in 2021, gift receipts are still a thing, so if it's one they REALLY don't want, or they already have, they can always exchange it for something else.

I don't think people should start with really old series like Akira, Mobile suit gundam. Or really long series like One Piece or Jojo's. Since they haven't got the love towards them yet, unique art style and long length will be a turn off. *Unless* they're used to reading comics already. Otherwise it should be easy on the wallet and the art easy on the eyes. Like SPY X FAMILY, Death Note, Astra lost in space.
